'Still' - "Twenty Four Hours" request for info...

Wondering about "Twenty Four Hours" as it appears on some vinyl and the collector's cassette version of Still. Has this appeared on any CD? Does anyone have a high quality mp3? I was very disappointed when it did not appear on Heart & Soul as it's my favorite version of the song.

Sorry Chris, I should have specified that I am in fact speaking only about the live version as it appears on Still. I'm just wondering where the best quality release is of that particular track as played at that particular gig.

Vinyl remains superior to CD, especially if you have a Linn Sondek

My CD copy of Still (cream cover) doesn't include the song.

Which gig are you talking about?

As I said, some vinyl versions and the purple box double cassette version of Still have it. I'm assuming it's also from the same Birmingham University May 2nd, 1980 show. I'm curious about it because I understand that some post production work was done on the live tracks.

It was indeed from the Birmingham 2/5/80 show, nobody has ever come up with a good explanation as to why it didn't feature on the tracklisting on the vinyl, let alone why it was omitted from other formats. The vinyl version doesn't actually have much in the way of post-production. There are at least two high quality audience recordings of this show as well, which would be worth tracking down.

I always used to reckon that the reason Twenty Four Hours wasn't listed on the inside of my old vinyl Still (which I gave away, assuming that all tracks would be on the CD) was for design purposes only - Side Three really had six tracks, whilst all the others had five.

You could well be onto something there, but the most likely reason is still that they made a mistake, or at least made a deliberate omission, as the whole thing was done to ape the JD bootleg vinyl that was becoming increasingly common at the time, and the omnipresent errors in track listings on the boots. Even the title refers to bootlegging, and Ceremony was deliberately cut in deference to the Paradiso boot's decapitation of Passover.

i have still on vinyl but have been trying to find someone who'd have the live version of new dawn fades off still album on mp3 if anyone could help me i would nominate them to be in the queens honours list

Jan (aka Little Boy Lost) did a quality transfer of this, complete with end of New Dawn Fades and beginning of Transmission. With a bit of creative cross-fading, you can get it to blend in seamlessly.

I love Still but have always hated the half-Ceremony.

I maintain that the version of "Disorder" on that album is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard in my life. I'll have to check my vinyl vs cd copy at home later for 24 Hours.

No, it was cut on all versions of Still. It was cut at Wilson's request because they wanted Still to appear as sloppily done as most of the bootlegs that were taking JD money. The first three minutes of Ceremony (yes it was a super long version as they were working out what happened next in the song!) were cut from the version that found its way to the master acetate, as Wilson wanted it to sound like the Gruftesaegne boot of Amsterdam that had the first couple of minutes missing from Passover.

Luckily we have a couple of versions of the full version, and yes it did feature the familiar chiming bass intro.

Hmmm...I find it very difficult to believe that it was deliberately cut - if so a full version would have leaked out by now or would have been put on Heart and Soul. The explanation that I once read was that whoever was taping it simply forgot to press record until after the song had started. 24 Hours is missing from the cd for space reasons i.e. including it would have made the cd greater than 80 minutes. I always assumed it was missing from the vinyl listing as to include it would have cocked up the symmetry of the sleeve design.
