Anyone been checking out stuff on Warp at all? Everyone here seems to have pretty similar tastes, Smiths, New Order, Mondays, Roses etc etc which we all know about. But Im interested if theres anyone listening to Autechre or people like that.

Fall are an aquired taste - sometimes they sound terrific and other times they are just annoying.

I saw The Fall in Bristol just after he been arrested in N.Y. for hitting his girlfriend. All the band had left him except for the girlfiend ,the silly moo. The gig was awful.

OMG!!!! someone else listed Duran Duran!!!!! My life!!!!!!!! those people who know me here know that i used to be really into the scene with Duran! I have been and spent the day with the guitarist in his house, and i have Simon Le Bons home phone number on my mobile! well at least other people can understand my taste in music!!!!

I love Duran Duran too, although I don't have their phone numbers :p! I also did hear they were all back together and are supposed to do a new album! I would love to see them live!

I have the wedding album too and absolutely love it!

My other favourite bands atm are Roland Orzabal / Tears For Fears, Kraftwerk, Bjork, Zoot Woman / Les Rythmes Digitales, Talk Talk, Marillion, Ladytron, And One, Human League, Kings Of Convenience, Marc Almond, Radiohead, Massive Attack, Hooverphonic and the Manic Street Preachers.

Attitude usually are along these lines... New Order = Miserable! Joy Division = Suicide Music! Duran Duran = 80's fluff with no real substance! how wrong people can be.

I remember hearing "Come Undone" on the radio when that album came out, I believe I was 13 at the time. I went out and bought the tape, before I had a CD player.

I would listen to that tape over and over until it eventually died :( I was really into side A mostly with obviously "Come Undone", "Ordinary World", "Love Voodoo" and all of the others. I couldn't get enough. I love the "Greatest" album, all of the classics. Thank You was wonderful. I love their remake of "Lay Lady Lay", the original makes me laugh so much, I believe they did justice to that song. I thought it was funny though that they did "White Lines" I didn't think I would ever hear them doing that, although their version is better than the original in my opinion.

I didn't purchase Medazzaland but I did like the song "Electric Barbarella" that was a good tune. I can't wait for their new stuff!!!

There were some pictures circulating of the three Taylor together about 3 months ago. I got them via a mailing list im on...i'll see if i can find it, or at least the link for it. There are still no pictures of the 5 of them together yet...

Yeah, they are all babes, John Taylor has faired the best, he is like a fine wine, gets better with age.....

For Europe, I love The Smiths, Cure, Cocteaus, Depeche Mode (until 1986 or so), and more recently Daft Punk.

As for Japan... YMO (the original synth-GODS!), Virgin VS (I think the keyboard mastery of Lion Merry would appeal to a lot of NO fans), but probably my favorite is The Moon Riders (though I doubt anyone else outside of Japan knows these J-Rock legends). As of 2001, a 25 year catalogue of 21 stellar albums! ;-)

Looking this over, I guess some use of electronics is a prerequisite for my list.

Finally I'm beginning to see some 'indie' in this discussion. I was way into the whole smiths/dmode/new wave thing when I was in high school and early college but now I mostly listen to more indie stuff.. bands like the flaming lips, built to spill, pavement, sleater kinney, wire, queens of the stoneage, and the international noise conspiracy. I've recently been intrigued by the whole elephant 6 thing, the dismemberment plan and british sea power and the coral (who are tough to get ahold of, especially since they dont have an album or distribution in the u.s.) Anyway, its been said before but I'm constantly reminded that new order fans tend to listen to a diverse lot of quality stuff..

Why haven't I seen more mention of XTC on this thread? They share with NO the capability to blend beautifully-crafted and haunting melodies with sarcastic and insightful lyrics. I'm surprised Barney and Mr. Partridge aren't drinking buddies!

I got into XTC about a year ago (bought Skylarking prior to Sep. 11) and I love 'em to death. I could see where they might get along (Barney and Andy Partridge) but they probably can't afford the train fare from Swindon to Manchester :D
