As anyone who has followed my Wise© words of wisdom will know(so that's no-one then) I have long championed The Village as my all time favourite New Order song of all time. So which track has lured me away? I hear you ask. Well the track in question was one I originally regarded not exactly with derision, more that it was included on the album as a replacement for Blue Monday, as they didn't believe in putting singles on the albums. Over time though it has come to embody the soul of their sound and it's clattering beats have me jumping:jump: around like the looney I truly am, more than any other. I have truly heard it's calling, I only have have to hear the opening bar of the intro come rumbling in and I'm away.....I see danger danger danger........

So yes as you can all probably guess I'm officially the latest convert the I love:love: Rock The Shack:love2: appreciation society:D

When a new song turns towards you And the night becomes a day We shall remain forever Everyone who meets this way............

Oh, our love is like the earth The sun and the trees and the afterbirth

Your love died ten minutes ago Unspoken words that cannot show

Nice one Hanky:jump:

I defy anyone to listen to the album every day for the next couple of weeks and still say they don't like this cracking song. This speech was made by The Voice Of Sense and Sensibility;)

He's being sarky I reckon

I've always had a little soft spot for RTS and have fought in its corner for quite a while now

Glad you cleared up that confusion, Wank. A very worthy choice.

slagging RTS again???? I shall hit myself over the head with an empty beer can in protest...then proceed to go pop in a Britney's Speared CD...

wait, am I going just a bit overboard now???

I'd say this is about praising 5-8-6, Jeff, not knocking RTS.

And now it's time for my first ever entry into the great RTS debate.......

It's not that bad, but would have been a better B-side than an album track. It just doesn't belong on Get Ready. Great JD riffing feel to it - reminds me of Day of the Lords in places for some unknown reason.

586 is a great track though, always was a live favourite of mine, and unlike Marco, I like the Peel Session version. I'm going to trawl Audiogalaxy tonight looking for alternate versions !

Anyone know more about the rumoured extended 5 8 6, 20 minute version?

was it the 'Video 586' cd single thingy that was released about 5 years ago. It is about 20 mins long. I think the track originally accompanied the opening of the HAc or something (this is all from memory and maybe complete bollox)

Anyway, if it is I have got it. It's interesting but not an amazing listen.

Yup, exactly right. "Video 586" was originally released in 1982 on an obscure compilation tape that accompanied a magazine called "Touch - Feature Mist". The master tapes and magazines were drenched by a burst pipe at the Touch offices, so it was re-issued using normal blank Maxell tapes. Photocopies of the magazine pages were available to anyone who could be arsed to write in.
