By viewing the member profiles I sometimes wonder about the entries. How could it be that someone who is 23 years old is a New Order fan since 1987 ?? When I was 9 years old I listened to ...ehm...I can't even remember....
I've been listening to New Order since 1984 but I'm very old now
Is there a competition going on that I don't know about?

Im 26 and have been a fan since i was 11/12 (1987) I have also been into my other fave band since i was 6!
I was totally influenced by older cousins.... no other excuse...

Well I'm 34 and first heard 'Transmission' at the ripe old age of 11 or 12 on Roundtable. I used to tape it every Friday and decide what single to buy the following Saturday - I think I used to buy one a fortnight as that's all my pocket money would stretch to. I used to love the way the bass came in on Transmission and the way it used to make the needles flip on my mom and dad's stereo (yes, stereo systems used to have needles!) and I've been hooked ever since.
If only I'd still got that tape...
I also remember vividly the first ever radio play of Temptation on Peely.
wouln´t that be a nice world 9 year old kids listen to NO wow! hm on the other side that means stories of NO in every BRAVO....
I'm 28 now, so when I first became a New Order fan, I was about 14 years old.
And BELIEVE ME, I would listen to A LOT of music when I was a kid. I remember when I was only 9 that I was high in "Just an Illusion", that old disco-ish song by the group Imagination, or I Feel Love by Donna Summer... and I would buy a new LP eack week, most of the time all by myself (which would crack up the girl at the counter). Among those I remember buying [WARNING: CHEESE AHEAD]: Color By Numbers by Culture Club, Thriller by Michael Jackson, Cindy Lauper's huge album (don't remember the title)... Laura Branigan's Self Control... and I even bought Lionel Richie's album with All Night Long and Hello! MAN.............
Fortunately, I would also love other poppish songs like Baltimora's Tarzan Boy and Alphaville's Big in Japan. But that was a little bit after.

Anyway, just to say that you can have a huge interest in music even if you're pretty young.

I'm 28 and first got into NO with the Lowlife album. I had older friends who influenced my taste. The first single I bought was Shakespeare's sister by the Smiths.
29 and getting older fast.
First record ever bought was the Rocky 4 soundtrack - how wank was that.
Low-Life did it for me, got it the same time as Sub-Culture 12" - you can imagine how mystified I was listening to the Low-Life version of this song, I think that contradiction did it for me - couldn't work out if they were mad or genius.
Marco - keep the faith over the weekend, I won't be here to keep tabs on you - going away with the bird for a bit. Monday night, I'll return...... with a little piece of history.

Well, I don't know about you, but I've been a fan since 1969...that's right...not more than 5 minutes after I was born...a bright light surrounded me, and there was a vision of when the masters would begin taking over the earth...the visions disturbed me. First I would hear frogs croaking in a song (this would let me know that soon, it would begin), and I was like, what the fuck (I was very advanced for a newborn). Second, I would see a couple of dudes in barrells slapping and Kung Fu fighting, a dwarf dancing, and a crazy cat that could make the earth move by tilting his face screen...that would signal the actual beginning...So when I first heard the perfect kiss...and those damn frogs, I became very afraid...then when I saw True Faith, and I knew that the time was near...anyway, that's why 1987 is significant, and I am programming everyone's computer to burn that number into their minds...besides, doesn't that video have lots of elements that would appear to 9 year olds...especially that moron trying to balance a sphere, a pyramid, and a cube...everybody knows you can only balance parabolas....

I must admit that I bought Low-Life at least 2 years after Substance, so I was really, REALLY surprised by Subculture on the album.. for me, Subculture has always been the remix and I always enjoyed the remix.. but I did really like the original one.
Now, it's a hard call between the remix and the Razormaid v1 remix, which is one of the few good they did!
I would have to say I was a NO fan starting in 1984 but I have always been fond of music from a very early age and I am now 29. I was buying records at the age of 5, I remember asking my parents to get me albums. I believe listening to the music was my escape and has be very helpful over the years, so if someone started listening to NO at 9 it would not be surprising in the least bit to me!!:)

I am completely with you on this one Seb. I remember when I would listen to the radio and record songs for endless hours and they decipher the lyrics by rewinding the tape over and over until I got down every word of the song and then memorize. Oh if I still had those tapes!
I was into everything from Cindy Lauper to Micheal Jackson. I have to admit I was a bit of a New Kids on the Block fan too (come on I was a child of the 80s :P )
Sometimes I wish I could go back to those carefree days :)
