I'm sure that's how they'd word it in the tabloids.

I was amused by this. Can't say I'm in a hurry to hear his version mind.

From Manchester evening News

Mark Owen denies making Joy Division joke

Take That star Mark Owen has denied he made a bad taste hanging joke at the expense of the late Joy Division singer Ian Curtis during a gig last night.

During his performance at the Life Cafe Owen sang Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division and later appeared to pretend to hang himself with his tie.

The Joy Division singer Ian Curtis hanged himself at the height of the band’s success.

A spokesman for Owen said: “Mark would never mean to cause any offence. He’s a very well-liked guy.”

Do you purposely spell that naughty word that way cos you're a good girl or were you typing so aggressively that it is merely an error?

unless it's an avatar

people need to chill out

the only reason i'm offended is it seems like a bad joke...timing and delivery wise etc not the content..maybe a bit OTT

a subtle reference to a clothes line or suicide would have been hilarious

Do we have the right to make gags by extension of the knowlege that Hooky Steve and Bernard tell the best curtis gags on Earth? ian would laugh...only retarded journos and goths think he was a miserable cunt.

My favorite one is something I read in an article that came out after 24HPP that in late 80-81 someone asked Hooky and Barney where their singer was and their response was: "Hanging around in the kitchen somewhere".

It would have been much more rock and roll of him to complete the job on stage, washed up hack.

I've seen other NOOLers type it like that - it seems less offensive but you get the meaning. If it's good enough for them...

Plus, I'm a good girl :D

I, personally, do not find the word all that offensive.

Jem's from Bolton...you better explain the term "good girl" she only used it cos she heard it on TV

Best Curtis gag has to be Barney's entire routine at Hammerstein. "Ian might have died but he didn't have to live with this fookin sore foot" etc OR Hooky on No-Story KA:"who the laziest member of the band"

PH:"Ian curtis, he hasn't done anythin in about 14 years"

Personally, I do it out of habit. Our firewall at work won't let words of this ilk in or out. Our email won't even pass b1tch or ar£e. Pathetic. There's another messageboard I post on which won't accept the c word so you get variations on the theme: cuntsocks, cuntchops, cunstable, cunter, etc.

I quite like that cunstable one. I'm going to have to take that on board as a new curse.

The collective.. Cunce! has a certain charm I find.

If it's good enough for Chaucer, it's good enough for me.

Perhaps Owen was trying to emulate curtis competely, but like his solo carear, it was a complete failure.

Back to the topic in question please!

That mark owen is a fucking little squeaky short tongued lispy bastard bumboy.

How dare he take the mick out of one of the best lead singers this world has ever heard!

The only reason that the slimy little gimp is reforming and touring with take twat is cos he's got nothing better to do.He must have forgot about with smelling 12yr olds pissy knickers . He was never a "star" the first time round ,he should have stayed locked up in that farmhouse he has in rochdale or oldham whereever it is, and carried on downloading kiddie porn or having his stomach pumped on a weekend ,a la marc almond!

Fucking annoying little bastard!

I may have a broken hand but send him down here and i'll knock the little cunt straight out!

PHOTO FROM THE SUN NEWSPAPER

However, it seems the Manchester Evening News may have been a little generous with the truth and are currently recieving e-mails on the subject of sloppy journalism. Several people have contacted the paper to point out that Owen always does the "tie-jerk" during a song called 'Believe In The Boogie' to accompany the line '...how the mighty fall...' That night was no different.

So yes, he did make the gesture. But no, it wasn't during LWTUA.

THE BACKLASH IN FULL...

I couldnt agree more, and to be honest , if that little skinny gimp went the same way , would anyone care 25years on......I think not, so here's hoping!!

People, do you know how silly you all sound. Threatening to 'do' Mark Owen from Take That. What do you do for an encore, strangle a fluffy kitten?!

This from that message board:

"That is appalling. I can't believe that that it has been printed, he did that move as an action to the lyrics of one of his own songs. It wasn't during the 'Love will tear us apart' song. Mark played the song as a tribute to one of his favourite acts. The way article is phrased makes it seem like it was an obvious act of mockery and is totally insensitive. It was a one second move, amongst many that occurred a few songs after he had played love will tear us apart. It was not in reference to a song he played earlier!! This entire article defies logic and is only going to create an image that Mark was insulting one of Manchester's' heroes. Covering the song was a fine tribute not an act of bad taste."

Got to agree with all the above (except the last line, of course  )

To be fair, the article did include the word LATER - so they covered themselves for lawsuits anyway:sleep:

That quality newspaper, The Sun, have come up with the headline 'TAKE PRAT'

Couldn't have put it better myself

I dream of a world where Take That decide to hold a press conference regarding a comeback and nobody turns up, not even their mums.

Seems a bit blown out of proportion this especially if he made the gesture during a completely different song and not the LWTUA cover. I think it's hilarious the shitstorm The Sun has whipped up over this  Owen's always looked like a bit of a frail 12 year old girl to me, all fragile and that whispy voice. Like if you patted him on the back he'd shatter!

I'm only joking about going, although at work we did discuss the amount of talent there could make it worth while, but in the end we never had any intention of going or ever will

Some of us grudgeful sorts have memories that go back even further - forget Mark Owen molesting the memory of JD for a minute - anyone remember his totally execrable whiney version of Radiohead's "Creep" - retitled "Crap" obviously? Fuck me - that was so piss poor and wimpy it makes James cunting Blunt sound like Lemmy by comparison.

If he didn't deserve a thorough twatting for that then I don't know! :dead:

I know where the whiney shites parents live, any offers!! Joking by the way (about the offers, not the address!)

from an interview with mark owen in the metro 9/1/6

Q didn't you recently do a joy division cover & pretend to hang yourself like their lead singer ian curtis did?

A that was taken out of context. i did that pose in relation to to the lyrics of another song. it wasnt when i was doing a joy division cover. you always try different ways of expressing yourself. it was stupid of me to have done it, i should have known better, but they werent connected.
