OK Guys n' Gals,

I mean this post in no disrespect, but the answers are hard to come by anywhere else, so you guys are smart and should know, and I'd appreciate it if you could clear things up for me:

  1. Gillian and Hooky used to date right? Are they still on and is the kid his?

  2. Stephen Morris is gay right? Is Barney gay also?

Ok that's it, short and sweet, danke. ;)

Do we have an FAQ we can redirect Master Z to...? Hastily.

:evil2:

I suspect that Chris Z is a bit of a wind-up merchant given his review of one of the Sydney gigs.

ahhh....he's just a big dookie head!!!!! :happytongue:

Shoudn't this be called "TROLLING" ??

Holy Jeesus, I thought people from Cornwall were always considered a bit strange.....

Perhaps a simple answer to Chris's questions would do...

  1. No - it's Steve's
  2. No (he's married to Gillian and has been for years) / No, but that's what I used to think also (Barnstable has kids now with terrible taste in music -- Smashing Pumpkins -- such a shame with the quality blood line)

Thank you for your questions. Others may know more about the relationship btw Steve and Gillian and Barney's first, failed marriage -- see Technique era songs for details on the breakup "listen to me, I know what i'm saying/love don't come easily/ i admit, that i was wrong etc..."

come on peeps, chris is just a young chap compared to the average NOO user (avg. 29/30 if i remember correctly)

Geaux, thanks very much for your reply, I appreciate it. :)

PS - Mickey & everyone who thought I was 'trolling' you are wrong.

To expand further, Steve and Gill have 2 kids. She does actually go under the name Gill Morris these days (ask Johnny G how he knows this!). And they didn't even Hooky or Barney to their wedding!

Oh, and Barney has almost certainly dabbled in his feminine side. Don't ask me how I know this, but this one has reared it's head time and time again anyways...

Ok, at the risk of being flamed for asking another question, does anyone know what is wrong with Gillian (& Stephen's) child?

Or is that just a 'story' because Gillian doesn't feel like touring or something?

Don't think it's ever been said what was wrong with said child. However, she's fine now.

Perhaps this is where we need a moderator to step in..

Z man, while everyone respects your status as a new NO fan, some simple background reading may save you from copping flak from longer-serving members. It's sort of a given ('Netiquette') that anyone posting to a specialist board such as this will have at least the basic knowledge of the subject.

It prevents people from posting stuff like, "Hey- I heard this really cool song by New Order, does anyone else know it? 'How does it feeeeeellll...'"

;)

Try these links for decent background info and FAQs:

http://www.neworderonline.com/neworder.asp http://slashmc.rice.edu/ceremony/neworder/no\_info/noinfo.html

Although some info may be slightly out of date, it'll help you fill in some blanks you may have regarding the band.

Any questions above 'entry level New Order info' is free game- ask away. There's a hell of a pool of NewOrder knowledge here.

Yeah Depthcharge I understand what you are saying but this site's FAQ says nothing about what I asked, and the NO members biographies don't either.

IMDB says nothing either, just a nickname, birthplace, and that they are NO members, excatly what the bios on this site says.

You have to admit, my questions weren't *that* newbie, they weren't like "This song is mad" or anything.

Thanks for your help. ;)

Chris, full marks for honesty and innocence.

I guess if the FAQ you looked at didn't give you any answers, casual lurking on this board will often provide handy clues. Watch out for articles such as the recent Mojo magazine expose, there was plenty of personal bio info there. How did you get that impression about Hooky & Gill, or Morris' preferences anyway?

Reading up on FAQs and band history will also help you with stuff you've raised previously, like how you'd never heard of "that Love Will Tear Us Apart track" before. This came as a bit of a jaw-dropper to some of us because it's a rather critical track in the band's back catalog.

Being a young fan has mixed blessings- you get the thrill of jumping onto New Order through the strength of their new stuff and then working your way through their fucking sparkling back catalog. The drawback is that it's harder to learn the key elements and put them into a context, when you weren't around for them. I guess the advice is to keep reading this forum and read up on any articles you come across elsewhere.

And keep off the ecstasy.

Anyway- enough! This is making me feel old. Now where's that damn cup of Bovril...

Cool thanks for your help Depthcharge:

  1. I watched a bit of Rock Family Trees a while back it mentioned Gillian was dating Hooky and that is how she got into the band, I didn't know if they remained together or not.

  2. At another NO website I saw someone ask if Barney was gay, now since Barney is very effeminate(?) this was a question I asked myself too but didn't have the balls to say incase I was flamed, anyway somebody responded saying Morris was gay, so I didn't really know.

  3. I don't read magazines, too damn pricey, back in my day a top mag was under $5, now some of them are nearly $20!!! Oy Vey! that nearly buys me 3 packets of Cigarettes!

  4. I would never touch Ecstacy, MDMA is a dirty drug in my opinion.

  5. Although I'm a relatively new NO fan, stuff like BLT, True Faith, Blue Monday, Regret, & Paradise I recall hearing in the 80's but never knew who performed these tracks, probably because NO do their best to stay out of the media spotlight, unlike present day artists that are always on TV (Britney Spears etc etc) I think the more media exposure you have to hype yourself, damages your longevity, I believe if NO had of stood in the spotlight 24/7 they wouldn't have had such a long career.

After all, at the end of the day it's supposed to be about the music eh? Not marketing, and as that quote goes in that film 'Blade Runner': "The Candle that burns twice as bright burns twice as fast" or something like that. (explains why artists these days drop 2 albums and thre 3rd is a 'greatest hits' ... WTF? Older artists dropped 8 albums before a GH!!)

  1. Never knew Billy Corgan was Barney's son (hope that's correct), IMDb says nothing about that either ... it's hard to find out info regarding NO compared to other actors/artists and hell even politicans!

Anyway thanks man. ;)

Who are Barney, Gillian, Stephen, and Peter?

Rock Family Trees would've said Gillian was dating STEVEN. As far as I know Gillian has been dating Steve forever and an age..

Hooky, as we all secretly know, is actually the Gay member of the Order. I believe he's what's known as a 'bear' in homosexual circles.

No I'm pretty sure they said she was Hooky's girlfriend.

I think your just fucking with me? ;)

Ooooh my gooooood?! Now I don't understand it at all anymore!!!

Hooky gay, Barney the bear in hetero-land? Steve and Gillian meeting each other on a blue monday? Where's the right order in this all? I almost run wild?

BTW, there's nothing wrong with a fan asking questions that all other big fans believe to be common knowledge.....

(though I must say, when reading the questions, my first impression was: that's for a good laugh!).

I've just pissed myself laughing reading this thread...where on earth did you get any of those ideas from Chris?? Billy COrgan Bernards son.....

In your defence though, barney did spend quite a bit of time knocking about with the PSB's - a bit dodgy in itself, and theres certainly a few possible gay references in a few of the songs...I for quite a while thought in 1963 'Johnny' may have been a 'lover', while Subculture and Perfect Kiss suggests to me Barney boy may have been experimenting with batting for the other side.

This may be complete bollox, but an old mate of mine who was well into the 'Order told me that Gillian met Stephen through Barney, and she in fact used to come to JD gigs coz she wanted a piece of Bernard.

Perfect Kiss has references to masturbation... but i think its more about going out and meeting someone. Or maybe its just all bollocks but a great song!

Hooky was indeed married to a talkshow host several years back. An old lady by the name of Mrs Merton, well into her 60's (this at a time when Hooky was only in his 30's!). Quite a national scandal. They never quite breached the age difference and were doomed from day one. Hooky even managed to get himself onto the front of a British national paper - The Sun - when he lamped her next fella after a falling out at a party. They ran it under the headline "Mrs Hurt-on" as she took a bit of a knock squeezing between them. The next boyfriend sadly died of cancer shortly after, and Mrs Merton emigrated Down Under, where she's now resident.

If this all sounds like bollocks, it's actually all totally true. Nearly.

I can just see Hooky beating the crap out of the next boyfriend ... I didn't know that she was so much older ... It seems that Hooky was very much in love with this lady ... He even played bass in the talk show band ...

Chris, the bit about Billy C being barney's son most likely stems from the story of Barney's son making a Smashing Pumpkins compilation for him and that leading to the collaboration on Get Ready and the following guest appearances on the Area:One tour. You smoke cigarettes yet think Ecstacy is a dirty drug? You got to try it once to be able to relate to the modern world. Smoking cigarettes will do far more damage than necking a pill. Perhaps a "loved-up" night out would enlighten you a bit. What about LSD? IMHO LSD and Ecstasy are essential, mind-body-soul expanding substances to be used in moderation. Cigarettes are the curse of the devil and you WILL DIE from smoking them. You can follow me to my grandmothers grave one day if you don't believe me. Take me to a grave of someone who took a reasonable amount of pure MDMA and paid the ultimate price and we may come to some sort of agreement. With regulation, these drugs would be safer than a drive down the highway.

i will never take ecstacy 'cos i don't want to become a bloated corpse.

Having said that, i'd like to add that i do not take ecstasy anymore primarily because it's not ecstasy (mdma) but some mixture of dangerous chemicals. If i had a supply of pure mdma, i'd probably take it about once or twice a year. If you believe E will kill you, you probably yearn for the time when Thatcher and Reagan ran the world. MDMA will NOT kill you. The television lies to us everyday, Experience is the only truth.

Me thinks you are correct

He is, alot of stuff being sold as Eccys today can be anything from a mixture of Ma Huang and Pseudoephedrine to Ketamine to God Know's What!

Geaux, current research on MDMA says it may drain spinal fluid, which could be why users feel so fucked the next day ... I don't know if it's true or not, but I still don't trust MDMA.

Your right about the cigarettes, evil cunts they are, but I'm addicted, and have quit many times before but always after a few weeks or months go back to them ... I'm a junkie. ;)

About the Billy Corgan thing, somebody here said it so I believed them, I don't know if they were joking or not but they seemed to know what they were on about, wish I knew for sure.

Regarding 'Rock Family Trees' See Ye or Ahmad if you guys have it on tape can you tell me if I was right and it said Gillian was dating Hooky when she joined NO?

And Mickey, nobody has been 'had', I ask these questions sincerely, keep away from those fumes your tank is giving off. ;)

I don't think enough research has really been done to judge MDMA one way or the other to be honest. Can certainly liven up a friday night though.

If you read touching from a distance by deborah curtis it explains the whole thing i thing it was gillians sister that first started going to JD gigs - can't really remember long time since i read it - has anyone else read it because i'd like to know what they thought of deborah curtis after reading it - maybe i picked it up wrong but she seemed ever so slightly yampy to me(!)
