Billy Corgan

Have just seen the highlights of the Fuji Rock Fest on BBC Choice and cant help wondering what Billy Corgan is doing in the band. During Temptation he was hardly playing and when he did it was the same as Barney and in the end he just started clapping with the crowd. Is he there to try and boost sales in the US to bored Smashing Pumpkin fans or has he got a relevant part to play in the band?

Good question. I have been ignoring signs of New Order catering to the masses lately (Billy Corgan, 3 Uk versions of Crystal, and BLUE MONDAY live even though they hate playing it!!!! i'm still pissed-just play CEREMONY for Allen he deserves to hear it)

Barney said in a interview that his son got him into the Pumpkins which accounts for the bad choice of having him on the album. i am thankful BC took such a low-profile on stage. he doesn't actually sing, it's more like a high-pitched squeal. New Order are Sumner, Hook, Morris and Gilbert and it needs to stay that way. Ok, Johnny Marr could guest if they need additional guitars but Billy Corgan???

In the same interview Sumner said you need a degree to understand house music. Really? They haven't learned to program the synths and sequencers yet? Isolation sounds great with the electronics and the sampled beats that drive Behind Closed Doors are top notch. Could be Arthur Bakers hand though.

Somebody tell me the influence fat boy had on Behind Closed Doors? - I'm liking this track more and more (although initially I had my finger poised on the post... 'Behind Closed Doors... it should have stayed there'. To me, the drum programming is a bit ropey and the high pitch end of verse interludes are a bit tinny. It could have done with a chorus, but I'm not moaning, I do like it.

I would have thought the well nourished Baker would have put some stomp on it, the production, to me (IMHO) is a little weak. Would have been great with a smattering of Confusion originality, but just who the fuck am I to make such hideous comments.

As I've said before, I think on TMW BC fits in very well. I wouldn't want more of him, though.
