While getting the man to sign my copy of community in lavery's tonight, I asked if he had one, and he said no. SO I gave him my spare copy. Seems management hogged the ones we sent them, or gave them to Barney.

I saw him look it over before he packed it away and he looked rather pleased about it. I think he was shocked maybe by a fan giving and not take take take.

LOL, he looked at my saville show cd over and over, I don't think he'd ever seen it :) But he still signed it for my sister, bless him.

Hooky was just as I expected him, a really nice friendly bloke, funny that New Order are one of the worlds biggest selling bands, and yet you can still have a laugh and a chat with them. Try chattin to beonce or madonna, see how far you get.

Cheers for the report Steve!

Looking forward to the Aberdeen date where I can hopefully get my copy of Music for pleasure (already signed by Pottsy and Andy Kehoe) signed by the big man himself.

What kind of tunes was he spinning?

I find it hard to believe WenOrder didn't give him one when he met him last month!

I gave copies to Andy Robinson when I was in Chicago, so if they lost them, it's not my fault !! ;)

I sent them a WHOLE BOX!!!!!!!! Everytime i asked if he got them, he said he needed to go down to see rebecca to pick them up! So I assumed he already got his copies. Oh well.

But i did give hooky a NOOL T-shirt.

Bugger didn't even know exactly what it is. Until he read it, then just smiled to himself and tucked it into his CD wallet.

I only stayed til about 12:45, got a lift down with the Snoopy. It wasn't a moment too soon as I was bright green by the time i walked out.....was on course for Apollo, the revenge, seems that just standing for a while and jumping around like a nob is too much for me and all FFS!

He played some truly inspred tunes. The grace jones-SLC thing is amazing BTW. Lots of really awesome funky electronic and deep dark house. Very hacienda at times, very detroit at others. Also played the deepest darkest dub tune I've heard in a long time....would have made Alex Paterson's head turn. really loved the music, the lamest track I heard was a remix (or cover) of krafty, which was only lame cos it was a wee bit comercial for my ears, didn't stop me singing my baps off to it. He's an amusing as fuck DJ to watch as well. He does all the same wind up shit he does with his bass for the assembled hook worshippers in the front row.

Forgot to say, he was also really pleased when I told him he made me throw up at the apollo.....would have lost all respect for him if he hadn't been. And he looked really quite shocked when I gave a cd of some of our shit and said "I'm not giving you a demo man, don;t want a deal, this noise wouldn't have been made if it hadn't been for you" and mentioned that the first track may result in him suing me :) Shocked and chuffed, I had it in my head that he'd take that as a compliment, I know the first time someone told me they'd bought a bass cos I'd inspired them it nearly killed me (bear in mind, I played in pubs and clubs, not big gigs), so it was good to see that he definitely seemed pleased.

I really wish I could have got chattin to him. Of all my musical "Idols", Hooky's the one that most makes me hate the fact that I'm the fan and he's the "star". Reckon I'd get on OK stuck in an airport departure lounge with the guy. Barney and I would punch each other, unless he was either in great form, or felt like geeking out about his machines, in which case I'd sit and listen like a polite first year looking at the headmaster. Gillian, I'd mumble "hello Mrs morris" into my chest, lest gazing on her up close smites me with love instantly. And Steve's probably one of the few popstar types (as opposed to proper terrifyingly clued up engineers) who could confuse ME on matters musomechanical, you know what i mean, that freak was makin music on a mac in like 82 or something WTF? (I'm sort of hoping some of you know enough of the history of sequencing and computer based noises to appreciate that in 1982 there was the fairlight and errrrrrr fuck all, in terms of computers that did anyting but beep). But Hooky's a guy who'd entertain me for sure and I've enough "everyone in the band but the bassplayer's a gibbering, retarded egomaniac" tales to keep the fucker in stitches :) there's something about the look on his face (not the one when we let fly with NUODDAHNUODDAH), when he's doing his thing that just yells "playin' music is really fucking important to me", and I can relate to that. Anyway, enough ramblings.

I seriously hope he writes a book :)

I sat lookin like a fuckin BSP fan most of the night then went momentarily psychotic to most of what Hooky was playing NOTE to self....even when in full viking battlearmour, pogo-ing to house is not big or clever and will not get you pulled :( It also makes you sick.

Top night, top bloke. Though I must say neither of those facts surprises me in the least.

Does anyone have any of his Dj sets on mp3 or even CD? I have the wee thing he did for XFM on the day of hyde park, it's awesome but only 25 mins long.

He musta recognised the logo cos there was a vague glimmer of recognition. He probably wondered whY iwanted it signed, I never mentioned being on it to him DOH!.

Pogo-ing to house Steve? Oh dear!

I used to wonder how my mates alwats found me at big dance gigs, eventually someone said "Well from the sides, it's really obvious that out of the so many thousands here, you're the only cunt pogo-ing"

It's either that or embarrassing dancing y'know.

U mean the old boy scammed me? :) Well he looked chuffed and that's the main thing. I wish I'd had the balls to actually pipe up and say "that's me doing heart and soul on there", cos I'm sure he wondered WTF I wanted him to sign it for :) I'm sure he worked it out when he read the name on the CD of our shit I gave him, I bet he never listens to it ever, his loss, the first track will give him a laugh i'm sure.

My sis is over the moon...The BassMan's pawprint has now overtaken ricky wassisface's from the royal family as her most treasured item :)

Thank him humbly on our behalf man, he's a true gent :)

(and while you're at it, see if you can steal one of his mix tapes :) )

EDIT: I shoulda signed the CD I gave him LOL

hats of to yer steve. ive always been dubiuos(scared i suppose of meeting any of new order). in case i make a fool of myself,(crying, blubbing,to name but a few). id always thought that hookey would be the coldest of the bunch but by yours and others acounts hes the warmest to the fans. glad to see hes so open to meeting the true fans and not got his head up his arse:thumb:

As I said, a real gentleman, all smiles and warmth. And as for signing stuff the vibe was neither "oh fuck I suppose I have to do this for these cunts" nor "oh lovies they want me autograph, where's me bag of pre-signed photos". Twas more like "fook it, these buggers pay me money to play my bass, if a pawprint and a palm press puts a smile on their gobs, then it's a cheap good deed for the day" And for a man who has NUKED hecklers, he enjoys a bit of the good natured sort. These days it seems a blast of a viking warcry just creases him up (probably not in the bank on a monday morning like :) ). He strikes me as caring an enormous amount about being a bass legend, but not from an ego point of view, it's like he thinks it's the only thing he's any good at or something.....watch that BBC rock family trees thing, and listen to the tone of his voice and watch the look in his eyes when he talks about hearing WDYWFM on the radio for the first time. there's more told in that brief glimpse than in many an interview. I also think he's never got over the effect it has on you when you play music and connect to other human beings....anyone here who's ever pulled off a gig and had a random looney tell you you're amazing with wide eyes and open jaw, will know what it feels like, doubly so if YOU thought the gig sucked ass. Only about 5% of this conjecture relates to Lavery's it's years of watching NO interviews that lead me to most of these theories.

Having said that, I wouldn't want to go bothering him when he aint in the mood. Not just out of respect (he doesn't have to be Peter Hook God of Bass every minute, sometimes he has a right to be Peter Hook, man buying pint of milk), but also cos he'd be very capable of rippin yer heed off if you really annoyed him, he's a brawny lad. And not only would that hurt, but think of the crap all those corpse feeding hacks would make out of it "hooky the bastard mauls fan" rather than "man silences irritating assailant". it's differnt when he's "working", than if you bumped into him in the street....I'd be like you, the most i would manage is a "alright man" and a bloke-nod.

I think half the reason he does the DJ stuff (other than money for old rope, and fair play to the bugger he kicked ass), is to get out and look some of us maniacs in the eye. New Order don't isolate themselves and act like cockbrained celebs, and as long as we don't try and tear their clothes off in the street (I'm looking SQUARELY at the Serbian Order here ;) ), it'll stay that way. I mean yeah these days their events, being run by other than factoryconfusications, tend to be a bit more pro, and now they have all this vogue adoration from the simpering masses who've finally realised they are without equal and feel guilty as shit, they do tend to get red carpetted away more often. But they don't shop at TESCO with an entourage of 15 lackies with walkie talkies and bags of fucking rose petals for them to walk on...if they did certain persons on this website would doubtless be in prison or traction by now (or stink of rotting roses).

Late at night, sleep deprivation kicking in and painkillers not willing to let me sleep, so.....ramble time I'm afraid....

on another related point..... I was discussing the Osbornes with a mate of mine who's a HUGE Sabbath fan. He not only watches it but really enjoys it. I simply cannot wrap my head around that. Imagine seeing Hooky, and Jack and Heather(that's big sis isn't it?...see, shows how clued up I am, not very, the way it ought to be) and all having their private lives not only displayed but (in total accordance with Heisenberg) affected and to an extent guided. I find the merest thought of it quite repellent. To be honest even some of what I said above about how Hooky appears to ME, seems a teeny bit intrusive, but hey, it stil beats caring about his domestic existence.

Whatya reckon our Jack? Could you play "famefrazzled psycho-son"? (actually isn't one of Ozzy's creatures called jack?) Not a bad plan, it has several benefits.....

  1. you can charge us money for replying to our posts..."dear sir, I replied to 3 of your ravings this month, that'll be £60 please, payment by Monday or we send Sarge round"
  2. You get a record contract, even if you can't play for shit (right, what cunt said "family tradition" :D )
  3. WE all get to tell everyone "we knew him when he was just yon hairy fooker's kid"
  4. You might get to call jonathon Ross names

of course on the down side....you'd have sold your soul to satan and we'd all think yer a sell-out git :)

What about the rest of you, how would you feel about a fly on the bogwall about the private non-new order lives of one of the fab five (six counting Dawn)?

Personally, I'd LOVE to watch just ONE day in the life of Barney, preferrably a working day, or a pissing around with ideas day, just because the man fascinates me. After 20 odd years I'm still not sure if i actually like him or not :)[1] He is at once pleasant and rude, a genius and a moron, he's just a very odd creature, from this distance anyway.

Or a Steve Morris Percussion Programming Masterclass.

where was i oh yeah, Ozzy... It's worse with Ozzy too cos he's a fucking embarassment these days (and a legend, granted), and his family are all bleedin mutants. Sodding awesome entertainment for the drooling classes (and some higher species, for an episode or two, must confess I've seen 5 or 6), but i dunno how anyone who loves Sabbath can stomach it, how they can NOT say this is NONE of my business and turn over. He's a musician, his private life ought to be openned to the world through his music, it's what the thing is for, keeping musicians sane by letting them work life out in notes.

[1]I seem to recall a certain close friend of his who plays bass opining something very simillar :)

Hey, that post made me laugh alright!

The Osbournes............The Hooks.

Don't think The Hooks has the same kinda ring to it really, but granted it would be pretty damn funny. If you really wanna know i can let you in on some of the things that seem to happen pretty regularly.......

  1. I usually wake up the latest, and go downstairs to find my dad reading the paper and watching either some kinda kids show that my little sister has on, or something random like Hollyoaks or something like that.

  2. If you're lucky, you might get a bit of drama if one of the dogs decides to do it's business in the house...which usually sends my dad into a rage of anger, filled with looks like this  and lots of, well, lets say four letter words...

  3. Then i'll usually just be upstairs doing work, work and more work for school

my dad does listen to the cd's people give to him, cos usually when i go down he's at the computer checking his e-mails while listening to this really random cd that some guy in someplace like sweden or japan has given to him, some are really good i gotta say, but some are downright schocking :nono:

  1. Then we all sit down like a nice loving family and have dinner.............or just get a take away!!!!!!

:thumb: either way it's all good!

I did really like the osbournes when it was the first series, i think they've killed it now though cos it's like the ninth season or something crazy like that!

ROFLMAO yeah I pretty much thought that's what life at chez 'ooky would be like. He's kinda of an animated Jim Royale :D (don't you fookin DARE tell im :) ) Somehow, you don't strike me as a screwup(holding my final judgement til I hear sunrise :) ), and I aint seen yer sis on telly making a bap of herself, and yer da can still string a sentence together with great aplomb, Maybe the Dog would make good subject matter (if he's half as daft as mine)?

Sorta figured he would listen to ppl's music, i wonder how may of them think he's just a non-cunt A+R man and a shortcut to a deal. I actually wrote "not a demo, just enjoy" or something on mine. Bringing a little symetry to the universe, I spend 20 years listening to his racket, and he spends a wee while listening to mine, I like that :) Actually, based on some of the tunes he was bashing out, he'll ignore the "Steve tunes" and dig the "Rich tunes" (there aint many of ours we actually work on together, usually one of us starts a track and turns it over to the other, or practically finnish the thing and let the other master it), Rich is a jack-house-bonus-beat-detroit-chicago-hacianda obsessive, and a fucking awesome drum programmer, with the unfortunate exception that he is FOREVER starting grooves on the third semiquaver of a bar and stuff like that, which makes editing perfectly impossible. feel free to steal the CD off him :) (easily identifyable by the illegible red handwriting I should think), but there's only one track with bass on it, I was too shy.

You know I was just thinking Jack, there's n,000 members here, you may NEVER have to buy a drink in your life :)

EDIT: What I think killed that show is what I was saying about feedback from the show into their lives, the show and the attention it focused on those kids and his batty wife (can anyone explain to me how marrying Ozzy is a qualification to be a "talent" judge?), I seen a couple from each of the first few series and it just got dafter and more outrageous and felt more and more like ther entire existence was becoming stage managed. Mind you, Ozzy IS still a Leg End of the highest order, right up their with cap'n 'Ook, and still knows how to be rock and roll....witness his wonderful report on his dear canines to Martin Brundle live on a sunday teatime..."the dogs are at home shitting all over the place"...press went loopy over that, but at every race the drivers swear their balls off and no one says boo, tossers.

If you can convince him to write (well dictate) the liner notes of Community 2 *cough*, that would be nice :evil4:

It was actually a kind of dream to have the band giving their comments on the songs and put that in the liner notes, but to be honest, after the very long exhausting process, we just wanted to release the damned thing ;)

Steve, out of curiousity.. why the hell did you ask him to sign COMMUNITY? It's not like he participated into this album :evil4: You could have asked oldMonkey to sign it, but Hooky? ;)

Just curious.

When he signed my "No Pain No Gain" in Chicago, he looked at it, either he was surprise to see one in America, or he never saw the actual CD before!! But I think he was quite pleased to sign that one.. and it's actually why I brought it.

Poor guy, my first contact with him was taking over stuff to sign and pass them on through the DJ booth, I got WenOrder's Krafty 12" signed, and I passed my copy of WFTSC which was also signed by Phil who was there... he insisted that Phil signed all the new albums actually, and my Revenge CD I bought for that occasion especially.

At that moment he didn't know me, but when in New York, at his DJ set in Hiro, he did recognized me and greeted me and shook my hand, and to be honest, I didn't talk to him at all, just chatted with Bernard and Phil for most of the trip, I left the interview job to Kamar because I didn't wanted to sound stupid searching my words all over the place in english (Kamar actually wanted me to do it first)

So really, he's quite a nice guy. But of course, like everybody, he's doing boring stuff like cleaning the gifts his dogs left him

That cover of Ceremony is actually the spark that launched the whole initiative. Hence why I insisted to do the EP and have that on it.

All this Ozzy/Hook thing has given my an atrocious idea, hooky and heather doing a duet of atmosphere (with altered lyrics, so it's all daddy i love you mushy crap), back to back on a weird chair, just in time for chrimbo, get hooky to have a quad bike accident to increase sales, quite original I thought!!!

Disclaimer 1: I think i may have seen something similar somewhere before.

Disclaimer 2: I don't really want hooky to have any kind of accident, if he does, it's nowt to do with me.

It was my twisted sense of humour, get Hooky to sign Album with me playing Hookybass noises :) Besides I dunno about "didn't participate", he's only partially responsible for creating all our raw material surely that counts as participation (albeit before the fact).

I'm sure he thought I was nuts, but I couldn't pluck up the balls to explain that I was on the Album. Actually he looked harder and more confused at the saville show cd.....shame really, it's just about the best thing they've ever recorded. TBH I should have taken "music for pleasure" or something, but my perverse sense of humour just wouldn't allow it.
