Best bassline never written by Hooky

Have you heard any songs where you hear the bass and think 'That could be Hooky'?

I'm setting my self up for a right good slap here, but friday I'm in love and nbetween days by the cure. Sorry I know this is deeply offensive.

another Cure one is 'Cold', that definitaly could be Hooky.

BTW, I love the cure albums 1 to 6 so there.

I think a lot of the cure sounds like Hooky's bass. Take 'A Forest' or 'Fascination Street'

The Beloved "This Means War" and "In Trouble And Shame" to name but two.....

To the peeps that mentioned the Beloved tracks - are they all on one album? I bought the album with Sweet Harmony and it was shite

But Happiness was a great album.

I always thought U2's New Years Day had a bit of a Hooky feel about it.

Neighbourhood #3 (Power Cut) by ARCADE FIRE.

It is a New Order song in all but vocal - the guitars and drums could be Barney and Steve but you can actually see Hooky playing this one as you listen to it.

No, these songs all date from the first incarnation of The Beloved, when they were a four piece guitar band (before Jon Marsh discovered peace, love and ecstacy).

NEVER written Vince, i.e. basslines that Hooky didn't write. Ceremony and Regret are most definitely his!

Most everything off BT's first 2 albums as well are a complete ripoff of Hooky's bass

lives in L.A. has an annoying haircut - he went from secluded mad scientist writing the early forms of trance, to this pop-star wannabe it seems. i see him occassionally in l.a. clubs like avalon when john digweed or sasha are spinning. most recently, he's done work with a few members of the backstreet boys, or was it nsync??

he probably tries to get credit for inventing the remix too, along with diddy.

I think I remember Rob taking them to task about how they sounded so(too?) similar to NO.

I remember seeing The Cure in Sydney during the Wish tour and Simon Gallup was playing the bassline to "A Forest" and snuck in a small snippet of Hooky's "She's Lost Control" bassline-clever but fooking cheeky at the same time. If anybody on here has the "Cure-Show" video they'll see him do the exact same thing.

Primus (yes, that Primus, the one with the really good bassplayer): Southbound Pachyderm, and some of the middle of "fish on".

An early Soft machine demo my mate has contains stuff that actually sounds like JD....all you can hear is snare drum and a wandering melodic bassline.

What u call that depeche mode song where the Emax guitar plays a little hooky riff as the main errrr hook riff of the song.

BTW,if you want to be really anal about this you can include all JD/NO songs, since no one withint a mile of that band can read the dots, much less write them, their songs have never been "written" :)

EDIT: can I add "the slightlynarrow soundsystem"'s rather fine ditty "leg-end"...brilliant basslines, lots of hooky, best band in the world etc. /end self-plug

If it's one of the singles off "Violator" it could be "Enjoy The Silence" which Gore plays off a low string on the guitar.

everyone always mentions "in between days" but that's nothing! check out "how beautiful you are" on the cure's kiss me, kiss me, kiss me album. intro, every part of the song, is totally bass driven.

One of the remixes of Remember Me has just, a total Hooky rip off bass section.

There's a section in Skinny Puppy's 'Testure' where the beat drops out and a very Hooky bass pattern kicks in. Just the version on VIVAsectVI, the remix on 12" Anthology doesn't have it.

one of the first songs on skinny puppy's 89 album... um... damn it... too dark park! there's this little bass bit that pops up and sounds very hook-like.

In Between days was 1987(?) and has pretty much the same bassline as All The Way, which was....1989! so, i dont see the argument with this one.

It's Neighbourhood #3 (POWEROUT) I agree with the hooky bass resemblances but not with the rest. Arcade Fire's drums are very peculiar. They play drums on helmets and pans.
