Good review, but I always cringe when "pop music" is used to describe NO.

It's a generous review, but it's still written for 5-year-olds. I remember an NME scribe not so long ago describing the feeling of being "chilled" by 'Ceremony's "frightening modernist beauty". You might think that's pretentious waffle, but it's a heap more evocative than "these are the songs that invented The Bravery" (which for my money is about as damning as it gets).

Incidentally, there's an 8/10 review of 'Singles' on C4 teletext p.354.

so the nme return to arse licking after there review of sirens single. how can they within a week be so contadictory the muppets.

i've always called it pop music. good pop music mind. i've always called the Smiths pop music too. i know its alternative or whatever, but its still pop music.

9 out of 10. Cheeky bastards. OK they`ve had best of before-but Substance is nearly 20 years old and only has half the singles on it,in 12" form. The other two compilations are completely wasted efforts and lets not even start on Retro. We might feel ripped off-but only cos we are so die hard fans,average joe would be getting a bargain 2 disc set for £10.

10 out of 10.

Who cares what they think although it does seem like they want to get back some respect after the trashing of siren's

However, note there is no mention of them liking any single off the new album of which I think 3 are on the singles collection.

I'm gonna get suckered into buying it now just to say I have the damn thing.
