Couldn't help but notice who jacked the price up sky high. Again. He's either doing some serious bidding up for a mate, or he's made so much from his own unique brand of merchandise that he's got money to burn.

Nick King and myself luckily managed to grab the first two copies of this which appeared on eBay a few weeks ago and we only paid about 55 quid each which now seems to be a total bargain. Compared to this one anyway which is (I think?) the third Planet Funk CDR spotted to date. As Old Blue quite rightly says says the remix is nice, but not that nice!

I spotted an auction by him, or rather a 'Buy It Now! for £0.01' type announcement the other day in which he was desperately seeking any and all New Order promos, CDR acetates etc. No doubt to come up with his next cheapo project which he'll sell off at a tenner or more per disc. I'm all for unofficial fan releases but the amount of cash he's making off them (saw his True Faith boot going for close to £35 one time) is unnecessarily greedy 
Against eBay guidelines too.

He did once pop his head in here, claimed to have a "mega rare" video of some track (I forget which) from a video jukebox and wanted to know some details. What he was actually after was some embellishment for his eBay listing. don't think it sold - nor did the DVD-R copies he made of it.
Well, Somebody sent me the email of the guy on the press release that comes with the CD, I mailed him and he sent me one... for FREE.
Gee, that's a lot of money for a mix...
Don't take this the wrong way people- but some 'fans' have far too much fooking money & even fewer brain cells if you pay over a ton for 2 shite remixes -FACT :o

Don't take this the wrong way also :) but if you're not a collector you'll probably never understand. There's a lucrative market/demand for promotional items like these and in some cases they can be worth the cash. Especially if there are limited copies, the price will typically double or triple in the space of a few years and if you want, you can sell it on and make a nice profit. Also if you're selling as part of a complete collection, adding a CDR like this to your stash, and assuming it stays like gold dust, could earn you an extra hundred or two over what you would've got without it.
Having said all that, this auction was too rich for me this time. I was only willing to pay about £60-65 for this promo but thankfully got it for a tenner less than that a few weeks ago...
The cds are made out of titanium, surely. Personally blessed by the Pope and formerly handled lewdly by a band member, right?
I'm a completist as it were, but I keep my eye out for ungouged prices, thankyouverymuch. Oughta be ashamed. Isn't, but oughta be.

Me thinks it might be the time to sell my promo of Until the End of Time'. That bootlegger (and thats all he is) fiend Loobytony would probably be daft enough to shell out a ton 50.
Bring back the days of Record Collector when you got bollocked for selling 'live' vinyls etc..
It really bugs me that people are stupid enough to shell out on some bedroom production, when a polite e-mail to one of us would do the bizz instead.

Problem is, it's so easy to counterfeit those CDs that I wouldn't pay much for them.

Well this is the point isn't it? They must know it goes on, they must know there's money to be made, why not just make the mixes commercially available in some form?

While we are on the topic of EBay auctions, what about this item:
It looks like an official cardsleeve promo and in the picture, it appears that Singles is on the back too. I knew about the CD-R's, but not an official promo CD regarding these mixes. It could be a bootleg, but a well done one if it is (most bootleggers don't do cardsleeves due to costs).

Quite possibly genuine, however it is advertised as a Greek promo, and it's the second one that's been put onto ebay... At least with this one, the seller's put up a scan...
Do not ever go for the "promos" which are from sellers with either zero or little feedback, are often stated as "German Radio 1 Promos", with the sellers not accepting Paypal, but only Western Union Bidpay. These are bootlegs from Eastern Europe (despite the fact that they say location: United States), and could (possibly) be the same guy selling them.
As for Loobytony, it did make me laugh that he put in an auction (not selling anything), but willing to pay top whack for promos that he was (obviously) going to copy and sell the copies back on ebay... Oh, and he's also the same guy who manages to successfully sell bootleg 2xCD's of "Blue Monday" and "True Faith" remixes for much more than the starting price...
There's also another seller out there on ebay who sells multiple copies of the 5-track remixes promo for 5 quid "Buy It Now", which is a sham - should only be the price of a CDR plus postage...
Unfortunately, reporting these cnuts usually doesn't get them removed from ebay - requires someone like Warners/London...

Its all a bit circular though isn't it? You are prepared to pay this kind of money because other people are prepared to pay this kind of money or more to buy it from you. It begs the question of why anyone is prepared to pay this kind of money in the first place though?

I was only using that as an example. I'm not saying that I personally buy New Order items with the express purpose of selling them on but any collector would be lying if they said they didn't think of the cash/resell value of items they obtain. I hate having to pay large amounts for rare New Order stuff (I'm taking a break until the new year) but I have no control over what price is set, it just seems to happen and people are willing to pay for it. A good example is you buy a CD single on the week of release for £3.99 or whatever. Three or however many years later it turns out only a limited number were pressed and bingo, you have something potentially worth £50-£100. That appeals to some collectors.

It's collectable, plain and simple. Perhaps more collectable than other band item as it was only meant for distribution within a record label and also contains tracks unavailable on any public release. There is a demand to hear these tracks from the fans and so a bidding war ensues, some collectors are willing to pay silly amounts and that's obviously what happened with this WFTSC CDR. You'd be better emailing the guy who paid £125 for it, he'd know exactly why he paid so much!
