From what I've briefly transcribed, the gist of it is that the brassy lasses are heading stateside to seduce, kidnap and coerce all the unsuspecting college boys into havin' all their babies.......gulp!!!

Hmm, I've been lucky enough to avoid this whole Atomic Kitten thing, but good on Andy - he deserves any success he gets. :)

I remember when OMD used to put the spotlight on the tape machine because it was much better looking and far more interesting than the band, so I can see where you're coming from there!

We may have our faults, but we Yanks sent the Spice Girls packing in short order, and we'll do it again with Nuclear Pussy if we have to.

Come on everybody - OMD were regarded as cool once (even if Andy's dancing never was) - their first release was issued initially on Factory.. "Electricity".... and their first two or three LP's and the singles that came off them were alright. But later America started knocking on their door and they couldn't see the wood for the dollar signs......ah well....

I agree, and hope my post didn't sound sarcastic (and NOBODY who witnessed them live could ever deny Andy's dancing was utterly crap, erm, eclectic... ;))

Up to 'Dazzle Ships' they were brilliant, then became gradually more hit and miss much as you described, sadly...

Amy, would you agree that "Dazzle Ships" has to be one of the most strikingly brilliant album sleeve designs of any record in the 80's? I thought the artwork was a work of genius! Great enough to frame like some New Order ones we could mention!!

I do agree (and unlike most I simply *love* the album's contents too) - I have the cute green diecut one with little holes in it - strangely the cover turned blue on CD! :|

The original self-titled album also had a fabulous electric blue diecut sleeve with orange insert - another frameable thing if you remove the giant sticker slapped on it. Along with my 'Blue Monday' I guess I like sleeves with bits chopped out of them. :)

Where you from Amy BTW - Liverpool by any chance? - cos that's where most early-period OMD fans seem to be these days. Not many people in Middlesbrough at the time "got" OMD - so I felt like I was the coolest kid in class at the time when "Joan Of Arc" went ballistic...what a song!... and glad to hear you liked Dazzle Ships, cos everybody here absolutely fuckin hated it, including me mates at the time.... some good songs on it though, like "Silent Running", and why wasn't "RadioWaves" put out as a single instead of that horrid "Magic Roundabout" soundalike "Genetic Engineering" (a song that OMD have always left off their greatest hits LPs for some reason...)? Unlike you, you jammy so and so..I NEVER got that original first die-cut issue of the first album...I've seen it around at record fairs, but it's too much to fork out over 20 quid for a record I've already got in another version anyway - the only band that justifies that sort of expenditure and devotion is, you guessed it!!!

Hubert I've already mentioned I was in the OMD fan club age about 12, at the time I was addressing Martin. He and you have a lot in common ;) monitoring chart positions, Omd, how do you feel about fireworks?

Fireworks? - I fuckin love 'em mate! Me kid Gemma - she's only four, but me and my missus gave her sparklers to play with last year. We keep an eye out and she's really careful with them....but why the hell are you asking me about fireworks all of a sudden Hank? Wot's this gotta do with either OMD or New Order?? I'm baffled mate...

I'm a big OMD fan (I got a telling off from Andy McCluskey when I dared to slag of the useless Atomic Kitten ;)). I like pretty much all the OMD material and rate Sugar Tax as one of the finest albums they recorded.

As much as I *wish* I was in Liverpool, or pretty much anywhere not here for that matter, I am in fact stuck in Melbourne, Australia... :)

I don't know why I liked Dazzle Ships so much - even some of the cut up radio stuff still appeals... I don't despise GE, but know what you mean (maybe it's cos I love Magic Roundabout! :)) - even the video didn't make it to the compilation of clips...
