Both 3rd singles off their respective albums. Both vinyl only releases 'for the fans'. But which one do you prefer?

For me it's WFTSC. With that single they crafted such a classic New Order sound that played to all their individual strengths. It's endlessly melodic and really catchy (I think Mr Discography also mentioned this in an earlier thread) I like the instrumentation in Run and the ambient ending but I find Barney's lyrics even more cringeworthy than usual (Work your way to the top of the world then break your life in two? :wtf:) so it pales next to WFTSC for me. Having said that both singles do have a similar sort of summery vibe.

So one vote for WFTSC here but it'll be interesting to see what everyone else has to say. I think alot of fans may not yet have accepted WFTSC as being a 'classic New Order track' but who knows :thumb:

Run 2 for me. In my opinion, which is certainly not very popular here, WFTSC is a very overrated song, and quite boring after a while.

tough call, but i'll go for WFTSC, though Run 2 has purdy synths.

I am a bit bored of WFTSC at the moment. But i`ll rediscover it at some point like i always do with their songs. So i'll vote for Run 2 .

quite difficult choice. I'll go with Run because its prettier and the video is ace.

I voted for RUN, but I'm looking forward to the 4th single!

the part where barney shows his moves always makes me laugh.

Yeah that is funny.I just love the way the guy sits at the table chuckling one minute then deep in thought the next. And the girl`s dancing is great also. But she should be more careful of dancing in the middle of the road.

run 2 was a weak stab at a already overrated track.

Run 2 for me..

Yeah, Run2 for me too - loved the video, and the washing powder-style sleeve, as well as the Scott Litt remixes...

Takes me back to when I was teenager! :)

Run (rather than the Run2 original single cut) has a much better ending than WFTSC - that was still when New Order had big endings and small dicks, wasn't it? :D

i never thought of that. NO dont really have monster endings anymore.

WFTSC. i love run 2, but the latter is my choice. i think it's the chorus that does it for me, as well as hooky's bass.

The Monaco track "Kashmere" (off the second album) has the same Hooky bass riff as "Run" on its verses. It's a great track too - imo the best on that album, which is sadly not as good as "Music For Pleasure".

I've been around for a while saying Run is my favorite New Order song ever, so it's kind of a no brainer....

However I love WFTSC... but it doesn't have the John Denver riffs

Run is a tune but I've never got it when I've heard people say it's one of their greatest.

WFTSC is just sublime. Funnily enough, I didn't get it at first but it has grown and grown with every listen. One of their best ever singles. The Rich Costey mix is just as good.

I agree entirely. Ive never got into WFTSC. It just plods along, the chorus comes in at the wrong time, the guitar riff is naff, the keyboards sound like some cheap casio thing and Barneys voice is all over the shop.

Run 2 is great though. Off my all time favourite album and I never get tired of playing it. great vocals, bass, drums, keyboard and guitar riff is one of Barneys best.

i like them both but for me its Run2, its one of my Fav NO Tracks, WFTSC to me is a Track i had to settle for on Album i did'nt Like too much

Whenever I get a chance to vote against something from Technique (other than VP), I will.

I've never been fond of Run 2 (the album version is even better).

But WFTSC is topnotch, no doubt :thumb: It's not edgy, yet it's very beautiful.

I meant Rich Costey's mix is just as good as the album version! :p

Run2- still love it.

re; 'work your way to the top of the world; then you break your life in two'- I like this lyric... means getting success and then going self-destructive to me... probably a reference to the drug addling going on at the time...

WFTSC is overrated; Who's Joe? & Guilt would be better single choices IMHO.

What's the definitive Run2 ?

Is it 'Run' or is that dodgy limited-edition 'Run' with a beat behind it that sounds like it's been stuck on by a 12 year old?

Technique 'Run' first, then WFTSC, then the Run breakbeat aberration.

Going on the album versions is probably best :) I just put "Run 2" 'cos it was the name of the single. But strictly speaking the definitive Run 2 is the 7" version from the 12" single, it's an edit with slightly harsher sounding snare hits. The dodgy one you mention is the Extended mix which is more of a remix (a bad one IMO) with that totally out of place breakbeat.

The place to get a copy of the definitive Run 2 is by ripping the digital soundtrack of the video from A Collection DVD. We only had it on vinyl until that DVD came out.

Having said all that the Technique version is probably the best!

I say again I see no difference in the the 2 edits of WFTSC and I think the remix is crap.

The original Run was a good song but IMHO much overrated and not worthy of doing a Run 2 which was very weak.

Feel me????

I agree that there seems no difference between Rich Costey mix and album version.

Everything on Technique, except VP, is "much overrated."

run by far. the synth melody/rock aesthetic that new order displayed on brotherhood and lowlife is exemplified in this track. the break gives the song another dimension and comes full circle at the end. divine stuff. the synths still give me chills 16 years later.

Too difficult, I really love both but I voted for WFTSC to give that song another chance

Ah Pats, you're just being needlessly controversial here.

Run2 beats WFTSC hands down. No contest

wow...Im surprized R2 is winning....even though I've always loved the the extended version....I have the orig vinyl.
it doesnt have the inexplicable edge that makes a GREAT NO song.

BUT...I think WFTSC is seriously CLASSIC New Order and so it gets my vote...even WITHOUT a big ending.

just me

Run is always such an emotional and sad track for me, rather derivative but beautiful nonetheless, the peak of Technique for me

WFTSC isn't as distinctive to me

really baffles me about the Run2 video.... really lazy concept and execution... Barney does look really fucked up which i guess is funny, but what are these people pointing at from the bridge or whatever.... the girl dancing like an autistic orphan in the street? the lonely old guy looking back on how much his life sucked? i don't get it
