..."Behind closed doors"..."Don't do it"..."Lonesome tonight"..."1963"..."Best & marsh"...

Have you ever thought about why bands very often put some of their best work on b-sides ???

Is it because they feel free from any commercial pressure (if there is) ??? Is it a "do what you like it's only a b-side" attitude ???

Is it because they can experiment, can do things that they wouldn't normally do if there were working on an album-track or a single ???

Why "Slow Jam" instead of "Behind Closed Doors" on "Get Ready" ???

What do you think ???

Marco - NO wouldn't put 1963 on the B-side of True Faith these days, if they could see the potential of a big seller it just wouldn't happen. Back in the naive 80's they would be doing it for the love of the music and to a lesser extent the fans, but now, its money money money.

Behind Close Doors is an exception, in the fact that they really needed to put a good first CD after 8 years to get the kids excited. Saying that, I don't think BCD is a patch on 1963, Shame of the Nation, Don't do It etc. etc.

Marco, should you be making comments on a song we 'both' haven't heard yet? - not that I would doubt you breaking our pact.
