The gig to end all gigs!!! Old Blue started a thread on this over in the Ceremony Forum, but the phone's been going all morning. Half the English contingent here have bought up the tickets!

It's a 917 capacity venue. There isn't a single point in the room which could genuinely say New Order are just 'dots' unless you're incredibly myopic!
It's the tiniest venue they've played since the 80's!

Having done gigs in both venues, most people just bundle down the front.

Because of security, bombs, health and safety, etc... I severely doubt that we'll be allowed to crowd down the front, therefore i'm not taking the chance of ending up in a crappy seat at the back!

Reckon they should play Sunrise..cos Peel used to say he loved it. Also, drop BM, not one of Peel's faves apparently. In fact, they should try and do an innovative, unpredictbale set-list (even for 45 mins)in honour of the great man ! wish I could go :(

Considering the lower stands had all sold out in less than half an hour the chances of getting any seats down the front were slim in anycase, people should just be grateful to be inside the venue and experience them play live to such a small crowd.
You can bet they will give the performance of their lives as well in respect for John.

Just worked out these seats are only 12 rows from the front with the added bonus of dancing space to the front and the side b4 we storm the front.

I didn't have the EFFING CHANCE to buy a ticket at the front because the EFFING TICKETS at the front were sold out when I found out this gig was on- if you read my posts you would have understood this- I don't think wanting a ticket at the front makes me a 'moaning TW*T'; if I pay good money I want a good view!

You COULD have bought a ticket for a row, say, 15 metres back from the stage but you're now moaning cos you didn't get one 10 metres closer to the stage. Some people here have travelled miles to see New Order and have watched them from different postcodes at some of the bigger gigs. Try going to Glastonbury one year - watching New order from the very front there is FURTHER away than any of the seats available to you when you were whinging on here yesterday arvo. It's not like you even had to travel to this give, you live in London! You're also making it sound like you would've been up in the Gods. You wouldn't have been. There were seats available halfway back when you started posting yesterday arvo. I'm sorry, but I just don't get your moaning whatsoever. You had your chance, you didn't bother buying a ticket. Other people sadly didn't even see this till the venue had Sold Out. I genuinely hope you get a ticket closer to the front but I think just getting 'inside' the venue is the important thing here. I've been to both the QEH and the RFH and it becomes a bit of a free-for-all towards the end.

I love NO, but going to every live gig isn't my aim in life.
I've seen them up close at Hyde and Finsbury Park and i've been to Glasto and Reading (not recently thou') so i'm aware of the views there. My criteria for seeing an NO gig is that a/ It's in London and b/ I can be sure of getting within 20m of them; otherwise I don't think it's worth paying (you say the views were 15m back, but it didn't look that good to me). Indeed. the venue has only 917 seats, there are only about 30 rows, which ain't very far back! If you can't see clearly from 30 rows back (which incidentally is probably the optimum area for sound clarity at this type of venue), then you must be Stevie Wonder.

I'd like to know how you managed this. I saw them at both venues and the stages there were huge, real festival size. Closer you got to the front you were just looking UP at the band. At the Queen Elizabeth Hall it's a low-stage. You could probably have grabbed Hooky's ankle if he ventured close enough to the front of the stage. The drop in the Royal Festival Hall is about 7ft I think, it's similar in the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
It's the most intimate gig New order have done since the 1980's (I can't think of anything that comes close?) and you could've had a ticket halfway back and didn't bother buying one, that's all there is to it. As you might've seen on another post of mine, they're only doing 20mins on the night now. Another excuse for you not to show really.

I had to sit up on the Balcony at Liverpool in 2001, but the whole point was that I was there.

We've all got lives outside of NO DW. To imply we haven't cos we're going to a gig in our home town is slightly harsh, don't you think ?.
But on another level I kinda know where you're coming from. I turned down a ticket for The White Stripes at Brixton this year cos it was a seat at the back of the venue and I like the atmosphere in the standing area. Thing is I'm not that big a White Stripes fan. Got a couple of their albums, sure and Doorbell's a cracking little tune. But I've never been near their web site and don't eagerly await their next release. Now that's where I don't get it. You're obviously a big NO fan, you come on here all the time and regularly contribute to the forum. So why be so precious over your vantage point ? you could pluck Steve Morris' nasal hair from the back row of this place.
I do feel sorry for the many NOOLers who live overseas or miles from London and would have given their back teeth to see the band in a venue as intimate as this, but clearly can't get to the gig. You turning your nose up at the gig on the grounds you've given will stick in the throat of many I assure you.
It just kinda sounds like, "If I can't have exactly what I want then I'm not going". Spoilt kid syndrome if I'm being honest with you mate.

Suffice to say, there is considerable demand for this event, and to come up with flimsy excuses like being too far back from the front is just pitiable. Even the very back row of this venue will still be a lot nearer, clearer and more generally accessible than the very front row at Hyde Park or Finsbury!

Who is bigging themselves up? I've not made any grand claims about anything?
All i'm saying is I wanted a ticket in the front rows. If I'm paying good money for 20 mins of The Order and 3 hours of chunder I want the best view, otherwise it's a waste of time and money; in my opinion- which is not everyone else's. I'm sure everyone will have a great time and that it will be a special night, but despite the wonders of a small venue it's not for me- unless i'm in the front rows (repeats ad nauseum).

when you buy your hyde park/ finsbree tickets etc do you get front row reserved tickets or unreserved ones like the rest of us?

You're not helping yourself, are you, dw. From memory, at both Hyde Park and Finsbury Park, there was a pit-FULL of security between both you, and the stage, which was a very high stage at that. On the South Bank, they don't have such pits. You can literally walk right up to the stage. Which is very low. It's intimate.
Still, I hope you're gonna join everyone here for an evening soiree on the 12th. Can't not really, can you, seeing as you actually live/work in town!

ignoring the semantics of the word title there are going to be lots of people with the same idea. so wouldn't you miss several hours worth of telly, whilst at the same time having to endure several hours of "chunder" (was that what you called it?) to be FURTHER BACK than you would be at this gig?
hang on lads - i think i've cracked it - dw is only three foot tall & so if he isn't right at the front he can't see over anyone.

At the Queen Elizabeth Hall it's a low-stage. You could probably have grabbed Hooky's ankle if he ventured close enough to the front of the stage. The drop in the Royal Festival Hall is about 7ft I think, it's similar in the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
It's the most intimate gig New order have done since the 1980's (I can't think of anything that comes close?) and you could've had a ticket halfway back and didn't bother buying one, that's all there is to it. As you might've seen on another post of mine, they're only doing 20mins on the night now. Another excuse for you not to show really.
I'm pretty sure I could have grabbed Hooky's ankle for real at the Hammerstein Ballroom ;)
If it's even closer than that one, it's going to be great.

Click on the back rows. Then click on the front rows. Big difference.
All i'm saying is I wanted a ticket in the front rows. If I'm paying good money for 20 mins of The Order and 3 hours of chunder I want the best view, otherwise it's a waste of time and money; in my opinion- which is not everyone else's. I'm sure everyone will have a great time and that it will be a special night, but despite the wonders of a small venue it's not for me- unless i'm in the front rows (repeats ad nauseum).

here's a secret for you too.
if you book as soon as it opnes you can get seats at the front before everyone else. please don't share that with everyone else.

Check out that big expanse of floor in front of the stage, Craigy. THAT's where most of the auditorium will have encamped to, by the time the Order take the stage. Trust me.
Just be thankful you didn't get front row seats cos you wouldn't have gone down too well constantly whinging, "Sit down! I can't see!" from somewhere sat behind us!
