New Orders most aggressive song

SUNRISE always has me stepping up the pace on my punchbag. testosterone fueled number,has me sweating bullets tearing the fu^cker up..Not that I'm violent or anything:D Is there a more aggressive song in their catalogue you can think of?

Sunrise for me too - it really rocks. Sad that NO have never bettered this one for sheer all-out guitar assault. I suppose if Murder was recorded at twice the tempo it would wipe the floor with it! :D

My mental image of Skullcrusher has always been Barney chasing Gillian around the recording studio with a billie club or a leather shoe while Steve and Hooky play on in the next booth, unawares.

Sunrise or Skullcrusher

Live versions of BM can sound rather hostile and aggressive, as well. Take, for instance, my personal favorite:

If we're talking out and about in a live environment then surely Sunrise, then tracks like Face Up, Dreams N.E., Temptation, Ceremony, Crystal, all the usual 'wig out' numbers which gets boys bouncing off one another?!

Oh, that's a cool one. I love the renditions of "BM" where Barney used to play guitar lines on top of the whole thing, the heavy feedback intro to the Oakland 1985 version comes to mind as particularly aggressive.

And "Broken Promise" was aggressive live as well.

Skullcrusher for mine. Am I the only one here who likes this little jam? A NO song you could fight to.

Agreed. For example, Let's Go is quite aggressive lyrically

The way Sunrise builds towards the end is pretty aggressive and how it just dwindles away to a final note at the end is superb.

As It Is When It Was gets heated and even now I've no idea of what Barney is saying near the end. He seems to be singing through gritted teeth and it conveys the aggression perfectly.

Any NO track with urgent choppy metallic guitar towards the climax can thus be considered "aggressive" really - Sunrise being the obvious example, plus, as others mentioned, Broken Promise (and a fair few of the guitar ones on Brotherhood for that matter - the delightfully fierce growling bass/drum heavy intro to Way Of Life being a brilliant example), Skullcrusher, some of the Movement stuff like The Him and Senses, the thrashy buzz-synth/percussion breakdown in The Perfect Kiss.....

Hurt just sounds really chaotic - as if the entire band were gleefully trashing the instruments the longer the song went on: listening to Barney whooping near the end (is this the first time he is doing this on record by any chance?) accompanied by the crashing electronic drums makes me giggle. My wife Lorraine absolutely hates that track though - she thinks it's a pile of shit. And I quote : "What are you playing that pile of crap again for? Turn it off! Gives me a bloody headache..!!"

Ok, shite, I forgot about The Him. Not sure how, it's one of my favorites. Does anyone think Way Of Life starts out agressive before the tune starts sounding like the rest of the song?

Songs that are not necessarily aggro but creepy in some respects;

Murder- Including the snippets from Clockwork Orange, Caligula and 2001- hark back a bit to JD's Atrocity Exhibition.

In A Lonely Place-not a song to put on while on your own with gale-force winds and rain pouring down outside- not to mention Ian's lyrics about hanging- bit close to the ultimate fate of IC to overlook.

Elegia- always reminds me a bit of the Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells bit used on The Exorcist.

Having said that about Elegia, it and the Electronic track Lean To The Inside have a Ennio Morricone sort of feel to them as well-Barney has said that once he bought(or was given)his first record player, the very first album he bought to play on it was an Ennio Morricone one...if you don't know who I'm talking about, fine...just think spaghetti westerns like The Good, The Bad & The Ugly and A Few Dollars More.

personally I find Fine Time to be an agressive song. There's just something about the beat in that song.
