New Order cover New Order

Does anyone else think NO should cover a song from one of their side projects? I think they would chart really high especially as WDYWFM, Vivid, and Forbidden City are better than just about anything NO have released!

in essence i doubt NO has full rights to any side project work

Why not just re-release them then? Nowt to be gained by covering them, and the chances are that there would only be some kind of animosity in the recording, as there was animosity that led to the songs even being written in the first place!

I am saying Vivid or WDYWFM would almost definitely have been no1 if released by NO.

cause then david potts & johnny marr would want their cut and i doubt the band would give it to them while not performing the songs.

But you hadn't actually thought about any of the hurdles that would have to be overcome before recording/releasing them. They don't need the hassle!

Forbidden sounds like Menswear. Vivid is a great tune thought. Pointless to cover these songs though as NO arent musically any different/better than side projects. Same chords and notes and key.

They should do more of their own songs

They've only once ever done a set longer than 110 minutes, and that was only 115! Let's get through the two hour barrier before we start thinking about three hour sets!

I've got an idea. its a bit far out mind. What they could do is learn how to play their own songs and go out and do a proper fucking tour.

Can't say I'm a fan of Vivid but if (infintely) better songs like Blue Monday, True Faith, Regret and Crystal didn't make no.1, then why should this?!

I second that, but I think they just did this tour as an experiment because they don't create much buzz other than with die hard fans so I think they wanted to do the major cities where they've had success and then go from there with the next album.

I don't know if touring is as much fun to them at 50 then it was when they were in their 20s.

Or they could just get back together with their side project bandmates and do some one-off Greatest Hits gigs. The closest thing to a fantasy i've let myself have is all the groups reforming and 'opening' for New Order in a show of solidarity/burying the hatchet rather.

This'll never happen though because: A) Johnny Marr has his own life now B) Dave Potts has his own life now C) The Other Two performing live is as likely as a Smiths reunion D) No one in NO could be arsed to play twice in a row (Thrice for Hooky if you want to split hairs!) E) Even acknowledging the existence of their old side projects would be like airing dirty laundry on your front porch. It would be a tad awkward to be playing your hit singles, most of which, lyrically, are thinly-veiled snipes at your 'former' groupmates (who are now watching you on the sidelines, not to mention playing with you at the end of the night)

Another idea i've had were the sideprojects remixing each others' singles, but that's really more of a MFP topic.
