‘WAITING FOR THE SIRENS’ CALL’THE NEW SINGLE RELEASED 26th SEPTEMBER THROUGH LONDON RECORDS

“’Waiting For The Sirens’ Call’ is perfection itself” – Guardian

“A superb example of the surging, bittersweet grace of classic New Order” – Uncut

“It’s my favourite track. The backing track’s brilliant, Hooky’s bass is fantastic on it. It made me crap it a bit, because I thought, If I don’t get the vocals right, I’m going to destroy a classic song” – Bernard Sumner

Following the success of the top 10 single, ‘Krafty’ and ‘Jetstream’, the superb collaboration with the Scissor Sisters’ Ana Matronix, New Order return with the sublime title track from their eight studio album. ‘Waiting For The Sirens’ Call’ was produced by the New Order themselves and the band consider it to be one of the best tracks they’ve ever made.

Waiting for the Sirens Call will be released on three separate 7”s only, remixed and back upped with exclusive tracks, a slipcase for all three discs will be available. Formats are as follows:

Disc 1: Waiting for the Sirens Call Rich Costley Radio Edit Temptation Secret Machines Remix

Disc 2: Waiting for the Sirens Call Band Mix Everything’s Gone Green Cicada Remix

Disc 3: Waiting for the Sirens Call Jacknife Lee Remix Bizarre Love Triangle Richard x Remix

I'm still asking for the CD and DVD singles... don't worry.

Let's hope the radio stations pay it some attention.

Hopefully all formats will be released on the same day; otherwise there's going to be a lot of confusion (par for the course?).

Let's just hope it's not true.

Otherwise I'll be pissed.

I asked about the CD/DVD single and the reply was "didn't I just send you this?"... so I replied that it was only about the 3x7"...

I hope it's the b-sides that will be only on the 7"... the name of the file was New Order - Waiting for The Sirens Call single B sides PR.doc...

Can someone over there get a fucking clue??

Anybody also noticed that they postponed it again?

It's pushed another week later... coming out just the week before Item now.

I got the confirmation.

Ah you see the twist is the only format ...Siren's Call is being released on is on 7"

Now I must say I'm pissed... let the hunt for promo CDs begin.. (or the hunt to put pressure on Warner USA to release it!)

The stupidity of record companies is truly breathtaking.

Now you have something exclusive on CD on "Sigles" for real....

This just doesn't make sense.

Perhaps the real explanation is simply a desire to focus all attention on the DVD and the singles compilation without formally cancelling the WFTSC single.

My two cents on the matter:

After "Jetstream" being such a "hit", my guess is that Warner wasn't so keen on a 3rd single release. But the band (Barney, that is...) wanted it badly, so a compromise was found. The 7" only release is obviously marketed for the collectors, ie us, not for the general audience!

Well, let's home there will be some promo CDs, because there is no way I'm finding back the turntable I bought in the late 90's used just to be able to rip my record collection into mp3.

Your theory would be fine if they didn't shoot a video for it though, and released the promo single... but has anyone heard it on the radio yet???

Ok, continuing my correspondance with the person who sent me the press release...

The record company actually feel that by releasing the single in this format they'll be giving something back (?!) to the fans, as they're providing something that's really collectible and special.

I have left out the rest of the email, I think it was meant to remain private, but I'd agree with one thing she said.. they might have overlooked the fact that many people won't even be able to listen to it.

who gives a fuck? do you really want another bland cd single that will just lie there after you have listened to it once? im glad they are doing this,at least its a bit different and should look rather nice and dare i say it, isnt it a little bit factory?

The one track radio edit promo has been around for a while, but yes, it'll be interesting to see if they collect the mixes together on one or two promo CD's like they did with Krafty and Jetstream.

Maybe for you, but I just can't wait to listen to Richard X's remix of BLT... and seeing it will only be available on an analog format makes me sick.

I think you could be right. Maybe someone wasn't too keen to get 'WFTSC' released, preferring to get 'Turn' out before Xmas to publicize 'Item' and 'The Singles' for the Xmas market - then they realized that if 'WFTSC' didn't come out as a single, that would muck up the tracklisting for 'The Singles'!

Very odd.

so maybe "Turn"/"Guilt" is th real third single?

and this 3 X 7" only single is just for fun...?

what's wrong with this? sounds like fun for collectors to me... maybe WFTSC didnt have much of a chance of club play anyway... this actually makes some sense, and the 3 x 7 inches is a cool idea (of course i'll still want the mp3s for digital play, maybe they could sell them for the iPod)

I bought one last year. OK, it's cheap as chips (about US$75), but it has a built in preamp and will connect directly to your computer. I think they are made in Canada and they sell them all around the world. Will try and find out the name. I only bought it cause my old stero shit itself and I couldn't live with not being able to play my old vinyl.

I remember a post on the Ladytron board by someone asking what was needed in order to listen to vinyl.

The "for the fans" angle is a nice touch, but it just seems such a shame to waste it on a song which is one of New Order's strongest. It won't get played on the radio and won't trouble the charts which is a pity because it deserves to be heard by a wider audience.

They should have chosen I Told You So. We can all have fun buying the set - and then the fact that most people can't play it won't really matter...

Neither do I although I used to. All my vinyl is stuck in the loft now and to be honest I'm thinking about getting rid. This scenario has a touch of SLY about it.

I for one love the idea it's coming out on 7". Yes I do love my vinyl but don't you guys think DVD singles are complete arse? Just hope this comes out in Oz but I'd be highly doubtful.

Those wanting to get the free wallet, you can register here but I'm sorry to say this is a UK offer only. I'll try to get a few for our website and to give them away (for the price of shipping) for non UK members, since UK members can have it free.

Mp3 from 7" will never be as good as the sound from CD or Mp3 from CD. from now on, my default page on IE6 will be randomly ebay and eil.

Nice.

I think Warner's are being a bit cunning; they're hoping to get a decent sized mailing list from the details on the link, not that I mind, just so long as it's NO only info. that they send us.

I think it's the whole point.. build a mailing list, so they will be able to announce Item, Singles & the new album.

Offer ends on September 19th, so hurry up people.

Forgot to add... this will be gold on EBay in a few years if it's only available to people in the UK, order it, otherwise you'll get screwed if you never do it.

Remember the Electronic UTEOT single, the Hacienda Flexi, etc... freebies now worthing a lot.

I wonder if it will be announced somewhere else than here? I guess on the single itself.. :confused2: but since the offer is until Sept 19th, I wonder...

Well i think its a canny idea - just hope its on 'fun' coloured vinyl, makes me feel 'young' again, and hopefully some spotty teenagers will buy it & send it into top ten. Mind theres some right 'tits' work for record companies nowadays - why don't they just get 'normal' people to decide whats what. It's getting as much a fiasco as that Babyshambles smack head group :nono:

Well, it's a UK only release so far...

Sure, Katrina was quite powerful in Nouvelle Orléans, but I must say, she was quite something even here and much weaker.. my desk was full of water in my house, the winds managed to tear the plastic that patches the whole where my air conditionning is... that's a first in 5 years!!

What's this about releasing three 7" singles? Does that mean no CD release? Seems a very strange piece of marketing to me. I'm all for a bit of nostalgic presentation, but how many people these days still uses a record player...

Could it be the band wanted to release it as a single but the record company didn't, so they're doing some half-hearted thing to placate NO?

I know absolutely nothing about the record biz, so forgive me if this is really ignorant.....

so this is the famous sleeve that was supposed to be the album one, right? the tsunami persuaded them not to release it (and finally seeing this pic makes me wonder why) and right now tragedies including water are all over the world. so maybe they´ll change again? guess not

I think it's WRONG if Warner Bros. does not release WFTSC in the US as a CD Single with all the remixes. I will be so angry if I have to track down a fu**ing slipcase on Ebay for 58 quid with the exchange rate the way it is.

And although I am in the minority here, why is 'Turn' so damn great. The breakout track on this album is 'Guilt Is Such A Useless Emotion' - I heard there was gonna be a remix of it, when's THAT one coming out?

Also, can someone PLEASE answer this for me: IS that 'Tribute Mix' of WFTSC ever coming out officially or will I have to try to get one on Ebay for a 100 dollars (like who the hell has all this money anyway?)

Thanks, great forum here. Best band in the world.

I would've thought so, yes. Got hold of a few more rare vinyl bits 'n' bobs in the last year or two that I've yet to digitize and master on to CD. Will be doing a batch later in the year - including these mixes if they don't come out on some sort of CD promo.

Surely they'll be out on one of the download platforms too??

Yep. As long as there's no more than three formats, it's allowed. Doesn't matter what three. If it's only out on 7"s, that should lower its sales though, for the reasons stated on this forum. I reckon there will be downloads available on iTunes, etc., and they now count towards placings in the UK singles chart too.

Can't see this denting the charts though - another Run 2, methinks.

It will bomb in the chart exactly for that.. even with digital downloads, people outside Europe can't buy it because iTunes doesn't accept north american credit cards when you try to create an account.

But I'm sure they are reading us and see our reaction... maybe they think that the 3rd single is for the fan base only, the fan base WILL buy it and that makes sure it's 3 copies each one, hence help it to chart, and they will release the CD later and try to chart with the CD as well.. who knows!

I'm puzzled now!

message for the record company: YOU SUCK! (just in case no other person has said it in this thread yet, and just in case the F-ing record company is reading this)

Phenomenal New Order song that has all of us New Order lovers and 'every-version' purchasers sitting on the edge of our seats waiting for remixes, and they imply it will be limited to 7" vinyl?

for christ's sake, we endured 900 versions of Jetstream, and we even purchased them, just waiting for this moment, and most of us wont be able to PLAY it?

If this holds forth, if the remixes are not made available on cd to me here in the states, I will be finished with this band until they change labels....and Ive been with this band heart and soul since 1983. Screw it. whatever thier agenda is, it will be without me.

Disappointed - once more! Great, great, fookin great artwork... more than just sexy, it's really... beautiful, you know? As only true beautiful art can be. I've always found pictures like these more appealing than the usual erotica images you get in the media of pseudo-sophisticated women... But we live in Bush-era now, and images like this are not tolerated. This would get the Salvation Army burning copies in the street to save the children from the corruption inspired by such an "obscene" picture. What a stupid world we live in. Add the fact Jetstream hasn't sold well, and the WFTSC would have sold less. Obviously Warners have run away from the idea of releasing it on mass market, and just made a release "for fans only"... Well, fuck off. Nic make them change their minds. I do want a CD single. I'd buy a 7" copy for the artwork, probably the most beautiful since Technique. But can I buy one copy only or is it only available as a single order of all the three versions for UK residents only? Anyway what happened to the planned CD and DVD singles? We're back to the days of Electronic's Until The End Of Time indeed... And is it Turn to be really released as a single?

I am not concerned about the vinyl format or the free sleeve. The #1 concern is, how can I get these singles in the US. Where will they be sold? Can they be ordered somewhere? I do not want to miss out on this release. Please keep us informed as to how these singles can be purchased.

Try sirendisc.com. I should warn you that at least in the case of CDs, their shipping packages are not very good at protecting the contents.

You could always order them from Amazon UK. I assume they would have them. Or eil.

Whats wrong with 7" singles, loads of bands are releasing them now

Nothing wrong with 7" singles. I love 'em. My complaint is there is no CD release for these exclusive mixes to be included on. Wait! Maybe a limited edition, bonus disc version of WFTSC is in the works? Blah!

What's wrong?

They have been extincted 20 years ago !!!

Replaced by cassette singles, and then CD single, and even the CD single is completly dead in North America in our days.

To be completly honest, *I* won't pay for this, so they just found a good reason for me to get illegal copies of the files.

I want a CD release and I want it now :D

I'm not even sure I have an amplifier able to plug a turn table in anymore... I do have one who is stored since 8 years "just in case", but there is no way I'm going to install this.

I'm with the other guy that says that he's not even using his CD anymore.. I don't either, I automatically rip the files on my Computer and put them on my iPod or backup CDrs I can use in the car...

Let's face it, it all comes down to this:

Nothing against vynil, nothing against releasing a 7" single "for the fans"...

but why oh why make it the only available format?

Glad for myself that it's being released on the 7" set (if I can find a copy that is), but it is a bit hard to believe that those remixes will not be available anywhere else, especially for the die-hard fans that don't have a turntable.

I sort of like the idea in theory ... I dont really know. I dont listen to CDs that much and I dont know how to work a record player... born in the CD age. It will be a collectors item I suppose and I like the for the fans approach, and the artwork.

But Spotnick, any word from the record company if this single, Item, Singles or any of this new stuff will get a release in Australia?

Um, I don't have a record player, and I know no one with a record player. This is 2005, not 1965. Even jukeboxes are digital now. What is the point of 7" vinyl in this day and age?

Oh well, either these files will show up in iTunes USA like Krafty and Jetstream did, or it just prompts me to "find" the files in some other manner.

What else do they expect everyone to do really? Go buy a record player? The only turntables I can even find are for DJs. Oh ok, I'll buy some hoity-toity Technics to play a couple 7"s that I will just immediately rip to my computer so I can listen to them on my iPod (the only place I listen to music).

Retards. I guess I'll spend my money on DM's Precious single in iTunes instead.

A CD will be issued a week later with

01 WFTSC (Video Mix) 02 WFTSC (Daniel Miller Edit) 03 WFTSC (Arthur Baker Dub) 04 BLUE MONDAY (Radio Station Only 1983 Edit 7") 05 1963 (Instrumental)

This is inside info from LONDON RECORDS.

The 7" x 3 singles will be released as previously stated and there will be NO cd for those versions. Yes. Strange!?!? - But true.

I like this idea. i AGREE with the other guy that said this is a totally New Order move: release the best song on the album in a virtually obsolete format. Since it's not intended for the mass market, they can do something with the cover that they wouldn't normally be allowed to do: ie. put a nude girl on the cover.

It's interesting and special if you actually get your hands on it, versus another cd single filled with mediocre remixes that you'll never listen to. Remixes don't really do anything for me anymore. I would rather New Order released any aborted, half-baked jam session on singles rather then yet another remix.

If you don't have a record player you'll still be able to hear these tracks. I'd be very surprised if they don't show up as a digital download on iTunes or at least on some future release.

It's definitively THE great idea of the year. WFTSC is the only best track of this album. And they decide to make a piece of art with these 3 collectors. Great... Even if you don't have a good turntable, buy these and put them under a beautifful glas to hang them in your living room... Top of the top!

Note: from now, there will be peoples who have these and peoples who dont... The hunting begins...

Obviously DJ's use vinyl, but non-DJ's?

If you know non-DJ's who even OWN a record player (never mind use them EXCLUSIVELY), then you run in vastly different circles than I.

I think I have met one person in my entire life who was a vinyl snob... and he was a social retard who only listened to rockabilly and who wore his hair in a pompadour. Affected tool.

But hey, if that's the type to whom New Order want to market, then by all means. I'll just wait until they are released digitally.

this is what i've been thinking, no online shops have updated anything.

I was a little bored inbetween shifts from work yesterday and was on HMV website and it claimed Waiting for the sirens call had been released over here yesterday so i placed my order and today it's on 'special order from our suppliers' so guess i won't be getting that then.

Nope, only the jukebox records needed an adapter - same small holes for 7"'s as 12"'s! :)

The 7" single, btw, seems to be having quite a resurgence here in the UK... Also, it's quite appropriate for a compilation album called 'Singles' to have 7" singles preceding it :shades:

12" are much better for play than a 7 inch because the groove spacing is different on a 12".

OK. Wait and see. The Remixes of WFTSC were made at Sarm West Studios in London, with Arthur Baker present and with Daniel Miller present. Post production was by Trevor Horn. For more info you may like to call SARM at 8-10 Basing Street, London or call 0207 229 1229 www.sarmstudios.com LONDON RECORDS have already sent out CD promos of the remixes i mentioned and Radio 1 have played the Arthur Baker Dub on one of the dance shows at weekend. The BLUE MONDAY track is the first time on CD - originally made as a 7" for US radio stations promo only - due to the length of the 12" I assure you my information is correct. There is also another NO album due in 2006.

If true (don't really have a reason to doubt it, you do work at Sarm West since your email is sarm.co.uk)

What seems fishy is the track listing... I can't see a reason why New Order would suddenly release the Blue Monday 7" (well, it should be on Singles, isn't it?) and not include the other mixes that should be on the 7"...

If so, I'm puzzled.. the problem is the project manager at Warner/London said to me their would MAYBE be a CD, they haven't decided yet... so I don't know who to believe.

BTW, it's at your studio that Razormaid did the Sarm West mix of Subculture? :confused2:

Now you're really stirring up a hornets' nest.

The existence - or otherwise - of such a radio edit 7" has had many wise men scratching their asses for decades. I don't suppose you can provide any further release info about this? If it's in any way true, surely it suggests that some of the London suits have been casting a lazy eye over NOOL? We were only debating it again recently.

Unless of course it's actually the Japanese or Polish 7" promo edit.

Two things that are pissing me off:

  1. 7" ONLY. DUMB DUMB DUMB move. I've waited this long for a decent remix of EGG and if it's any good it's 7" only!?!?!??! The LOWEST sound quality available. WTF! Should have made a new version and remixed THAT several years ago first of all--right after Here To Stay. At least they're playing it live again. With a singles comp coming and a remix comp...WHY are these tracks not used to promote those instead?

  2. The singles comp is FLAWED of course. Someone Like You is a single (and a very good one I may add), and up until now Turn is not (and shouldn't be--I'd rather I Told You So, the mixes would be so great)! CAN ANYONE OVER THERE MAKE A SERIOUS NEW ORDER COMPILATION!?!?!?!??!?!? We've got at least 4 and they all have problems of one sort or another--from mis-titled songs to poor selection to not transfering vinyl only mixes we all want to digital! I'll be happy to finally have the original Ceremony, but it should have been in the box set already.

While I am not all that disappointed in the 3x7" idea, it does show that the label is trying to be somewhat creative in generating interest in New Order. I wish London Records backed some of the other artists that I like who seem to get ignored once they release an album.

My only issue/problem is that being in the US, I would love to have the slipcase. Why it is exclusive to UK only, I don't understand (I can gladly pay for postage, had they made the offer). I certainly hope that I can get one cheaply versus having to get it off Ebay and paying an arm and a leg.

I wonder what the release of the single will be like in Austrailia or the US. Be nice if they could do a Maxi-Single for the US with all of the remixes like they did for Krafty and Jetstream. Austrailian releases tend to be good too. Guess we'll wait and see.

Couldn't have put it in better words myself. The Oz release may end up being a 2CD digipak with the 7" b-sides included(Hopefully Warner Oz may be reading these posts and considering a package similar to the one I've just hinted at). Myself, CTB, Solly, RK, Etc all live in hope of such a commonsense decision down here.

I've waited this long for a decent remix of EGG and if it's any good it's 7" only!?!?!??! The LOWEST sound quality available.

No. I'm no hi-fi bore but vinyl offers the HIGHEST sound quality available. The digitisation process removes information and therefore quality from the sound:

"Natural sound is by definition analogue. When a CD recording is created, this analogue sound is digitised. To do this, they take many snapshots of the analogue sound. For a CD recording, they take 44,100 snapshots in a second. These snapshots are then converted to digital information with a certain precision. For a CD recording this precision is 16 bits which means that every one of the 44,100 snapshots needs to be converted into one of the 65,536 (2^16) possible values.

By definition a digital recording doesn’t include all the sound information. Because the number of snapshots that are taken are not infinite (the maximum is 44,100 per second), the process of taking snapshots results in the loss of information.

A record player which plays LP’s is strictly analogue. A vinyl record has a groove carved into it that mirrors the original sound’s waveform. The record player than transforms this groove to an analogue sound signal which can be fed into an amplifier. In this process, no information can be lost. No snapshots need to be taken and the sound doesn’t need be converted to one of the possible 65,536 values. There are an infinite number of ‘snapshots’ and ‘possible values’. Therefore vinyl recording sound richer than CD recordings (as long as you have a decent vinyl record player)."

(from yahoo.answers)

I'm not an expert on sound quality or record distribution, but I am a fan of the band and simply wish I had a decent shot at getting this release in any format.

My biggest lament about all of this is that I feel the best song on the new album is being given a snowball's chance in hell of actually getting airtime. That's really too bad considering all the time and effort put into getting Jetstream out to the masses...when it's the weakest song on the album in my opinion.

Now I'll have to buy 4 versions!

There's something about the 3x7"s that makes me want to buy the LOT. & then the following week I'll have to get the cd version - so that I don't have to go out to the shed to play it on the old turntable!

If we all do that it will chart - for 2 weeks instead of one:D

So SLY is sort of a "single" in my book, hence why it's listed in the Single section of the discography here.

Reasonably true! But 7" has a lower resolution than 12", something to do with the angle of the pickup to the record!? Also I believe 33rpm to be better quality than 45rmp.

Mint condition records on a quality deck sound excellent. Those ones with the plastic tone-arm :nonono: will not give sound quality.

And trust me, I have to fight to get anything out of them!!!

I'm still waiting for a WFTSC promo and a Jetstream UK CD set from them!!!!!!! I'm about to buy the Jetstream CDs ;) I got the US ones and one of the UK promo fortunatly.

Funny how some DJ that will never play them get copies to put in the trash while I don't get one by default... oh well.. :\ohwell:

Anyways, for SLY, it was actually SOLD in shops... so I wouldn't call it a "promo" per se, even though it features a promo catalog number...

I think they will jump on the opportunity to release all that on CD and get sales from overseas ;)

Yes, I vote for this - as an aussie myself! When are we getting any of thid released?

I'm pissed about the slipcase...guess I'll have to buy it on Ebay unless any of the other regs here have any left over after sending 'em to everyone else :banghead:

I have no problem with the 7"'s and also have very little doubt that we'll see all of these tracks in cd form available (or digital download at the least) at some point.

This seems like it might be a gimmick to get us going on wanting the tracks and then we all pay for the 1st pressing of the CD...better chance of charting that way.

As I understand it, 45s sound better than 33s, something to do with the speed and related volume boost.

I can't see the argument with 12" sounding better than 7" due to the angle. It's a bit like saying the last couple of minutes on a 12" will sound crap  The only significant difference would be squeezing a song that is too long for 7" and having the grooves too close, a 12" single that can spread itself over the vinyl will sound better for that reason.

I would recommend the ELP Laser Turnatble at www.elpj.com

Oh, btw, that promo CD single that was mentioned earlier is looking more suspect as the days go by! :nono:

The registered domain name of 808state.co.uk (mentioned on the sarm.co.uk site) has nothing to do with 808 State (at least officially), and Sarm has nothing to do with Sarm Studios (ZTT/Trevor Horn), so I'm guessing that the Arthur Baker one doesn't have anything (officially) to do with him either...

I'll believe the rumours of this promo CD single if I actually see one... :nonono:

An exercise in futility if ever I heard one.

It would seem to be the action of a label trying to kill a band off rather than ignite interest in it.

People with record players are in the extreme minority now, this release serves little or no purpose and the single will sink like a stone.

on an Ebay note, when Nine Inch Nails released a collectors box for the 9" vinyl singles off the new album, it was free from the website for UK fans only too, anyway as i'm not a big NIN fan i sold mine on Ebay 3 days after recieving it for £70 not a bad little profit.

Interesting to note HMV's listing for this single:

Well, according to every track list I've read, both the 83 and 88 versions of Blue Monday are going on 'The Singles' - one on disc one, the other on disc two - so that "press release" is wrong. Besides, if London were to release this as a "promo", that's a waste, as the promo's tracklisting is more interesting than the 2-track regular CD they're bringing out.

Tony, have you checked the home page? Apparently it will be a two track CD single, not the CD you're talking about... maybe you've been told about such a track list because they had a similar idea... they also thought about having Colder and Planet Funk to remix the track... well, it just looks like they changed their minds a lot of times. Anyway it's true Trevor Horn couldn't have anything to do with this single... But still I think you're honest about what you write, if it was just bollocks, just a joke, you wouldn't insist so much... but you can check your source, you'll see things have changed since you last met them... Oh, I've seen the video... mmmh, a kid looking like Barney running... right, but why is it not on Item?

I beg to differ. But, of course, you are free to use a WAV editor and create your own, sub-four-minute radio version that improves on the Radio Edit. It includes all the key parts of the track (two verses, two choruses, instrumental and sad refrain at the end, all without a naff fade), which is more than can be said for some of the dodgy edits of early singles.

Nevermind the format and remixes available, surely the actual song (WFTSC) is only 'average' at best. I'd have thought, 'Who's Joe?' would'ave made a much better choice for a single.

I love the Rich Costey Mix. I prefer it to the album version. It has more depth and bass than the original version. It sounds fantastic, and now I like the song more.

Otherwise, you can capture (or rip) the audio from the 'Item' DVD and get your Rick Costey Radio Edit taken from the video. That's what I did.

This might be a teeny tiny bit off topic, but how can one best go about this capturing or ripping of which you speak?

The edit is quite widely available on promo cd. Ebay had a few. I like the edit. It's one of their better ones.

We'll probably get the sleeves a few months after the single is released; if we're lucky...

Why didn't they just give them away over the counter?

I ordered the 7" singles and Item from hmv.co.uk and have received all of them. There was a slight delay, but that was apparently caused by HMV moving their operation to Guernsey (or was it Jersey?). The 2 track CDS is widely available in HMV stores, so I assume you will be able to get it online. Oh, and my slipcase arrived before the singles were even released...

Slipcase still a complete waste of time as the records don't fit

They do if you use the patented Hibster face-down method.

They DO fit if you put them on the opposite side.

My wife made me look like a complete idiot when she managed to make them fit
