DVD Boxset at HMV

Hello,

HMV online has their exclusive box set for £18.99 and they now also have free delivery - when did they start offering that?

From the description it seems you ONLY get the videos, no extras, no NO-story. SSeriously thinking of cancelling and wandering round to HMV

Correct, the box set (which is essentially an outer packaging that has the 'Item' artwork - similar to that of the US release) contains both 'Collection' AND 'New Order Story'.

THIS IS ONLY AVAILABLE FROM HMV!!! :)

You can, of course, buy both DVD's seperately (from Play, or wherever), but you won't get the outer slipcase!!!!

Got Item from HMV - the discs are NTSC format. Is this true for the single disc versions, or is the Item box a US import?

I just got mine (24.99 in store hmv....joy, 6 quid for the privilege of giving my money to some spotty chav.)

I'll be watching on a computer, in linux so I don't really care if it IS Never Twice the Same Color or not.....but anyone with a PAL-only tv and video is gonns be well pissed off.

When you say they are NTSC format does this mean they are Region 1 as well ?

I have the HMV set on order but my DVD player is not multi-region. I think my TV/Player can cope with NTSC but not region 1 discs. I could watch the stuff on my computer but would prefer to sit in the lounge on my comfy new leather sofa!!

I just had a look at HMV at it says there that the DVDs are NTSC and region 2,3,4 and 5.

Oh and it ships in 10 days - it only came out yesterday for God's sake.

Disc`s are indeed NTSC-not PAL. They are region 2,but NewOrderStory is VHS quality at best.

Nah its strange that one. Its Got the Item sleeve,but it actually says (if you look closely) A Collection. Just the one disc.

I just got mine and they are region 1 also ,i havent got a multi region player either!

Nice addition to the collection tho. means that i will have to go and spunk another £30 on no story & a collection,i hope to fook the promo dvds of the above i bought are region two or i WILL CRY !

Chances are all and every one of the DVDs in the UK will be NTSC as this appears to be a growing trend for music DVDs. Recently got Rufus Wainwright's full length DVD and Saint Etienne's Finisterre - both from different labels but both NTSC. Could be two reasons for this:

1. No need to produce a PAL version, just ship NTSC worldwide.
2. When film (shot at 24 frames per second) is transferred to PAL (25fps), there is a speed up of 4% applied to the material (NTSC conversion doesn't suffer the speed problem, just a motion one). Obviously this is undesirable for music releases. But how many music videos are shot on film? Not many, I'll bet.

It's especially irritating given that NewOrderStory and virtually all the videos were probably shot with PAL video anyway, so the conversion to NTSC and then back to PAL (if you're in the UK) will just make it look cack.

Never mind the fact that many people in the UK can't playback NTSC even if their DVD player is multi-region, a lot of older TVs don't like it.

TO whoever makes these decisions - poor show.

Why cant they just release dv fookin d's in ONE format would make things a lot easier!

I aint got the promos yet so dont know what region they are,but anyways if i buy nostory + collection then that means i have them in TRIPLICATE!

If your DVD player outputs NTSC and your tv plays NTSC then there is no double conversion. Most modern TVs play NTSC, it's whether your DVD has a built in converter, which is more common on the cheaper players.

I held the box in my hand in Watford today but didn't think to look at things like format and region code.

Fuck this NTSC shite, i just ordered mine from HMV and im gonna cancel it. id rather pay a bit more from amazon without an extra sleev but with decent picture quality.

You do realise, of course, that the single DVD's are also NTSC? :)

on amazon the spec on the separate DVDs say they are PAL.

Well, the seperate ones at Virgin are NTSC... :)

the MOSt annoying thing is that NTSC is a crap standard, despite it's higher framerate.

I'm too scared to look at NO-story, scared it'll look like American TV, orange people and wtf-coloured sky.

Guess we really are a 3rd world country now, having no standard of ourn own any more...I suppose TV will be downgraded to NTSC too soon.

BTW, someone asked why they can'y just release one format. Well, there are 3 TV systems in wide use.....apart from that tho there is no technical reason. The region code system was devised PURELY and SOLELY to enable certain countrue to maintain artificialy high prices. Welcome to rip-off britain.

I think NTSC discs should have a huge red label saying... "you may have to purchase expensive, inferior foreign equipment to view this DVD" Would be interesting to see how many of THOSE they'd sell.

EDIT: I was just thinking, the way broadcasting standards are treated in the UK, what HMV are doing is almost certainly ilegal.
