I just won this CD off Ebay! Woo-hoo!

A grand total of $16.98 US Dollars.

Here is the tracklisting (looks like it combines songs from both the DJ and commercial digital releases):

  1. (AlbumVersion)
  2. (DJ Dan ClubMix)
  3. (Bill Hamel Vocal Mix)
  4. (MARK!'s True N.O.Vox)
  5. (Morel's Pink Noise Mix)
  6. (DJ Dan Mixshow)
  7. (MacQuayle Extended)
  8. (Morel's Pink Noise Dub)
  9. (MARK!'s True N.O.Dub)

Here is a picture of the CD:

The seller had 2 copies. I got the other one.

Unfortunately this guy's payment options suck goats.

Hmmm, why so cheap? Was it only advertised on eBay USA?

I know I could dig this info out myself but can you tell me if this CD includes EVERY US remix of this track (ie all of the digital downloads for both regular and DJ versions)?

OK, so it might be missing the 2 x Blueplate mixes unless they're re-titled the MARK mixes on here.

And perhaps the Morel Pink Noise and the Hamel edits?

And I wonder if DJ Dan Mixshow = DJ Dan Club Mix edit?

So many questions.

Yes they do suck. It would be nice if Bidpay included the option for MC instead of just Visa and AmEx.

Anyway, I sent him a money order yesterday via priority mail, so he should get it tomorrow. I am hoping to have the CD in hand by Monday of next week.

As for why so cheap as DepthCharge asked?

To be honest, as someone who has been using Ebay since 2001, I think that the US and UK markets take a completely different approach to promos.

You can buy a Goldmine magazine here in the US and find stellar promo CDs for cheap. I can find you 5 different places with the 20 years of New Order promo CD, and I bet you I would pay no more than $85 for all 5 promos, including shipping.

However, if I were to find 5 shops in the UK with those same 5 promos. I'd be lucky to buy 2 at $85 US Dollars. I think with the Esprits, Vinyl Tap's, Action Records, etc. in the UK raping people on promos, it has just become the norm in the country. So when john q. public comes across a promo, they are probably going to check and see what it is going for in their area and come up with a price based off that.

I'd also say that with Record Collector magazine having a promo chart monthly of the "hottest" promos, that also creates a demand or market with instant "values" (the values coming from the very stores that are making extreme profits). This is not done in the US, and thankfully so.

Just my 2 cents.

Fair enough Shawn but with eBay, there are no geographical boundaries or local markets. So unless the item was specifically restricted for the US only, it strikes me as a little odd that these promos went for so little, so early.

Given that they are designated DMD-only releases, you'd expect there to be a rush on to pick up any CD promos. For instance, the first promos of Jetstream and WFTSC were going for upwards of GBP50 in the early days of release. I might add, that if you waited around (like I did), you can now pick up the very same Jetstream "J" CD promo for a couple of pounds! But of course you run the risk of missing a promo with really limited availability. A double-edged sword.

Hopefully we'll see a few more promo variations on eBay in the next few weeks.

Hey Depthcharge, I guess I should clarify. The 2 Promo CDs that were won, were done with Buy It Now. It would appear that the seller maybe didn't recognize the rarity of this item and the fact that GIAUE is going to only be a digital release in the US. I think that is what contributed to the low price and the fact the he labeled the auction as "DJ" CD instead of "Promo" CD.

The seller does have a 3rd listing on Ebay presently, that the buy it now option was removed after a bid was placed. It is currently at $10.50, but I am sure will end much higher than that. So I am sure you will see a price similar to the Jetstream/Krafty promo CDs.

Also, I did do a search from Ebay UK and Ebay Canada for the 3rd auction and it came up, so the seller was not restricting the listing to only the US. In fact, it does state that he will ship worldwide.

I'm very surprised there wasn't a bidding war for this. Certain (brainless) newbie eBayers always tend to start one four or five days before the end resulting in an vastly overinflated price :banghead:

Aaaaanyway, I'm a bit miffed I missed this but I was either on a train or bouncing up and down to New Order in the past 24 hours; a trade off I can live with. No doubt we will be seeing more of these discs on eBay and I notice the disc face is of a similar format to the True Faith 2001 promo CD. Collecting all the edits as well as the full length versions is going to be a pain in the arse but I'd be quite happy with just the full length mix versions for the time being.

Pretty annoyed I missed them too!

Think the problem was I often do a quick search for new + order + promo and this guy listed them as DJ CD. I daresay he is a n00b of sorts, he could've milked a lot more with no BIN and a different auction title!

Guys, let me clarify (since I just got one 15 minutes ago and am not worried about missingout now):

The seller is a long-time (AWESOME) record shop in New York City called Record Runner. I am pretty sure the guy MUST know they are rare - how he got so many, I don't know, but he sure is letting them go pretty cheaply (he HAS raised his Buy It Now price slightly over the last 7 auctions).

I had JUST MISSED OUT on one this morning by two seconds and I e-mailed him and he put another one up. It was up for maybe a minute or so before I snapped it up. Thank God, my heart rate is about 150 right now. I didn't wanna pay $100 for this damn thing.

It seems like he is putting up one every hour or so. Keep hitting the refresh button on your browser and maybe you'll get lucky.

I'm glad I got one. I have a big EXAM tonight at University and I needed something to lift my spirits!

I hate e-bay.

I vowed never to buy anything there again.

Do I really have to do this?

Probably a short auction, and all collectors were at the gig..

Seriously! Did you notice how small is the activity on NOOL since last week? Seems everybody is off enjoying the real life for once ;)

Depthy, I can't find your email on here, could you email me perhaps?

It's regarding a trade unrelated to the thread, mine is in my profile.

can you guys not bid these things up over a fair price. the current one on auction has 6 days and idiots are already bidding it up the price the others have sold for. If no one pays stupid money for these, then the prices will stay reasonable. thousands of promos have been printed so there will be one for you. The mp3's will circulate so you'll have the mixes for free anyway, so please, in the name of everyone who wants one, do not pay dumb money for this item. eventually they will be available for peanuts. I will personally duplicate and mail out copies of the promo if you fools will refrain from paying 150pounds for a FUCKING PROMO. Promo, as in FREE. I know they're collectible, but you don't have to get it the first week and you don't need to be stupid about it. I've already compiled 7 mixes in a zip file and will send out as long as you promise not to continue to bid up these promos.

thank you.

I'm just surprised that this thread isn't 5 pages long. Are people promo'd out or what?

If the auction didn't have the Buy It Now option, I would have just watched the one ongoing auction to see how high the price got. I TOTALLY agree that we shouldn't have to pay $100 or whatever for a PROMO but on the other hand, mp3's suck. People want official, tangible items, whether they have covers, press sheets or whatever. And if it costs $80, it costs $80. The labels should take notice of this and release the mixes officially.

I know some kind soul who will mail me a CD-r of the Planet Funk mixes of WFTSC but, honestly, I want the promo CD-r with the press sheet because I want a TANGIBLE, REAL New Order item. If it get sup to $80 and I have the money (which I am poor as f**k btw) I will buy it. If some guy in the UK wants to pay 150 pounds for it, then I guess I am shit outta luck - supply and demand, bro.

Hmmm an interesting one. I've 'tracked' this one now, but won't be bidding silly money for it. Having the tracks is important, but the generosity of NOOLers will no doubt kick in. While I like to have something tangible as much as the next man, a copy from the cd (not the MP3) will probably do me. Apologies as that is not even subtle, but I don't see the point in bidding on something that will only make it more expensive for those that bit more dedicated than me. In other words I don't want to bid against other NOOLers and just make it more expensive for them. I would like to think you could pick up a copy in not too many weeks time without paying through the roof. Anyway my two bits

The guy just sold another one for a Buy It Now price of $20.50. That's not so bad, now is it?

Why do we have to go through this nonsense for something that should just be released in the normal way?

My irritation at this whole subject remains fairly intense.

Shawn and I are lucky, because we got these things for as cheap as they're ever going to be.

I don't care if it's missing some edits, I'm just glad to have a real CD version of this. The pic is blurry, but most of the track times look like about 7-8 minutes.

If Shawn or Aries are kind enough to burn off a copy for me, I'm willing to trade some boot stuff with them. I also have the WFTSC singles mixes/b-sides(except Planet Funk stuff) on CD-r if you're interested in that as well.

My email is: mcminn7691bass@yahoo.com.au.

While I'm here, I'd just like to thank Gaius for the T & C club DVD and mil...I might get a copy of that Montreux gig off you and I'll have a chat to Kirschy Re. doing a copy of T & C DVD for you.

Listen:

Shipping is $7.50 in the U.S. and I was told it was $25 if I came to buy one at the store.

Warner should just release the 2 x 12 and we can move on.

This is just the label's way of testing demand.

I have a feeling we'll see the official releases soon so stop stressing.

You don't even know if the quality is that good yet.

Nice Brian, I guess the best part of living in an area where NO is not that popular is that there'll be less competition for said promos.
