he would have quit joy division in '82 and gone to run a cafe in altringham.

Bit of an odd question because its something that can never be answered.

It's an interesting 'what if' though... I think Ian would have had a break down, unless he had got serious help; he would then have left the group and we'd have New Order maybe...

Or... if he did get successful therapy they may have gone on and on and become something like U2, which I know a lot of NO fans would hurl over, but I reckon that's what might have happenned...

It's ALTRINCHAM to you sunshine!

You don't spell BABYGHAM with a "G" do you??! :D :D

Anyway, back to the subject matter and question: If Ian hadn't topped himself, I doubt The Cure would have gone on to have an increasingly successful career the way they did right afterwards.... ;)

No. Even Joy Divisions constant flirtation with right wing imagery could never out do Nicholas Winterton.

Gillian would still be on the dole, and Phil would still be selling dodgy kebabs outside Dry ay 4am on a wet, cold and windy sunday morning. Oh,and we`d be up to our 8 JD best of...

Who knows what road he would have taken. Quit band? Prison? Carried on and JD would not have made so good as music as first 2 albums. No answer is there.

granted, you're the man around here when it comes to discussing british politics (i've no idea who nicholas winterton is), but ian was a tory after all. you never know--remember, our god-fearing republican prez was once an alcoholic who snorted cocaine and has a police record. people change....

As Stephen says, they would have gone the same path that NO did. He was into Kraftwerk, and when recording LWTUA, he was listening to Sparks.

Why not? maybe he would've left Lancashire and settled in Yorkshire, Halifax for instance

JD would have been the better U2. You know without the stupid sunnies, and the political grandstanding, and made better music as well.

Hannett night have quit smack, ended up getting his fantastic new studio & Fairlight instead of Manchester getting the Hac, as Ron put it above, JD would have kept shitting all over U2 & Mad Bob would probably be on the dole.

i think if mr.curtis didnt fuck off he would confined to a mental ward. Perhaps not, today their is better medication for his condition.

Anyhow, he was doomed from the start so this question is foolish.

Isn't macclesfield in cheshire?

If he hadn't topped himself he would have died pretty soon after being buried.

Or, he could have gone on to be an assistant manager at Booths supermarket in penwortham, hang on that's my boss again!!!
