I own a nu ordr song book with songs from 1981 to 1989

the songs are

Already got a copy, anyway - great story about 1963 and the proposed relationship between JFK and Marilyn Monroe! :)

I had a copy but I lost it? I remember that some of the printed lyrics were wrong (what a gaff!). IE from Temptation "Tonight I'll walk alone, I'll find myself a silent home".

It's shite, to be honest. The lyrics are frequently wrong, the music is frequently wrong - all you get on the score (and the tabs above the score) is the synth melody line. The only worthwhile bits are the comments from the band in between pages, but they are few and far between.

If anyone still wants a copy and wants to make me an offer, please do!

Also got the Republic songbook, that is equally inaccurate on the music front, and is also available to a good home for a small fee.

I wonder if New Order actually wrote down what they played on their songs. I dont know if they can read and write sheet music or if they jotted down the chords and tabs. My guess is they played everything by ear and wouldnt know a diminished minor D seventh chord if it hit them at 60MPH!

It would also explain why this music book is so inaccurate.

Hooky definately and quite proudly can't read music, he's against being taught cos it influences the pupil with the teachers style.

I think Gill got round to having some lessons in the early 90's so might be able to read music, but as for barney and steve, don't know but shouldn't think so, but reading music and knowing chords are different things and it doesn't make you any less of a musician

I remember an Electronic interview at the heighth of Raise The Pressure when Barney and Johnny were asked if they could read music and they answered "Can we fuck!" exploding into laughter and explaining they always composed and played by ear, going on with the recordings as references. That sounded so weird to me, especially after that album which is still one of the richest, musically speaking... there's so much going on... Actually songs like Blue Monday would have never been written if they really knew music, as the B note would go flat when following the rules of music. Thank God Gillian couldn't play black keys back then and that special music was the result.

Interesting points there. I think if someone was to study all New Order songs they would see that about half of them are just C and F chords with a few variations.
