Seems like all promo covers from the WFTSC era....
Obviously, it's not the final one.

Awful. Peter Saville is dead.
I'm pretty sure it's not it... can't be.
Saville would NEVER use the same artwork as True Faith...

Reminiscent of death (leaf skeleton)... or the end... This doesn't look like a NO cover to me... Whoever did it thinks that NO are wrapping soon.

How about True Faith 94?

He did modify it at least !
Mind you, he did want to recycle the PCL sleeve for WFTSC... And lets face it, the Singles LP is yet another recycling of the NO back catalogue for us mugs to buy, just so we can get the odd new-to-CD 7" version...
I hope it's not the sleeve though - whatever happened to Saville the innovator?

Oooh I would love that, actually. :D
I actually like simplicity. (WFTSC's cover (the album) was just unacceptable, though)
The old Single cover with just the "S" was better than the naked girl...
well, the black cover is spot on. i love it. it's perfect inna substance meets Low-Life at the end of a lonely day. the font is the same used on Low Life iirc. i wonder how much bitching we would have seen if Substance had been released during the internet age!
anyway, looks like another 20bucks will be spent on this even though i've got EVERYF**KING thing on there already.
Release RECYCLE NOW!

I think that is brilliant. It would be in keeping with PS's recent brillaint reworking of Unknown Pleasures. I'd buy the tee-shirt and everything!
Both of these don't look too bad, I can't see the TF style being real though, the plain, WFTSC style would fit with PS's "can't be arsed doing CD sleves anymore", attitude, not minimalist, minimal effort![]()
Seems strange that this cd is being released in a couple of weeks and amazon.co.uk is not listing it yet.

They're always late lately... I don't even visit Amazon anymore. There's nothing new.
Uhm, the one with the leaf looks fookin great and I think that could be the true cover. I wouldn't like the one with the Low Life font, but looks like a promo.
The True Faith leaf was one of the best singles covers and reworking it, stripping it down for a collection of singles, of which True Faith is, for its importance, though not chronologically, a centre piece is a good idea.
The font is really cool too, recalls Substance, a classic but modified with a futuristic feel.
Actually, the fact that this work would be his first true creative effort since Technique on a font and on an image make me skeptical now!
Being released the same day as Item, it MUST be another image with an Helvetica font.
But who did that sleeve then? Just the record shop to show a cover while the true one arrives? The guy is a great Saville fan then...

looks like the cover for the best of underworld

But concur, the font type on this Leaf cover is ghastly looking.

Republic is one of the best sleeve designs I've ever seen in my life.

Pity the music is so crap

It looks like a hack trying to approximate the 'look' of Substance. Except the font is hideous!
Hmmm. It doesn't look like Saville's work to me. The font and handling of the leaf look very uncharacteristic of his style. I doubt it's his, so I doubt it's the real thing. But if it is the real thing and if it is actually his work, well...I don't know what to say! I don't know how I feel about it. Part of me loves it, part of me hates it. The more I think about it, the more there is to like, but my most basic and immediate reaction is one of dislike.
I think it would be interesting if Saville did one of his "Waste" paintings using all of the NO singles as it its basis.
What do you think???

He already did that (well, not with all the singles), but the actual painting was just shown at exhibitions, as I seem to recall...
i guess the "leaf" and style is in the same view as Substance, which makes alot of sense.
but...i don't like it thou, the font is lame...its all visually uninteresting, maybe shows that Saville has lost interest which is a shame because Saville and New Order have been great for each other

Yes, you are right. He did a series of them using - I believe - 7 or 8 singles per painting. I just think it would be interesting if he did it with all of them in the order of the tracklisting (or chronologically). It reminds me of Rem Koolhaas' design for the EU flag. It would make sense to me, at least.
Undecided about recent art work. One thing you can say about WFTSC artwork is that it catches your eye. Everytime I visit the NO section of any store I always put WFTSC vinyl and CD at the front and it stands out (NO I'm trying to help boost your sales in my own feeble way. So will you help me and release ITEM in Oz? Thanks).

Vinyl in a shop? I haven't seen that in 10 years ![]()
There was a full page ad in the Observer (UK Sunday paper) Music Monthly supplement yesterday, all the single covers to date in a thumbnail left to right, top down montage....
..and 'New Order - Singles' in that font underneath. The font, at least, is the real thing :(
No scanner access here, unfortunately.

I do! Link works!
The font type is absolutely disgusting.
The title of the compilation - SINGLES - is boring and not New Order-ish.
They should be called somethinhg like TRUE SINGLES or RETIREMENT.
Looks like everything is getting worse with every release.
well, well, well... i guess it's going to some kinda "international"-desaster. if you check here Singles-Preview you can listen to some 30 sec.snippets! And if you start with "Ceremony" you can hear... it's the "substance"-version! guess it's the same with the rest (confusion, etc.). ![]()
Aw fuck, really? Surely it's the 'original' Ceremony cover featured in the ad pictured elsewhere?
I personally loved the True Faith leaf skeleton. But yeah, who am I? If it isn't Saville, it just shows how good he is.
Oh for pity`s sake, not that lame piss poor, recorded on a dull boring monday shite substance version![]()
why oh why oh why.why did that version turn out so fucking shite?.and a lot of people actually prefer it from the 7" gold sleeve version!.i give up .i really do.

C'mon, everoyne of us could make the same cover. One even did really - look at that Amazon boot with NO story and PFOD.... Nah... it's too hideous. Too nasty and tasteless, don't you see, poor man?
Please PLEASE PLEASE!!! NO MORE SODDIN, PISSIN, FRIGGIN, FUCKIN WHITE COVERS!!! ![]()
If it HAS to be minimalist to the point of catatonically boring, then go for BLACK for a fooking change!
Surely the preferred idea that would delight the fans is if they created a wonderful tiled montage for the front and back consisting of ALL 30 OR SO SLEEVE COVERS placed side by side in order in miniature - that way we get 16 squares for the front and 16 squares for the back. It would be a piece of art worthy of the New Order name.
And the track listing can sit inside the booklet or whatever. Or on a sumptuous plastic overlay if it was to come out in a digipak - FOOK ME - WHY CAN'T I DESIGN THE COVER FOR THIS COMPILATION INSTEAD?????!!!!! I'm just a poor art teacher !! :(
Stupid Peter Savile cokehead wanker!!!

I agree about the WHITE covers. They are very hard to keep MINTY MINT aswell! Also although we have the speed of the INTERNET to give us all the information about NEW releases, these days they are very difficult to actually get hold of.No record shops round here will have the new stuff without ordering.I loved just being able to walk into the NEAREST Record store on release DAY to see the new single without having a clue what it would be like. Not even sure i will get all the latest stuff until SEVERAL weeks after release.Guess i am getting a bit more JADED.I should get out MORE!:D Rocket SLIPCASED

So you reckon the montage wouldn't be very "original" - but then, nothing is any more from Peter Saville is it? I mean, are you implying that the current lame excuse for a "cover" "design" IS "original" then? Put it this way - ANYTHING would be better than the umpteenth boring white cover with boring centred text ..... ANYTHING! Stick on a picture of fucking Bernard Manning if you like - that would probably be a vast improvement on what we're getting......it's a piece of crap. ![]()
I like the skeleton! Bastards. (and yeah, HMV had a big poster of it when I went to go and get the WFTSC 7"s)
