Seeking advise from JD experts....

I am trying to decide on what to invest in:

a. Heart and Soul Box Set or b. Purchasing individual JD CD releases.

I currently own the following JD items:

1. Unknown Pleasures on Audio Casette
2. Closer on Vinyl
3. Substance on Audio Casette
4. Still on CD
5. Permenant on CD

I would like to get a definitive collection of JD on CD format, which would include Warsaw items and a good live recording other than the one one Still.

For the JD experts out there, what would you feel is the best way to go? What would be the best live performance to get a hold of? Any help would be great. Thanks!

If you are a big fan, I recommend H&S. Yes both albums are on it, plus singles, some stuff from the unreleased album (availiable seperately as Warsaw boot), and some live stuff. For someone strating their JD cd collecion, I'd say its a must.

You should get the vinyl Warsaw demos album (with added synth that the band didn't like) and has the best version of No Love Lost. Then the box set CDs has everything else. After this you're an expert.

Then check the quality of some bootlegs if you want some more live stuff. There are quite a few each good depending on the individual's fanaticism.

Ah bugger slight posting problem, there was a dodgy connection.

Yes, get the Warsaw (unofficial) CD. It has the first Warsaw demos (crap), plus the unreleased debut album recorded for RCA (interesting stuff, like the very slow version of Transmission).

As for live shows, I've heard at least one source from almost all existing recordings and the most obvious ones for sound quality are the officially released ones: Preston has great sound but is a chaotic show, then Les Bain Douches is a good long set (though part of the officially released album is taken from Eindhoven 1980). That said, the other two most common high quality boots (other than Birmingham U) are Effenar, Eindhoven and Paradiso, Amsterdam. There are some other really good shows out there as well, like Ajanta Theatre, Lyceum Theatre, etc.

Thanks guys! I think I will hunt down a copy of Heart and Soul, and keep an eye out for the Warsaw CD.

I have almost all of JD records including heart and soul. For me the most import fact in H&S is... Heart and Soul has got the only known realesed version of In a Lonely Place with Ian Curtis singing and a ceremony version (different form the still one).

Definitely get HEART & SOUL. Throw in the WARSAW CD and the FRACTURED box set featuring both the Preston and Les Baines Douches official gigs.

I thought all the gigs they played were official
