In a Lonely Place

I found a 4:35 version of In A Lonely Place on Audiogalaxy yesterday. It's exactly the length of the 7" version as mentioned in http://www.niagara.edu/neworder/. It starts with someone (Hooky?) saying something like "this is the ??? session", then you can hear applause, then the song starts. The music is basically the same as that of the 12" version (= Substance version), but the mix is different and the voices are very different (Barney and Hooky singing together?). I must say that, despite the applause at the beginning, it doesn't seem to be a live version. The quality of the sound is definitely that of an official (or at least sound board) recording.

So, my question is: did I indeed pick the real 7" version of In A lonely Place, or is it something else?

Sounds like I need to have a listen to this myself when I get home. Are there any unusual lyrics or comments to Steve about speeding up ?

I don't think so but I only listened to it once, and not too loud cos my wife was asleep :sleep2:.

I know what you're referring to there Slop, but there was no audience for the Rock Around The Clock performance. I must admit I can't think of anything that fits the description right now.

I've just listened to it again. I can't determine whose voice talks at the benning: Hooky or maybe Ian Curtis, which would mean that it is in fact a Joy Division recording.

Can anybody help me and tell me if there is a spoken introduction to the 7" version of In A Lonely Place by New Order?

Ben - what's the exact wording of the listing on Audiogalaxy ? I'm there now ready to download whichever track it is.

1. search for "new order in a lonely place"
2. choose the first one in the search results list, i.e. artist = "new order", top matching song = "in a lonely place"
3. choose "download exact version". There, you should find many 6 min. long versions (= 12" or substance version), and only one 4:35 version. That's the one I'm talking about. There's also a 4:31 version, but it seems to be always off-line.

OK, I'll have a look this evening. I did find a very good live version last night that includes part of "Sputnik" - will post the URL when I get home.

Typical - when I get there and follow all the instructions as above, the sod with the 4.35 version isn't online.

Follow this URL for an excellent version recorded on the Australia 87 tour. Well worth it !

Guisepie Signori, I've got it I'll run my Audiogalxay sattelite now, try again.

Pretty sure it's Hooky's voice at the start. He says, "This is the brass section, if The Jam can do it, I'm sure we can. Oh and it's New Order as Barney is singing.

Aha !! :) I know which version it is now !! It's taken live from Tolworth 12 March 1983 mixing desk recording. Very good gig too.

I presume that was you who just downloaded my version as I've now turned of the satelite.

No it wasn't - I can't get a connection. Don't worry about it - I've got it on tape now I've identified which gig it was. Cheers anyway.

At last I can answer.....No, you picked a live version recorded at Tolworth Recreation Centre on 12th March 1983. Hooky says "This is our brass section. If the Jam can do it, I'm sure we can" :)
