New Order turn up in some funny places, video games and the like.

I've noticed there are also quite a few references to them in "literature". Bret easton Ellis references them in The Rules of Attraction (he describes what seems to be a promo poster for Get Ready in his latest Lunar Park)and of course TF is on the American Psycho soundtrack, Irvine Welsh called Hooky a bass god in Glue and I've heard J.G. Ballard is a NO/JD fan.

Just wondering if any other NOOLers had noticed any NO references in other books?

P.J. O'Rourke's "Holidays In Hell" chapter on Polish travel has a little reference to Polish pun from 80's and slips in a Joy Division reference (page 87).

Nah...that was the Burrough's character while the boys were touring in The Low Countries (and Where Ian met Annik Honore' I think). Burroughs was giving a talk and Ian wanted to speak to him. Guess Burroughs told him to Ian to go away but Burroughs was pretty nutty and dopey by then...dope and machine guns do not go together.

there's a character in "the long dark teatime of the soul" by Douglas Adams, who must surely be Hook-inspired....the chap is prone to turning his bass up full at 3am and playing Ride of the valkery on it, just to prove it can be done:)

'Marvel Collection' no.7, featuring the Silver Surfer (out this month in the UK) quotes the surf dude's love for Shalla Bal thus; 'love will tear us apart... again'.

if you search the archives there was a thread very similar to this a few years back - BEE was singled out then as dropping one or two references (also mentions them in Glamourama i think)

There's more NO setlists in e-Males than there is in "An Ideal For Living"!!!!

And for what it's worth, I have an essay about "Gladiator" in the following:

well if we're being that tenuous frads, i did a match report for bristol v manchester at rugby & included 23 references to manchester bands (most of which were nu ordah & jd) on www.bristolrugby.net but i can't be arsed to dig the link out
