New Order to be inducted into the UK music hall of fame this year

According to hmv.com. They will also give away a free poster to those pre-ordering "singles"

What kind of hall of fame is it?? Who's there already? The Beatles?

I assume it is the channel 4 one that was on last year. Elvis, the Beatles and Madonna are in it.

What about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio? Seems recently they will induct anyone from U2 to the guy that pushed the broom at Sun Records studio, except JD, Ian or New Order.

Is it some reason our boys get up the nose of the rock establishment?

Man, does anyone else think the whole idea of a rock n' roll hall of fame iis absurd? The whole idea of an art - be it music, writing,painting, whatever - having some venue that say so-and-so is better than someone else I think is bizarre. Basically, music hall of fames feed the baby boomers' egos that their generation was the best, and if we don't worship bob dylan and john lennon, and if we don't spaz out when Neil Young plays a new chord, we're idiots.

It is a bit. But if it gives publicity to the Order, who cares!

Did they get in last year as JD? Cant remember now! Inducted as JD,and then again as NO would be something rather special...

What about the rock n roll hall of fame Barnsley, we have black lace, er seventh son,er charlie williams ,bollox he's a comedian........ Why the fook do no want to be in the hall of fame anyways,surely THIS goes against everything they stand for,or does it?

I don't hold much credence to The Hall Of Fame.Last year I sat watching TV open-jawed at the choices of Beastie Boys,Guns'n'Roses and NWA as candidates.At least JD got a mention.

You can bet your bottom $ that they don't give a fook about any Halls of Fame, even if they make money off them.

If it's the C4 thing; there was an automatic group (as above) and a group you had to vote for; I remember JD being in there, but not NO (I could be wrong though).

No they were nominated last year as JD - I think they should be inducted for both JD & NO as they so totally different but equally good

i'm gonna have to stand up for the Beastie Boys here they we're fairly ground breaking back at the start of the 90's and brought Hip-Hop to a much wider audience.not that they need a hall of fame entrance to be recognized as good.

As for NWA well what needs to be said, they started the wholde gangsta rap thing really, which in some peoples eyes may or may not be a good thing, i think their comical content is very good but musically they we're fairly solid too, 100 miles and running is a superb tune as is most of straight outta compton. i think they did more for there genre of music in two albums than most bands do in a career.

and guns'n'roses - don't like em so can't comment

I think some of NO's percieved socialist cred via some of the gigs they did was probably more at Rob Gretton's insistance than any one or more members of the band's individual views on the cause they were supporting in doing the actual gigs(although doing the AIDS Day gig in '87 certainly would not have done any harm in helping their sales and cred within that particular gay/lesbian/transgender sub-culture and of course a lot of the music that Bernard in particular was taking in alongside a toke or two of pot after Ian's demise was mostly eurodisco/technopop which in part was linked to gay lifestyle).

Back to the main point post-rant. Well fooking deserved and definately not before time.

Alright,I'll give you that.There again,as Shakin' Baker said,more or less,each to their own.How can anyone,even Channel 4 put a box round some artists of different genres and say what their contribution is? The idea is fun in that each band gets their 5 minute mention,but apart from that.....
