Yup. Make that about £26. Cheaper than on Ebay, no doubt. Now need to look for a UK online store with the 'BLT/WFTSC' promo CD single...

I've not been online much recently (been moving house), so am not aware of exactly how many mixes are being released...

Is this 9 track promo CD a collection of all the mixes, or are there to be others available online as downloads?

I have decided that my New Order collecting will no longer inclue any download-only material. Only interested in physical CDs or vinyl, as I don't want to lose my record collection if my hard disc crashes! Will probably be hunting down expensive promos from now onwards, but it seems that most of these downloads are just more pointless mixes anyway. Looking forward to hearing what has been done with 'Guilt...' though.

We can all download the tracks (legally and not so legally--hopefully the former) for ourselves.. I think the issue is that we all want the damn physical promo.

make your own CD with the downloads then...

anyone can type the tracklistings on blank cds these days.

Where are they so I can save myself the $45.

(Legal) Downloads from Apple iTunes are only encoded at a crap 128kbps, and you can only legally download them if you live in the US... :\ohwell:

I'm thinking that there are probably promo CDR's floating around for this, as not all the mixes have made it to the 9-track promo? Maybe some vinyl too...?

Apparently, the Planet Funk mixes also appeared on vinyl (according to a recent Mixmag review), as the reviewer mentioned the phrase "stylus hitting the record"... Hmmm... :)

I hate having to resort to downloading or getting a bootleg/burned copy. Until I find an official release I can get my hands on (and I will buy it if i can) I'm gonna get it any way I can.

That's not MP3 at 128. That's ACC at 128. ACC is a compressed format developed by Dolby Labs. An ACC at 128 is equal to about an MP3 encoded at 192 VBR. It's very good.

yes! the AAC files are quite superior to the mp3 equivalent in bitrate.

Damn - just paid $50 for it. Still, it's only £26 - mixes will probably turn out to be distinctly average, mind...

I think you're overstating it a little bit. While it's true at lower bitrates AAC is generally better quality than MP3, once you hit 192kbps and above they offer similar quality with MP3 sometimes offering the best sound. I have seen benchmarks where 256 + 320kbps MP3s have achieved higher scores than AACs of the same bitrate.

Quality aside and speaking from my own experience, any tracks I've bought off iTunes have sounded godawful. The volume is low, the stereo image is wonky and the treble sounds 'watery'. I encode all songs for my iPod in VBR 192-224kbps which sounds great and means I can swap music with mates easily as their MP3 players might not support AAC.

Sadly, this is the way music releases are going to go, no more proper CD releases in favour of shite quality data files. It's not good it was even on ITN news last night. RIP CD single.

Quality improves with time, it's the availability of things like this Guilt single that I am worried about. If by the time they get this digital medium perfected and sounding great, will early stuff like Guilt be available? I only mention this because I have a few really good records, stuff that was quite popular back in its time, but try finding a lot of it on cd.

Or get put their gazillions of dollars into some more user-friendly technology to format vinyl to cd. I've had it done and I think it requires a recording studio. Oh well at least I can put songs on my PHONE *insert fart noise here*
