West Coast info and San Diego NOOLers

Just wondering if there were any NOOLers in the San Diego region who might be around for a drink in January? I've been selected to go to do some research at the UCSD (University of California at San Diego) for most of Jan, and would be grateful for the local knowledge etc. Equally any one from any where else with any recommendations on bars/records stores etc (the important parts of travel itinerary) in the vacinity then I'd be happy to learn. Thanks in advance.

I probably won't be in San Diego, but the best record store is easily Lou's Records in Encinitas (which is considered to be in "North County" San Diego). If you make it up to LA, then one of the top record stores in North America is Amoeba Hollywood.

I used to live in San Diego and I'm an alumni of UCSD. I can vouch for Lou's Records... wonderful place... there are two buildings; one's for new and the other's for used. Another store of note would be Off the Record (in Hillcrest), which is a little closer to UCSD (5 miles). Lou's is about 16 miles north. I found a link that might be helpful to you...

If you're looking for a friendly bar that hosts some great bands, definitely stop by the Kasbah, which is very close to the airport. I'd also try the Aero Bar, which doesn't host bands, but has the best selection of beer in the city. Grandma's is another cozy place that has live music. Start with these and you'll probably hear about the others. Don't forget to try all the little mexican places all over town.

Found out today that I'll be stauing at the "Regents Court apartments in La Jolla" ? http://blink.ucsd.edu/Blink/Images/Gallery/3389ar.jpg?coming\_from=Content this is a map of locale and given that I'll be car-less it will be where I start off. Also my trip will take in a few days in San Francisco and then DC. I know about Ameoba in Haight in SF but other recommendations would be welcome. Equally, anything I "should" do in San Diego other than the Zoo!

Staying at the regents, aye? yeah i know that place pretty well. an ol' ball n' chain used to live in those parts.

for a bit of nightlife go to the gas lamp district, which is right downtown. resturants and clubs galore down there. if you want some good grub at a reasonable price, try Hash House a Go Go. funny name i know, but great grub and it's right down the street from Off the Record. if you want to look at some fine art and have a relaxing day walking around on a usually fantastic san diego afternoon, go to Balboa Park Museum. that's just a start. if you want more, feel free to eamil me.

Amoeba in Hollywood is nice for promos but I prefer the San Francisco & Berkeley locations. I was just in San Francisco on December 5th (for an Echo & the Bunnymen show at The Fillmore) and picked up an advance copy of the US release of Singles.

Off The Record in Hilcrest is good too.

Check out Balboa Park..... Th Ruben H Fleet Space Museum has some cool exhibits sometimes.

Casbah is a great Venue to see some cool bands and have a beer.

Old Town......The Gas Lamp District......so much to do!!!

Echo and the Bunnymen play tommorow (DEC9th) at the house of Blues in San Diego!!!!
