JD's "You're no good for me" unreleased 7" — Forum Archive

I have come across an apparently unreleased one-sided 7" of JD's "You're no good for me". I received it as a birthday present many moons ago and I had completely forgot about it until finding it today.

It comes in a white fold sleeve of which the front reads "Limited edition: From the end to the beginning, A tribute to Ian Curtis 15th July 1956 to 18th May 1980" on the back is a black and white pic of the aforementioned God havin' it large on stage.

There's no catalogue number.

Can anybody shed any light on this record for me please?

Possibly. It may not be by Joy Division at all, but could be The Panik, with Ian on vocals - we know he did some stuff with them when Steve B'dale tried to poach him away from Warsaw. Hooky has no recollection of ever doing this song.

It's credited "Curtis/Hook"!

Apparently it only cost me mate a couple of quid at the time in the mid-90s.

from what i can remember ,this song was recorded as one of the songs from the "warsaw " demos along with gutz etc(as far as i have read)

That's the one that has the 'n...n...n...n...n...n...n...n...no good...' bits in it. I've got it on a couple of bits - I'll dig them out and let you know what I find

I am sure I asked Hooky this when we got that lock in in Glasgow last year. I was very pished though, but I could've swore he says he remembers it. Maybe Grahame Ferguson has better recollections :evil4:

I've always thought it was Joy Division, if you listen to Gutz, At A Later Date, The Kill and Inside The Line it sounds like it was recorded from the same session.

Must admit- i always thought 'Your no good....' was recorded at the Ideal Beginning session July 18th 77'. One of the 5 tracks they laid down first with Steve Brotherdale on sticks. Warsaw drummer boy 7" singles (2 of them came out spring 81') with different track listings but 'Your No Good...' came out in dec 85'.

I reckon its the worst of the 5 recordings and so took a while for the bootleggers to get hold of it or until New Order let it slip out of the net (so to speak)

It's also on that grey covered "Warsaw" Bootleg CD with the baby's face on the front, listening to an MP3 copy just now. I can't say for sure but it does sound like Hooky's doing the backing vocals, especially during the "Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-no good!" bits. I'm inclined to believe it was Warsaw/JD who recorded it because the guitar riff used is very similar to that in the Warsaw version of "The Kill? :shrug: Only the band knows for certain I suppose.

The track's also on an Italian 4 or 5 track (?) bootleg CD that came with a (very) unofficial booklet containing all JD's lyrics in Italian and strange "paintings of Curtis" interspersed throughout. I can't be sure but the other tracks on the CD were two versions of The Kill and a grainy recording of "As You Said". I think I listened to it twice and filed it away... You're No Good was the only track I was interested in because it was new to me.

Is it a cover song or an original by the band? I'd heard somewhere it was a cover but can't be sure of Warsaw stuff...

Very STRANGE.I have both the CD/BOOKLET and a VINYL/BOOKLET version.I also have this TRIBUTE one that i paid £4 in ACCRINGTON.I thought the CD/VINYL are OFFICIAL.Learn something NEW everyday. Regards ROCKET MICK :hat:

The copies that came with the book are part of a series that was available in bookshops, they had lots of different bands & each came with a rare track.

That was the JD one.
