Greetings fellow fans. Can anyone confirm that the U.S. release of "Item" DVD DOES NOT CONTAIN THE VIDEO for "Waiting for the Sirens"? I read a review on Amazon that mentions the video is no where to be found. I see it is listed on the UK release. Cheers

I can confirm that it DOES include it.. but I can't confirm it doesn't... ;)

But that is the press release... I don't have the actual DVD on hand, as it will be released only tomorrow.

I will be buying this tonight at midnight PST. Will return here and geek out.

where are you getting it from Spencer?

I *was* going to get it at the Virgin Megastore in Hollywood as they stay open past midnight on Monday nights so you can buy the new Tuesday releases. Unfortunately I passed out and will now have to wait til my lunch break to buy it like normal people!

I'm getting skeptical about finding a copy locally. I'll be doing some driving around and calling today, but I went to Best Buy's website and it listed it as "available for pickup at most stores" - but when I plugged in my zip code it showed "unavailable" at every store in the entire state of Ohio.

Nice.

Seriously!! I'd laugh right along with you if it weren't so depressing :)

I remember when the new Wire album came out a couple years ago. Nobody around here ordered any, and I only came across one person who'd even heard of them. I don't know what I'd do without online ordering.

Picked up my copy this morning, and YES, it does include WFTSC.

What about disc 2?

Yahtzee!!

The fourth place I went had one copy.

Borders for the win. I'll remember them for this.

Disc 2 is "The New Order Story" in all it's uncut glory, with additional footage and interviews...haven't had a chance to watch it yet though...

picked mine up at my local best buy (or should i call it worst buy) after opening it up i noticed as mentioned in another thread that the covers for the cases were switched. it isn't a big deal i thought it was kind of funny...

Here's what I'm most worried about:

Has anyone been able to put it in and make sure Perfect Kiss is the full version and not the edited version that came with International?

edit: just opened mine and the covers are switched too. strange. can't wait to get home and watch

i picked up Item at virgin megastore for 19.99. very nice packaging. it also includes a small booklet with liner notes by video producer Michael Shamberg. he mentions his webiste will have commentary on the videos and some other treats. www.kinoteca.net - nothings up there as of yet.

Where do you live in Ohio?

I got my copy of Item at Magnolia Thunderpussy Records on North High St. in Columbus.

Actually, I got my copy yesterday. Im friends with the employee's there (one of them being a giant NO fan and a DJ at the local Alternative station) they gave me my copy of it early....

Got mine today. $17.99 at Newbury Comics in Rhode Island. Covers switched here too.

Amazon confirmed me that my copy was shipped...

It says....IMPORT...hope it's the UK version

Don't hate me cause I work at a record store :evil4:

But I talked with the local Warner (WEA) rep. She had been at meetings in New York and got a promo copy of "Item" Pretty good chance that whenever she comes in this week-that sucker is ALL MINE!!!!! :P

Mine were switched also. I admit I had a quick panic attack when I opened the first one fearing that the other disc was going to be something completely different, like Yoko Ono, Live!. Thank God it was just reversed. Whew!

My local Best Buy was the only place I could find 'Item.' I looked all over. The distribution seems rather poor! Best Buy only had ONE copy, and I was happy to grab it for $19.99.

i picked up my copy at the local Tower Records. they had about a dozen copies, and the price was $18.99.

the DVDs were switched in mine as well. also, the little booklet for the Collection dvd was in the New Order Story case. someone messed up in the factory!

another thing i noticed was a little skip in the first few minutes of The Perfect Kiss video, right around where Gillian turns on one of the sequencers. it's very slight, but definitely noticeable.

in addition, i'd like to add that i enjoyed the new Ceremony and Temptation videos very much, although they don't feature the band at all... well at least the Temptation video loosely features the 12" for Temptation

Ahh...so that skip wasn't my imagination. I just finished NewOrder Story a few minutes ago. I recommend watching that first. Otherwise you're watching lots of the videos twice.

First I would like to say, what a great dvd. I dont know what was added to story??? Seems like the UK version to me.

And 5.1 Sound!!!! Wow my living room never sounded so good! Well Story was only in 2.0 sound.

I liked the two new videos. Ceremony was funny since he was just walking in front of a screen.

I dont know if anybody noticed but the 5.1 sound in the "more" section is not even with the picture? Sterio is, but 5.1 is about 2 seconds off. You cant notice on Ceremony & Temptation, because the image dosn't need to match the sound, but when you watch Regret Baywatch, Barney is not singing along with the song. And the same goes for Temptation live 83.

And yes my dvd's were switched as well. I bet it was done on purpose to stop people from selling them separted.

The 5.1 sound makes it totally worth it! Depeche Mode & Petshop boys should take notice!!!

i apologise in advance if this is a stupid question, but on amazon.com "item" is listed as "a collection" with the review stating that it is a 2xDVD set.

has anyone actually ordered "item" through amazon.com, and if so, was it in fact "item" that turned up in your mailbox or "a collection"?! hope this makes sense, i'm confusing myself...

You will get "Item" with "A Collection" + "NewOrderStory" if you buy via Amazon USA.

All US copies are the Double DVD... Amazon just fooked up their listing.

this collection is excellent. being a complainer though, i only have 2 gripes:

  1. the 5.1 mixes were not true "discrete" mixes of the material

and...

  1. the music for the video of "World" is the album mix and not the "Perfecto Mix" i originally saw aired.

other than that, this is a great release. i even got it for under $20!

When I looked at the press release of New Order Item 2-dvd set, I was wonder what the heck is Paris-Beijing Ceremony, Temptation. As New Order've never been to Beijing, I thought it was a printing error. After watching the dvd, I found it is Yu Lik-Wai(a HK dorector) is the director of the newly made Ceremony video and the video is filmed in Beijing. The two dvd covers are taken from the same video. As a die-hard New Order fan, I'm so prond of a HK director finally made a New Order video(and a Joy Division song) even the video is badly directed.

Fantastic package overall, I can't believe the videos are complete down to the lead-ins and credits.

I've seen most of these before, but having seen it for the first time last night I have to say that '60 Miles an Hour' is possibly the strangest video ever made. WTF??

And, no doubt, it's worth 20 bucks of for a full-length 'Perfect Kiss' video in DVD quality with 5.1 sound alone.

(oh yeah, the mismatched video/audio on the Baywatch thing is annoying)

Apparently there is a delay on the new videos, and a few errors here and there?

Somebody sent me that:

* The "More" section - the videos are all out of sync with the pictures * "New Order Story" the chapters do not always correspond to the videos listed for them

Nobody's perfect I guess.

I did receive my copy monday, but the damned courier sticky note was gone with the wind... so I have to do a pickup today... !

the videos are remastered? The dvd story includes Brazilian portuguese legends?

$19.99 on sale at Virgin Union Square here in NYC... Just grabbed it at lunch.

Kind of lost in the rack of "new releases" by the front door but it is there if you look hard enough.

Can't wait to re-watch New Order Story after all these years.

I hope kim's underground has it becaus i have a gift card for them. I guess this will stop their bootleg copies of NOstory.

I got a copy at Tower Records yesterday for $18.99. A great release! I hadn't seen NewOrderStory in ages and had only seen the short version. I'm surprised they didn't interview Stephen Hague in the documentary. They should have put him instead of Bono who doesn't say anything remotely interesting.

So Manumatic, where did you end up getting it? At Mags? Cause I saw the Best Buy website too, and I checked today at media play on the Wesside (aight?) and they did not have it either. drats. looks like I'm waiting until next week when this damn bronchitis finally leaves my body for good, hopefully...

I dont know about manumatic....

I bought my copy at Magnolia Thunderpussy. They had two or three copies of it.

I doubt the Media Play ont he West Side would have it, since almost everyone who works there, like most people on the West Side, are complete idiots.

And I can say that cause I grew up on the West Side.:)

NewOrderStory is amazing, such a wonderful documentary.

However, it doesnt feature clips of the live video or World, which the US video shorter version does...

Picked mine up today at the Beast Buy in Salem, nobody else had it within a 20 minute drive of my house. At any rate, quite glad to own an "official" version of NOStory. And yes, there is one more instance of the wrong disc in the wrong sleeve in the package. Quite like the slipcase though. :thumb:

Maybe I wasn't watching really, really closely, but the Baywatch Regret seemed to be in sync to my eyes.

I got mine from Amazon.com today. Amazing, as I thought it was gonna come like next week.

Same thing here -- notes in the wrong case, reversed DVDs, but everything's here.

One thing I noticed about the NewOrderStory here is that it is listed as 138 minutes. The Canadian VHS version I have says it is 140 minutes! It's probably exactly the same, but I'm glad I have both. [Oh, never mind -- it's actually the same thing, as the outside box says "approximately 140 minutes," which is what the cassette says.]

The liner notes by Shamberg are great. It's so awesome to see how one person has basically seen the entire catalog through, you know? I'm betting it's kinda rare, especially nowadays.

I wonder why people say the WFTSC video isn't on it, because I'm watching it... RIGHT NOW !!

Got it two hours ago.

My covers were switched.

'Regret' - Baywatch was in synce totally.

'The Perfect Kiss' does in fact skip.

I haven't gotten to NewOrder Story yet but WHY DID THEY TAKE OUT THE ALTERNATE 'WORLD' CLIP!!! That was my favorite part of the video! Dammit. Glad I have the old VHS.

I remember back in '94 asking my record dealer in town to hold it for me while I raced from the beach into town, driving the wrong way down one-way streets to get to the shop to get that VHS before they closed. I remember thinking, "Wow, I'm finally gonna hear New Order TALK!"

But really, what's up with the absence of the alternate 'World' clip???

I am also only aware of one version of the world clip and I do have clips of it from sources such as the New Order Story, the Best Of and the telly, so if there's an alternate clip it should've been on at least one of them.

How is it different?

It's the part of the movie where they play World, it's like, they're on stage, and there is a lot of blue lights and, I believe it's not the album version or the Perfecto Edit, they're playing a slightly different mix.

All I remember is that there is a lot of blue lights and they are playing it on a stage set-up.

Please forgive me, I haven't watched the NewOrder Story DVD and it's been years since I watched the VHS copy I have.

I am just going on what the other guy posted a page ago - he said something like a clip of 'World' was missing. And I remembered, as much as I like the real video of it, I like this other footage which has the band 'semi-performing' it.

Please fill me in.

Anyhow, this rules. '60 Miles An Hour' is the best video of all time. I liked the new 'Temptation' video but could do without the mental image of a Chinese guy dumping Tide all over a tunnel everytime I hear 'Ceremony' now. The WFTSC video was fairly lackluster.

I can't believe how much got cut out of my NO Story VHS. This extended version is great. Damn you people with laserdisc players who knew this already!

I don't remember that to be in NewOrderStory though. Unless this was on the US NewOrderStory and nobody ever noticed it's not on the UK editon? :confused2:

I guess you are talking about the version available here online here ?

I didn't watch NewOrderStory for at least 3 years, but I don't remember any live World in it.

However, the only alternate version I know is the one with the Perfecto Edit.

-cries tears of joy-

I AM SOOOOOO HAPPY they stuck 1963 on there.. even though the 94 mix is a shadow of the 87 mix....my only copy until this week was some horrid tv cap in MPEG-1 a friend sent me from europe. i am on cloud 9........

ok and i will add i don't mind the newly concieved videos for Ceremony/Temptation. as a club VJ it has been one of my greatest desires to have some sort of video, however goofy to play for these tracks. i can now do so ;)

now all the 18 yr olds who come out to my thursdays can feel the chill down their back when an old New Order track creeps out over the loudspeakers.

I got it at Borders on Sawmill Rd. (I posted in somewhere in here).

They had one copy, but at least they had it. $21.99, but I didn't have to order it so I was happy. Awesome package, just starting NewOrderStory which should be cool since I've only seen the short one. Had to stop watching last night for the 'Lost' premier. :)

So the video for "Round and Round" on Collection is very slightly different from the version I've seen before (not talking about the alternate "Patti" version). There are different shots of the woman near the end with the perm. Haven't watched New Order Story yet to see if that version is the one I'm talking about.

Question New Order Story US Edition include Japanese subtitles?

It's great that Neworderstory is in it's full unedited glory.
All the rare live footage is not truncated as it was on the VHS tape released so long ago. And all those extra commentaries!!! What did Quincy Jones mean when exactly when he suspected NO did indeed like to "hang out"?

Al Jarvis will be happy to know that SUNRISE is the track playing in the DVD menu of NewOrderStory ;)

There are NO subtitles on NewOrderStory, sorry folks.

I know this is one of the most tired New Order questions, but I can't find the answer anywhere, so don't get too mad.

Is the bearded guy in the Confusion video Arthur Baker?

Who's the heavy-set man in the Perfect Kiss video, and the other guy nodding his head behind the door?

Please help, it's driving me crazy.

Isn't there a New Order FAQ anywhere?

Yes, that's Arthur Baker in the "Confusion" video. He takes the reel-to-reel to Jellybean Benitez IIRC.

Don't know the guys in behind the glass in "The Perfect Kiss" video, but the guy standing in the doorway is Jonathan Demme who, consciously or not, sort of stands in for an approving Ian Curtis looking in from heaven...

The big guy behind the glass in the PK video is Slim, one of the band's roadies. The guy in the doorway is, I think, Andy Robinson, another long-time associate the band. It is not Demme.

He's their manager, it's more than "long time associate" don't you think? ;)

The menus on A Collection are great, loved how they use Vanishing Point for one submenu (Audio I believe).
