Does anyone know the font used on the Singles album?

not too sure about the font but have a look at this Bill Holding Thread.
Bill Holding was involved in the design but not the font of singles, and other stuff. He's a fellow NOOLer and a bit of a good egg. you may be able to email him.
BTW, if the t-shirt says "young free and single" in the singles font, I'll be first to slap you!

Morph seem to do the tricky 3d rendering for Peter Saville. I would have thought that they did the leaf and had nothing at all to do with the Type.
Id say the best place to find out would be the forums on typophile. They love a go at stuff like that.
Scan in the cover of singles, and line up the words "new order" and "singles" beside each other. Give it as good a resolution as you can, and post up the JPEG onto the forum. Ask the question in the title "What is this wierd Typeface" and you should have a question in under 3 seconds from some type-geek.
Then, get onto the old bear share, and search out the type (it may even be a free one). Once downloaded go to start>control panel> Fonts and drag the type file (probably a TTF) into the fonts folder.
Not yet, but i have emailed Howard at Saville associates to find out for you. I was actually curious myself, so i will post a reply shortly. Bill
As you can read on my Bill Holding interview the font was made by Paul Barnes, who also designed the font for Bjork Pagan Poetry and co-designed the font for The Guardian. I love it and I've never seen anything like that, given the creative attitude of the author, it's probably a font he's just created, we just have to know its name.
As you would expect Mick is on the money with the name of the font's creator, Paul Barnes. The name of the font is
"Dala Moa"
and it may have been a special, so i am guessing you might not find it online, and alas i don't have it either, as i am only responsible for the artwork. Anyway at least we all know what it is called now. Hope that helps.

The boys over on typophile will be able to reference a very similar one for sure anyhow.
Stencil fonts look so tacky anyway. That was a completely shite usage of such a typeface on the cover of singles. Just horrible.
Uhmmm... it's not quite stencil... it's neither a classic Serif like Substance... looks like a mix of the two, that's why I like it, I wouldn't like it if it was one or the other, I like the different look of this font... you'd never say it would have been made with a stencil, like all those really tacky stencil fonts fake (usually on records by crap American rock bands), it looks more like a design evolution of the serif font, with all the elements detached... it's great, one of the best fonts on a New Order album, not to mention it's always better than the usual Helvetica one, which didn't look bad, but I hope it has made its time by now...
By the way, no trace on the web of a Dala Moa font, the only search result is this, looks like Polish, Turkish or something... Bill, if you ever get in touch with Paul Barnes please ask me why he chose such a name... ultra geek question, I know ;)
