The obsolete New Order Substance and Neworderstory Videocassettes... should we keep them in a box somewhere until we die or just throw these crappy videocassettes in the rubbish?

The market dictates that they're now almost worthless. They may have some sort of cult collectors' cache in future years.

Personally I like collecting all the old videos, most of which I also have on DVD now. They look good on the collection shelf! Still chasing a few of the older promo video cassettes.

Keep them. they will deterirate in time, but at least you'll have some nice covers. Myself I only have The Best Of on VHS. I did get a few copied over from shergs, like NOStory, Pumped, HATYM. I do actually wish I had those.

they're only worth ten bob a throw now, hang on to them you must for nostalgia only!

When I finally get round to dumping my old vids at the charity shop these two and a few other music vids are the only ones I'll keep...

I think you should all dump them today. They're worthless. :\ohwell:

Bloody good question actually.. I was wondering the same thing.

I own NewOrderStory, Pumped Full Of Drugs, Substance 1989, and Academy (Original Saville sleeve). Obviously the first three are taken care of on DVD now (PFD* DVD from Japan, cool item! ) but Academy hasn't been re-released and doesn't look likely to be, it's a bit dated in the way it's presented. The sound of the gig was quite good so I did my own VHS to CD bootleg of it which only gets a very occasional listen, Dreams Never End was gutted by a Hooky interview popping up.

I wouldn't say they're worth alot but I'm going to hold onto mine for collecting's sake. Like DC I'm still after a few, notably the original Taras Shevchenko and Here Are The Young Men. Not so bothered about promo cassettes for individual singles, unless they're going for pennies. I have all the Monaco promo VHS cassettes for their singles (obviously :D)

NewOrderStory VHS on eBay for £499 opening bid anyone?

Incredibly,WH Smith in Chester had a copy of Substance 1989 on VHS in the january sales for £3.99 at the beginning of the year. I have however NEVER seen PFD or Taras Shevchenko in any shop,i got mine from a friend second hand-which he bought when they were new out 20 years + ago! Id say the tapes may be money wise, worthless. But youd probably never find them again.

Defintely not valueless with the Substance VHS. It has a certain atomosphere to it that lends to New Order's "distant/mysterious" image (at least at that time) with the True Faith leaf floating between videos and the Happy One playing in the background.

I still intend to keep mine. I think the covers is worth keeping (as Ron Kitsch said) and its interesting to see how the designs are re-configured to match those VHS box (like elongated REPUBLIC cover for NO story) and PFD is a neat design. I even have the Jap. VHS version of PFD - similar cover to the DVD one ( btw, I bought the PFD Jap version last year at HMV Shinjuku - how apt!!! ...but couldn't find that Koiseinikin Hall though, does it still exist? ) I also have both ACADEMY VHS - Saville cover & later version, so I guess I better keep them as I've invested so much effort in acquiring them. The only thing I'm missing is the UK version of HATYM VHS, comes in cardboard box - mine is the AUS standard VHS case version. Anybody want VHS tape of 'M-People live' or 'SNAP-Rhythm is A Dancer Hits'? They are still sealed.....unopened gift from those embarrassing 90's period :D

Money-wise they're worth about a pound each - they're usually listed on EBay and half the time don't sell.

They will increase in value (give them five to ten years) but by then, few people will have something to play them on. They'll be items for collection completists - hold on to them for sentimental value only :thumb:

Wasn't Academy recorded for some AIDS charity?

I read a review in Q back in 95, and they slated it.

Any thoughts.

Although I'm glad to see all the new information, I think the extended 'NewOrder Story' is overlong, while the US VHS edit is a much tighter film (especially if you want to show it to non New Order heads).

The covers for 'Schevchenko' and 'PFD' are wonderful - some of Saville's best art.

C'mon most of us don't have VCRs already.

In 10 years to find a VCR will be like to find a 78rpm player with a working needle. :skeptic:

I'm seriously thinking of smashing my American VHS of "NewOrderStory" with a hammer. I really got pissed when I discovered that this is an incomplete version and I have paid a lot of money for it. I'll be posting here the pictures of the video being smashed if I do so.

I think you got the version that was shown on TV over here the same night as the Reading 93 concert
