John Peel Tribute Single

‘Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve)?’ Various Artists

Catalogue Number – PEELCD 1 Release Date - 21st November, 2006

A new version of the famous Buzzcocks song, ‘Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve)?’ is being released this month as a tribute to John Peel who died just over a year ago. The proceeds from the single will be donated to Amnesty International, one of Peel’s favourite charities.

The track has been recorded by some of the artists he championed and admired: David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), Roger Daltry (The Who), Elton John, Peter Hook (New Order), The Futureheads, El Presidente and The Datsuns as well as The Buzzcocks themselves.

Elton John said, "It is always important to remember people who encouraged and helped you early in your career. The thing I loved about John was his passion for new music and his praise for things he totally believed in.”

Bloc Party who unfortunately could not play on the song due to touring commitments found a different way to contribute. Their bassist, Gordon Moakes, designed the sleeve artwork for the single.

The BBC broadcasted the radio premier for the John Peel tribute single on Monday 10th October. Radio 1, Radio 2, BBC Radio London, 6Music and all BBC regional station across the UK broadcasted the single simultaneously at 8:10am.

Channel 4 ran the world exclusive premiere of the promo video for the Single on Thursday 13th October – John Peel Day – at 11:05pm.

The single will be released on Monday 21st November on EMI.

But they didn't have Hooky...

I don't like it apart from Hooky who kicks in far too late to save it. They would have been better just re-releasing Undertones' "Teenage Kicks" as a tribute to Peely.

can anyone explain that cunt Elton John being anywhere near this. Very alternative, very underground, just the sort of person John gave a break to. not an opportunistic little richkid major label puppet who sucked cock to get to the top, not elton, no.

How DARE he lower john peel to level of that whore diana!!!!!!!! Candle up your hole you shitesucker

(before anyone yells at me about Di, may I please remind you that everyone hated her until she went splat, then got all lovey dovey over her.)

EDIT: i think you should asll follow my lead, I've now decided to carry a card at all times reading.....

"in the event of my death, please prevent that corpse feeding chutney ferret Elton John from getting famous by using it, and kill, dice and curry him if he tries"

Worst thing is, I bet some of the cash wouldn;t be going to him, so I might be conning a charity because some tard thought Mr top-40 was "very peel"

Not a bad version.

Robert Plant sounds terrible on it. I think his voice is gone.

Is that David Gilmour playing?

Doesn't Elton John's piano make it sound like 'I'm Still Standing'?

Actually I find it quite good.

Even Elton John doesn't sound bad ;)

And I realize that I know this tune, which I wasn't sure when I first heard about it... :thumb:

christ. some people don't like elton john... i didn't even hear him. didn't hear hook either. actually, the sound effects in the video obscure the entire song. it's got some energy... the version is okay.

C'mon, Hooky is evident on the instrumental break, when the girl is drawing Elton John on her wall...

I don't know if anybody found the New Order related things in the video, but the guy with the "show me your boobs" doll has a Procession polaroid on his wall.
