i really cant think of a bad Jd song. Maybe least favorite such as the ice age.

The worst is what is mostly crap on the 'Warsaw' bootleg.

Autosuggestion is great by the way.

This thread should be retitled 'The least good of Joy Division' because JD proper never did anything bad in the studio. At this stage, I like NO more, but JD never had silly or pointless tracks like 'Sate of the Nation'.

Passover and I Remember Nothing

Surely the early Warsaw tracks like Gutz are the worst ones. But if we're going with proper "Joy Division" tracks, I'd have to pick From Safety to Where, Autosuggestion (only because of Hannett's production, the live versions rock), Candidate, and They Walked in Line.

I'm actually quite fond of Walked in Line and The Kill. Ice Age isn't bad either, at least it's got some bang to it.

Autosuggestion is fairly boring, but it does grind to quite a nice climax. Exercise one is much worse. I've never been too fond of Dead Souls, but I suspect I'll get lynched if I mention it - never sounded particularly Joy Division-y to me.

Love Sound Of Music, about the only track that I don't actively seek out to play would be From Safety To Where? Don't really hate any JD, that one would be my least favourite of the lot.

Yeah,what Green said. I'd add The Eternal to that list but I would not describe it as "worst."

From Safety To Where is quality, arguably better than a couple of tracks the band kept on Unknown Pleasures.

The Eternal is brilliant as well. Passover does nothing for me and I dislike the recorded versions of Deal Souls and She's Lost Control.

Candidate is the one I like least, though I'll not be rushing to play These Days either. Failures completes the unholy trilogy.

The Sister Ray on Still is the only thing I can say I don't like.

They've obviously got a lot of slit your wrists tunes; these aren't bad, but you need to be in the right mood to take them on...

exactly - a lot of people have been complaining of 'negative threads', but i think we all agree that the worse of JD/NO is so much better than most others best. This thread and my 'Worst of NO' are only for fun and something to do... for the record i think the live stuff on Still is my worse of JD.

Nothing they did was awful, but two tracks don't really work for me.

1. Failures. A straight ahead thrash would be fine but Barney never nails the Stooges feel, and they don't really do anything interesting with the rest of the song to compensate.

2. Exercise One. Not terrible, but never catches fire.

I love the irony. "Cheer Up" and were discussing the "worse of Joy Divison".

Anyway Ill get off my high horse. Except to say that I think quite a few JD songs sound unfinished. Lack of chorus's, same chord sequence throughtout songs, etc.

I for one really like 'Komakino' and 'These Days'...early New Order seems to stem from these tracks as much as they do from 'Isolation' and 'Decades'.

I dont know why i dont like it but "these day's". First heard it on the b side of LWTUA and just never realy got to grips with it. I always seem to skip this track now but i realy cant put my finger on the reason why.:\ohwell:

Hello from Germany, the only song I skip is "Failures of the Modern Man". Apart from this, I'm not able to not like everything they ever did, the magic is always there, even in Songs like Gutz and Inside the Line.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "The Only Mistake" so i will... er... have. Absolute turgid crap.

I can recall Brian Edge (who wrote Pleasures & Wayward Distractions, the excellent JD/NO history) describing Novelty as "slovenly heavy metal" but it's pretty damned good nontheless in my opinion. I don't think they ever committed anything truly abymsal to tape.

Certainly the Warsaw and dead early stuff is a bit ragged but then everyone starts somewhere. That a band can go from (say) Failures to Transmission and then to Atmosphere within a few short years is awesome. Their legacy is solid gold compared to that of most bands.

Thank God! I'm a big FSTW fan as well, Hooky and Steve in particular are brilliant on this track. In terms of officially released/recorded output, JD were pretty sold, there's not much bad stuff there at all. My least loved JD fave might be Komakino, but by the barest of margins. CTB

These two are on my nerves (the original album versions). Oddly enough, I feel that way only for the last 5 years. When I first heard the albums they were alright to me
