Quoth the Pitchfork, EGG is their weakest early single. I should think not.

This is the sweetest collection NO has so far. It's cool to see how the genius continues...

don't want to turn this into an anti-pitchfork thread but i FCUKing hate Pitchfork and all the little poser indie fuxx who get all their taste from what Pitchfork sez is cool.

die pitchfork, die.

not a bad review of Singles, though.

this set intriged me. "substance" is still the best place to start imho

and yes I bought it-I am a hopeless slut for NO albums etc

Yeah, you won't find disagreement from me, Pitchfork do suck, and EGG is NOT one of their weaker singles (tw@ts)!

I love all their early singles inc eeg procession,& temptaion.
as i said somewher else, it shows what movement could have been with a different producion. i always thought that factus8 was mucn better than m.

at least you guys got a review. as far as i can see sofat there isn't an oz review of singles, although sirens got good coverage here.

The not-very-good single from this period, in fact, is "Everything's Gone Green", in which the band discovers a) Computer-based sequencers, and b) Almost the exact vocal line from "Blue Monday"

from blue monday? seems they've got their singles timeline a bit jumbled....

He means that they discovered the vocal line, which will later be applied to "Blue Monday."

I have many problems with Pitchfork but certain writers are excellent. Nitsuh is a gentleman and a scholar and has never annoyed me. Jess Harvell is another good egg. The rest of them can mostly f-off.

pitchfork isnt so bad. lots of stuff they say is intersting actually turns out to be quite interesting. i don't always trust the bad reviews they give... they don't get everything right... also, they have news and essays that can't be beat. as long as you don't treat pitchfork as a bible or something, it's useful. it would be no better than only listening to the radio for musical input (unless that station happens to be really really good, like http://www.kexp.org or something...)

like anything else, using pitchfork as one of many sources is a good idea. kind of like alternating weekends between e, coke and smack. keeps you going, but doesn't let you come totally under the influence...
