No news, just conjecture - and given the confusion surrounding the release of WFTSC, it's highly unlikely that the band or Warners know either. Until the single is in your hands (assuming it is released), doubt everything.
But I reckon there will be a low-key release sometime in December to push Singles back up the charts in time for December 25 or - less likely - a post-Christmas release. I believe the UK singles chart is at its quietest in January after the Christmas rush, making it easier for singles with lower sales volumes to chart (although most record companies have probably cottoned onto this by now).
But a decent (as in well-organised) campaign backed by some good reviews and live gigs and a well-timed launch might push the single higher than WFTSC. A decent enough tune, a known band, some news following the gigs and their inclusion into the pantheon of rock greats... it could happen.
That is, of course, assuming it is released at all. I don't think its inclusion on Singles - even in edited form - guarantees it will make it. Although the sheer number of unreleased mixes of various tunes that are doing the rounds suggests momentum is building.
