Good evening everybody, I wonder if you could help me out here. Some of my mates aren't that sure about NO, even those around the age of 30, i.e. who know of them from their own youth. So, I'm going to burn a 'Huntsman Best of NO for the Laclustre Fan' CD prior to the upcoming gigs (some mates might be coming along). This 'Best of' has to be good... and this is my definitive list.

Comments please, and remember, I've only got 65 minutes of CD time, and they won't listen to more than 1 CD... yet.

  1. Regret
  2. Crystal
  3. Sub-Culture (original 12")
  4. Leave Me Alone
  5. Temptation
  6. Round and Round (Technique version)
  7. Vanishing Point
  8. 1963
  9. Dream Attack

1 CD, 65 minutes. I can't get the kitchen sink on the CD so no place for fifteen 12"s or 27 Re-mixes.

Sebsy, I fucking slipped on the post topic button before I had a chance to put a bastard title on it. I was going to call it 'Help' - so its just as well it got labelled 'no subject'

Well, Sebsy can't help you much on this.

Actually you can edit the topic and your message by hitting the "edit/delete message" icon inside your own message.. (only the first one will give you access to the subject)

I like the choices (specially 1963!)I dont know what you should leave off but think you should put in some of the following......

State of the Nation, (stonking track) Love Vigilantes (always liked by my mates who arent fans...) World (same as above) Touched by the Hand of God The Perfect Kiss

Just a few to add to the list

(After Monday we can comment on which Get Ready tracks to include! lol)

Depends of your friends...

The songs that got me into New Order:

  • True Faith (Morning Sun Extended Remix)
  • Bizarre Love Triangle (Shep Pettibone Remix)
  • Round & Round (Extended Version)
  • Electronic's Getting Away With It

The tape was full of other stuff, it took me a while to like them all, especially In A Lonely Place

Yeah, that tape was done by Sebastien.. I'm pretty sure I still have it.

Well I've always wanted to be a pair of balls.

Marco, 1963 edit from '95, I hate to say it but, I sneakily do prefer this to the original (don't panic followers - I still pioneer the hate re-mix campaign). I might have to replace the original 12" with this... its got something about it hasn't it.

It seems that my choices are very in tune with everyone. It was difficult keeping out True Faith and BLT - Nic the Blank - thanks for edit tips, however, your suggestion of Getting Away with It deserves court martial.

Sonic Mike Run 2 is a superb entry, I might have to take something out to cram that little bastard in, the original Run is too long and time is the key here. This Time of Night, you've got to be a devotee for this, its tremenduous, but there are some things you have to keep to yourself eh!?

The Perfect Kiss 12" I listened to in my car ont he way into work this morning, it nearly brought me to tears... but I'll have to give Sub-Culture the nod, this did bring me to tears.

Keep 'em coming, I'm burning very soon.

Liv - TBTHOG is class, but its a song you can only 'feel' the intensity with live.

Huntsman, I still think that Love Vigilantes should get a look in.

My best mate dislikes my music taste, but when she comes over to mine she always ends up singing LV for days....

Its funny, she was doing it yesterday.....

Its one of those songs that gets into your head, and for trying to preach to the non beleivers, something they will remember is a must.

Love Vigilantes is a unique song, granted, it was one of the first NO songs that got me hooked. But Liv, Liv, what could you possible take out of the starting 9?

Skip R&R; add AOC.

My suggestion would be to leave out Round and Round.... stonking song, but i think LV is just a bit more stonking for this actual occasion....

If I had to make a CD, here is what I would take from each album:

Dreams Never End Your Silent Face / Leave Me Alone The Perfect Kiss / Subculture Bizarre Love Triangle / All Day Long Round & Round / Run Regret / Special Crystal / Turn My Way

Alright.. 13, but that fits on a CD ;)

Blue Monday anyone? I know you can get a bit bored of it eventually but it still is a cracker...also the one all my non NO associates like the best.

I'd probably chuck in Procession if I had a spare 5 minutes to add to the previous suggestions

I agree about Procession. From Nicolas' list, i would replace Dreams Never End with Procession and Leave Me Alone with 5-8-6 (razormaid) and finish the compilation with Vicious Streak for a quiet ending or Someone Like You if the recipient is a bit pop oriented.

I am the heart? How sweet :)

Anyway, I wanted to give the list of the songs I would put on a CD:

  1. Atmosphere (for some history and it would start off a CD well)
  2. Temptation (the original, not the 98 version. That song is a classic for me and a must on any NO CD)
  3. Don't do it (you have to have a couple b-sides, besides everyone knows how I feel about this song :p )
  4. Your Silent Face (this is a really smooth track)
  5. Ruined In a Day (one of my favorites)
  6. Regret (a classic forever!)
  7. Special (to tone down the mood)
  8. Behind Closed Doors (I think it is one of the best b-sides)
  9. Haystack (from back in the days, a funny song)
  10. Love Vigilantes (I have always loved that song)
  11. Turn my way (something new with wonderful lyrics)
  12. Last but not least: Love will tear us apart (not New Order but a Joy Division classic)

That is what kind of CD I would make, somewhat of a mixture old to new.

Now this is not a one liner Seb :)

  1. Age of Consent
  2. Ceremony
  3. Blue Monday
  4. Temptation
  5. Bizarre Love Triangle
  6. Every Little Counts
  7. Way Of Life
  8. All Day Long
  9. Run
  10. Lonesome Tonight
  11. Love Vigilantes
  12. Thieves Like Us
  13. Regret
  14. Love Less

Well, this is the tracklisting of a CD I made 2 years ago for a friend who didn't really know about New Order... Afterwards, he was hooked. Most of the songs are very directly emotional...

Can't believe I had forgotten "Your Silent Face" though...

Some curious CD's out there - Geoff, have you got the world's only everlasting blank CD? - 65 minutes I've got to work with... Blue Mondays about 15.

Right - after due consideration and actual listening as I compile... here is the definitive CD track listing from which I intend to gather more fans:

  1. Sub-Culture
  2. Regret
  3. Crystal
  4. Temptation '98
  5. Leave Me Alone
  6. Run 2
  7. 1963 '95
  8. Round and Round
  9. Vanishing Point
  10. Dream Attack

This should please even the filthiest individual with no apparent styling to his or her life.

The burning commences this evening. Based on the above, please, take what out for what?

Are the blank CDs shorter in GB or what ? Here, in Belgium, the regular length is 74 minutes, and some clock to a comfortable 80 minutes...

... and my selection fits onto a 74 minutes one as I actually made that CD, as I said earlier

my thoughts ofr such a CD

  1. Sunrise
  2. Dream Attack
  3. Everyone everywhere
  4. Ceremony
  5. Age of Consent
  6. Special
  7. Regret

  9. This time of night 10.Every second counts 11.Ruined in a day 12.Crystal
