I'm just curious ;)

There is a lot of gems on disc 2, despite what many people are saying, but all the big guns are on disc 1, so.. I'm asking ;)

When I first got into New Order, the only songs that existed where those that are on side 1 (essentially the Substance singles), so I guess it's those songs I've heard the most, hence the choice of side 1! :)

78's were just a cynical attempt by the record companies to make everyone buy everything again that they already owned on wax cylinders. Wankers.

I wonder if we let Warner's marketing division see these results would they call the boys in for a suit confrontation and admit all the stuff they pushed the band into stank.

"it seems there's a sizable market for real New Order music, so you better make some"

81 - 87. How can you surpass Temptation, Ceremony, Bizarre Love Triangle, Thieves Like Us etc.

What? There's a b-side to this?! :skeptic:

I don't have Singles yet. But I believe I'll go with disc 2. The disc 1 is practically Substance and I prefer the genuine Substance mixes.

But disc 2 is a nice anthology of the last 17 years: The Best Of and International are too dated to represent it. So Singles would be precious for me mostly for the disc 2. Yet I can't wait to have the original 7" Ceremony on CD, too. ;)

Yes Al, on both discs - when disc one has finished playing, turn it over and sample the delights of the hidden tracks... Apparently, Love Vigilantes is on there somewhere! :thumb:

difficult to say... I prefer disc1 althought I enjoy more Substance versions...

CD1. There is no question about it.

1, although the 'subculture', 'shellshock', and 'state of the nation' trilogy is a sagging middle section. It's only more tolerable because they are the edited mixes. Having the original 'ceremony' and 'temptation' is a big boost, and I feel like the mastering on 'procession' is noticably better than on disc 2 of Substance. But unlike most disc 2s on best ofs, I actually pop Singles disc 2 in almost as often as disc 1.

have to go with early. classics.

It's a bit of a tough call, i could happily drop sub culture & shellshock from disc 1 and love run, regret, crystal, here to stay, WFTSC and turn.

Another point is that the edits are a bit anoying.

having bought substance on vinyl and tape I never got round to getting it on CD, now I can't play either of those so on the whole the singles CD is pretty good.

Sorry about rambling on, I'm a bit pissed.

Early...even if just because those are the tunes that made me discover New Order, just loads of good memories

I voted for CD 2, which contains more songs among my favourites than CD 1.

Well, cowboy up! Choose Disc 2. ;)

The first one.

Well the 7" version of State of the Nation leaves out my favorite parts of the song, along with slicing up the order of the refrains for no particular reason at all, but the Shellshock edit is a lot better and stripped down compared to the cacophonous, obnoxious version on International.

Going to go with CD1, every song is a favorite and (almost) all in their best formats.

Next question should be "What's your favorite track on each CD?"

Of course, we know for Digital Mike, it's Blue Monday for Disc 1 and Blue Monday-88 for Disc 2.

Well, there's "True Faith" on Disc 1 (my first New Order song)… But Disc 2, to be honest have a lot of good tracks on it…

I can't make my choice…

Well, again a very tricky poll for me... As i had to choose one, i've picked CD1, as it represents my youth's frantic years and "the Cream" of our Mates. But frankly, as ever, i love both discs. CD2 is plenty of transcendent material. I can't skip anything on 'SINGLES', it really is my fave for years to come : a milestone.
