POLL: Electronic or Monaco?

Probably been asked before (I don't know), but since there are a few new members:

Q. Which NO Side-Project Is Better ... Electronic or Monaco? (The Other Two not included)

My answer: Electronic.

Sumner and Marr for me although kill neil tennant

Close call... but Electronic

Electronic and Monaco both recorded some fine songs but my vote will got to Monaco since both their LP's are excellent and on the whole do not have a poor song on them. I also feel Monaco LP's will / are standing the test of time better than the Electronic efforts.

REVENGE !!!

For my taste, Monaco is a bit too cheesy...(especially for the lyrics)

Due to my limited exposure to both side projects, I say Electronic....:D

Im not that old of a new order fan and actually got into electronic when i was fairly new to new order. I kept hearing about it because i was also getting into the smiths at the time and i was like "bernard sumner, johnny marr, thats convenient." i think their first album, though a little dated, is really great. I will admit that i actually hadnt heard any monaco until last night when i downloaded what do you want from me. I have to say this is a really good song, im definately going to download more of their stuff.

i like both, i think. actually, i have heard all three of the electronic records, and the raise the pressure was pretty mediocre. i only heard one of the monaco records and that wasn't too bad. Over all, i think bernard sumner is a better song writer than peter hook, and having johnny marr working with you isn't too bad. so i'd have to say electronic, but they're pretty close.

Electronic just have the edge over Monaco as regards their respective début albums. But then Music For Pleasure towered over the subsequent second and third piss poor Electronic efforts. Mind you, again, Monaco's second album was also piss poor - a third-hand rewrite of the first one... so that kind of equals it out....

Ive only heard the first Monaco album and I like it a lot, the first Electronic album, while fairly dated is very good.

Twisted Tenderness is complete rubbish, apart from 2-3 songs, and i havent heard raise the pressure.

Close call but I will go Electronic, cos i need to hear monaco's 2nd album and there is more electronic material which i like as it stands now

ELECTRONIC! This is no contest, I guess it has a lot to do with Barney being in it. I love him and stuff! :p

I liked all three albums (the first one best and TT worst)

I like a few songs from Monaco but it doesn't hit the sweet spot like Electronic...

Because they sound LIKE them, they aren't as good. Its pointless to even try. At least Electronic tries to be its own thing and not rely on past success.

As I've mentioned before...

I really love this song, but there is one thing that ruins it for me. Its that noise in the drum loop that goes "bzzzzz-tink!" every few seconds. Am i the only one to be annoyed by this?

Have to agree with the major and a few others...Monaco try to hard to sound like NO, it's only ever going to sound like a poor mans version of the real thing. Thought MFP was a decent enough album, but never really got into the second album, though this wasn't helped by watching a pretty shite live performance at London Scala.

And Peter Hook really shouldn't try and sing.

Electronic are a bit inconsistent, the 2nd album was a bit cack, but I've enjoyed both TT and Electronic

I'd have to say Electronic ... Forbidden City and Late at Night are great songs ... And I like the fact that Bernard actually appears in front of the camera for the video clips ...

Nobody mentioned 'The Other Two' ... I'd probably take them over Monaco to ... Not that I don't like Monaco

I've got the first Monaco album. When I listen to it, I get tired of it after the third song. It's simply boring.

I think Electronic is much more creative. Their three albums all sound different. Even though the second one is not that good, it contains some really good songs. My fave album has to be TT, although it's overproduced (listen to it twice = guaranteed head ache). Late at night is one of my favourite tracks. The first album was very good, really refreshing at a time where the radios only played grunge music, and it's still great altough it sounds a little dated now.

overproduced = too clinical, too clean, no rough edges and lack of a 'real' sound.

for example every track on republic except regreat

Electronic. Because Barney sings and MR. Marr plays guitar.

also some of barneys best lyrics/singing have been on electronic stuff like get the message,one day,feel every beat.i'm sure the 2nd album would have hit the spot more if they hadnt took 5 years making it but it wasnt that bad,much better than m.f.p. IMO

By overproduced, I mean sounding unnatural. Most tracks on TT are overproduced in that their music is quite intricate: lots of sounds, samplings, loops, effects... are mixed together. Best examples: Haze, Make it happen.

Though Electronic has quite a few good songs, especially from the first two albums.. but I've come to realise that the reason why I love New Order is that BASS!!!!....Pottsy's vocal is alright too, I thought...

I'd say it's a tie. While Electronic has some good songs, I really expected something revolutionary from a superstar combo such as Sumner and Marr. And Monaco is a little NO rip offy but they did have some really good songs, I was surprised at the album after the two Revenge albums (if Gun World Porn can be considered an album).

That's correct - but overproduced can also, by the same token, be taken to mean simply overdone - too over- embellished with effects, studio wizardry, everything-and-the-kitchen-sink thrown in, a loud dense overbearing racket - which is what I think he was going on about ...TT really IS a bloody noisy record - a hell of a lot of hiss going on. So that can mean it's over-produced too!!

i think tt was overproduced on purpose.thats the direction marr has been heading in the last few years,away from clean pop into heavier rock territory.i've heard some healers stuff and its pretty close to the feel of haze,breakdown and prodigal son.with arthur baker also involved it was always going to be a phatter,tougher sounding record and all the better for it my opinion.

Monaco's sub-Bee Gees-quality cover of "You Should Be Dancin'" alone is enough to put Electronic over the top.
