Heard this at The Gap of all places. Female singer, singing about ice skating, then a male rapper joines in. Thing is, the song includes the guitar part from Temptation. Can anyone ID this?

ick, man, use different similes than monkees and dogs. rap's a valid form of art. a good rap producer can take someone else's raw music and turn it around so you'd never recognize it. take public enemy: large chunks of their first three or four albums are made up of james brown samples. some small bits you could pick out easily, but there is no mistaking whose song it is. eric b and rakim pulled the same trick, and still remained more musical and innovative than a large portion of mid-80's music.
now the puff daddy school of rap production/thievery needs to be shot dead, or at least prosecuted... but then again, so do oasis.

Actually someone said about me using tmonkey and dog similies......never crossed my mind that might ping someone for a millsecond. almost goes without saying, but every genre of music is more crap than it is good. rap is a huge, money-making, dominating force in pop culture these days. because of this, most of it is going to be crap. new artists are signed based on hype, or how well they compare to some other popular artist, ideas are recycled, cheap tricks invented and the whole genre goes downhill... oh wait, that's punk rock. you get my point. but you can't dismiss the whole genre. don't hate the game, hate individual playas who suck.
i can't remember if you're british or not, but there is a lot of interesting (if overhyped) british rap coming out. there was that "run the road" comp recently... i listen to it from time to time... also the streets "a grand don't come for free" is one of the best albums of the last few years...

go and put on a copy of de la soul's "3 feet high and rising", have a good listen, then come back and acknowledge that rap music can offer some interesting quality music. would also recommend you check out "paul's boutique" by the beastie boys.

can I just point out, that since phrases like "de la soul" and the like have been tossed around on this thread it's probably time I stopped ranting purely for comic effect and made some sense (did silence just fall over this site this very second?).

listen, there has been some truly superb rap music 9actually I think before some kind soul told me to fook off and listen DLS as proof of good rap, I had cited 2 raps off the top of my head (one black one white incidentally...tho i don't think that was in anyway intentional...and for the record...Mr C can stick to DJ-ing...tosspot wrecked one of my fave bands to the point where they literally disgusted me)).

Then adding in some police cars dogs and gunshits, a few (May whatever Gods exist forgive me for this because despite this being a "spoof" I stil thought of it) scratch ins of the ian samples....saying "always danger" and "hunting through the streets". Finally shove on a truly impressive drum track. Over this our "talented rap artiste" let's call him Pha Quit shouts "bitch, n****r steal rape kill shoot cripple drugs and don't forget muthafucka" and so on (it's NEARLY as bad as fuckin country for formulas...gee that's fans of two genres kicked in "los danglie bits" in one go...efficiency at work). The more crimes and appalling disrespect of women you can get in there the better.

Now.....do you see where I am coming from on the "sponsored by racists angle"....because the above is very often (albeit in a corporatized form.....which is another thing..."smash the rich ass man and his evil corporations cos my life in south central sucks balls: P.Quit Beverley Hills (or Notting Hill more likely)) the very style of rap music most commonly seen on MTVbass and the like....along with it's twin "shit chart R+B by Linda labia the erstwhile gangbang specialist, featuring Pha-Quit to add the 27.3% streetification the marketeer cunts had requested." other more creative rap artists do bring some style humour and skill to the table.

like most other forms of music, rap is neither totally great or totally shite..... just a case of sifting out the good stuff. also (unfortunately), like most other forms of music, it is usually the crap stuff that tends to make it onto radio and MTV.
