Er, not to be pedantic, but that was from The Perfect Kiss at the RFH? Face Up was the first song and was the usual cringer.

Best for me was TPK at De Panne Festival in August 84 "A fight breaks out upon your street, you lose another broken heart in the land of need. My friend he took his final breath, oh now I know the perfect kiss is the kiss of death." Delivery as much as the words were just great, very melancholy and not the usual throwaway.

Also think ICB has some of the best lyrics..

Isnt it "picture me and then you stop watching"? When they played Ceremony live they most often carried two verses of this and dropped the first and original one "watching her, these things she said, the times she cried, too frail to wake this time" ...which was a pity really.

That's one of my big favorites, off the top of my head. I could literally go through each song and give you a list and then have to redo it several times, because it constantly evolves. that's the thing though.

When you are depressed, there are a million bands who can strike a chord with you, come close to saying something of the troubles and pains tearing through your soul. ONLY New Order can strike a chord with you, hook you in (no pun intended), and then express the precise nature of what you feel in 2 lines...then get on with just blissing you out. Sometimes it's not even words, it's just that (not even going to TRY adjectives) bass, or those huge warm, utterly wrong string parts (RIAD, Krafty,Run Wild)...sometimes it's the way the reverb dies at the end of a track.

New Order and even more so JD, are the difference between crashing into the the black hole, and slingshotting around it and flying far and free.
