Urban outfitters-Unknown pleasures

Went shopping with friend and discovered Urban outfitters selling sleevess lady t shirt with the identical image used on Unknown pleasures. Tried to spot on it their website but only could find the movement new order t shirt. Strange, indeed. Urban outfitters is crap that packages retro looking clothes, and ironic t shirts and charges outregeous prices. Its also owed by a major republican monetary contributer.

The other week i went to see 'grizzly man' by herzog and punky looking girl working ticket booth girl ask me about my 'unknown pleasures' tshirt that i was wearing at the time. she had no clue who Jd was. She said it looked very familar and now i know why!!!

Gap, the official indie-kid outfitter, plays NO on the PA all the time (I admit that sometimes I go in there just to listen to their playlists). I also bought a circa-1979 Steve Morris shirt in there once, complete with massive collar and fat white stripes. It seems as if it were almost meant to be worn sticking out from one of their hipster throwback cardigans.

I saw a black man in a McDonalds wearing a Closer t-shirt. I asked him if he knew what it was. He said he did not.

i didnt make it clear, the aformentioned UO shirt has no mention of JD on it. I guess their just ripping it off, just like JD did .I'm i correct?

Dude, all the stuff I just read above is a total representation of how pop culture in the States has gone to shit.

I remember how, for example, someone who wanted to have a goth image in the 80s and early 90s had to go to lengths to 'create' their own style: find clothes, music-related apparel and basically, make their own style.

Now it's all pre-packaged at Hot Topic and these sorry bitches think they're the real deal - it's sickening. That's why, over the last 10 years, I've gotten so deep into the house/trance EDM scene. I used to buy indie rock records and stuff from time to time but, please, most of these kids are fake as fuck. Now I understand what the old punks who were there from 1979-1983 were bitching about.

The realm of EDM has gotten so broad and diverse, it's a waste of time for me to buy Franz Ferdinand and Tortoise and !!! (chk chk chk) records anymore. Let the American white middle-class yuppies lap up that shit. F**king Bush supporters.

I never was an anything, I just listenned to what I liked and wore what I liked, pretty much still do. While passed out outside a happy mondays gig, some guy said "what's with the goth", my mate said "he's not a goth he's a joy div fan", chap just said "ahh that's different". Truth be told, I dress as badly as any member of New Order. I think the off the shelf counter-culture thing really kicked off with "grunge". Instead of wearing some of your ma's worn out old clothes like you;re meant to....go buy designer trashy gear for n00 bucks. It's a frightening situation when "da man" co-opts the very people and cultures usually asociated with giving him a wedgey. Packaged rebellilon like Marylin Manson (who's music I often find rather interesting, and who, it must be remembered, are not any kind of serious band, they are just trent resner's monkey for the music industry's back), and that oxygen wasting little cocksucker eminemememenmememem, or all the endless "skating is cool even tho I'm 47" metal bansd ( you can hear it now..."I think we should skate-ify you're image by 18% for the next album, we predict a 45% sales upturn in the 14-25 fucktard demographic)

Keep and eye on sospubs.co.uk until the october issue goes online, there's a great piece in it from Brian Eno, in between gear porn dribbling, he has a damned fine rant about the state of popular music, and when that's coming from someone who's never seen the charts in his own right, it's pretty serious.
