I was looking (and reading) thru feeleverybeat.co.uk and came across this section of an article.

Originally, it says it's from the April 13th, 1991 issue of Melody Maker.

http://www.feeleverybeat.co.uk/articles/melodymaker13april1991.htm

"I remember me and Ian Curtis sold one of our songs for 12 quid. Grace Jones wanted to do a cover version of ‘she’s lost control’ and she wanted to change it to ‘i’ve lost control’. we just thought we’d f***her up and say she couldn’t do the song at all. about a month later, we were in a club in London and bumped into the record company bloke who wanted to put it together. ‘So you’re not going to let us do the song, lads,’ he said. We told him absolutely not, it was art. ‘Do yuz want a drink,’ he said and we said yeah, so he wrote us a cheque for 12 quid to get drinks in all night and we let him do the song."

Hahahaha

Could be old news, but I'd thought I'd share it just in case it was new info to some here - like me.

Bernard told a slightly different version to Jack magazine in January 2003.

We were in London in a club in Soho and we were totally skint then. We'd started buying rounds at this point and it was Ian's turn and he was up at the bar talking to this dead sophisticated looking bloke. He came back from the bar with this big smile saying, "You'll never know who I've been talking to, that's The Captain from Island Records - and I've just done a great deal with him. Do you know who Grace Jones is?" And we went "Yeah." "Well, she wants to do a version of 'She's Lost Control' as 'I've Lost Control' and I've just got 40 quid for it." And he brings out this cheque, it might even have been 12 quid. We were like, "What a sucker he is, was he pissed? Wait till he wakes up in the morning. Well done, Ian lad." It was the first meney we'd had.

Said it before, and I'll say it again... Spinal Tap The Ruttles Bad News

all of them shrink in comparison to the truth about JD/NO

And a good one to help point out to all those tortured fucking goths that wander thru here now and then, that Ian was in fact, no less a buck eejit than Steve, Hooky or Bernard.

I really couldn't help making a lot of comparisons with NO & ST the last time I watched it.. which was, oh, two days ago.

Now, the real question is...

Can we expect a Stonehenge-like set on the next gig? What about the next album, an all black cover with no name and no pictures?

I really like reading interviews and recollections on the band because when I get people coming to me saying "They were doomy bluehearts*", I just want to toss a lot of really class quotes and anecdotes out of several sources and say "Ah, prove ya wrong, how's this for a laugh?"

* actual phrase used by a real moron, once.

you GOT to love them for it like.

I think maybe they thought Keith A would ride on to the stage at Glasto on a white English war charger or something...and that panto horse was actually their stonehenge.

Leanne HATES their music, apart from a few dancier tracks and one or two JD punky ones, but she'll sit with me and watch videos and laugh her tits off....then elbow me to fast forward or at least stop singing when music happens.

Does anyone remember the period when some MORON left a copy of ST on Happy Monday's tour bus? Twas on the euro tour of 88 or 89...and they basically thought it was some kind of training or instructiional video on how to tour a rock band (and, considering it was factory, it's an easy mistake to make). For months they were running around shouting "we aint playin faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaackin stonehenge" at people for no reason. About that time at least one UK music paper ran a weekly column dedicated to jokes about them, and weekly stories that were true, and much funnier.

The real culprit for the collapse of factory? whatever twat put ST on that bus serisouly
