Does anyone know how many of the songs on the Singles compilation are different from the versions already available on Substance, Retro, Best Of, proper NewOrder albums, etc.?

Thanks.

Hopefuly most of them.

Substance has no single version on it.

Retro have only the TBTHOG single version, can't think of any other.

If this is TRULY the 7" versions, it will be mostly never released on CD tracks.

But don't put too much hope on this.

If they're the proper 7" versions, the tracks on the new comp that have never been on CD before should be Ceremony, EGG, Temptation, BM, Confusion, Thieves, PK, Subculture, State, and True Faith. Versions that have been on CD-single but have never been compiled include the single edits of BLT, Crystal, 60 MPH, Krafty, Jetstream, Sirens', and possibly Turn, if they make any changes to the album version.

What complicates matters a bit is that some 7" edits were only available on promos -- that's the case for Confusion, for example. There are also short versions that tend to show up on comps, like the album version of PK, that are not in fact the proper 7" edits but seem to be commonly mistaken for them. PK is additionally confusing because, iirc, there's a a different Factory Benelux 7" edit of the song.

My guess is that we're going to get a comp full of short versions and not necessarily the correct 7"s. After all, the actual a-side to the Factory and Qwest "True Faith" 7" is actually a Shep Pettibone 4:04 remix of the track, not the edit of original version that's played on radios. All of which is to say that it'll be a surprise!

As some stated, you might even get True Faith 94 single edit instead of the 87 edit.

Right, after all this is the same label which is releasing the WFTSC single on triple 7" only! Twats! :evil4:

Dan! Long time no see! Remember me and how you got the CD single of Feel Every Beat on Ceremony back in the late 90s? :D

Oh I dunno if that would be such a bad thing if it turned out to be the 94 radio edit. According to the original Factory CDV and as Daniel pointed out the "7 inch" is just a "remix edit" by Shep Pettibone which I don't think is held in very high regard by fans. The 12" mix from (the rest of) maybe more so, but the edit is a bit of a hack job and I doubt fans who don't own the CDV or an obscure soundtrack will even know of it (unless they're MP3'd up)

The closest thing to a genuine 7" version of the 87 TF is the Album Edit from the Qwest CD promo which isn't bad, just a straightforward edit down.

That was the 7" version. I have it here in a shiny blue sleeve with a gold leaf on it. Only place it's on CD is that Qwest promo you mention - so one to put on 'The Singles'.
