FACs for the memories

Got a copy of the latest edition of Q magazine last week. It features a free book entitled "The greatest rock & pop miscellany ever!".

It features a two page article (pp.8-9) entitled "Fascinating FACS" and gives, "...A selection from the first 100 items in legendart label Factory Records' iconic catalogue..."

For the uninitiated these include the great, godlike, and utterly bizarre:

FAC7: Paper and envelopes; FAC8: Egg timer; FAC61: Lawsuit against Factory by Martin Hannett; FAC81: Factory 1st International Congress notepaper; FAC86: Cardboard Hacienda model kit; and, FAC99: Dental bill for Rob Gretton.

Two that I would love to get my hands on are: FAC54: Video of the Hacienda being constructed; and, FAC91: Computer game (never finished).

I can't imagine what format the computer game took - FACman perhaps?...

The book lets itself down by listing the World Cup songs of the English national team ("A load of balls" p.19) inc. WIM, and claims, "...Football may be a beautifull game, but as this crop of World Cup anthems shows, it's rarely resulted in beautiful music"

I suspect that lined alongside the Spice Girls, Ant & Dec and Magnum Brass(?!) WIM is the rarity that Q refers to. Still never realised that the Spice Bints' 1998 effort was called "How does it feel". If I remember rightly the song inc. the line, "We're gonna MAKE IT HAPPEN..." subliminal references to NO/Barney if ever I heard them.

type Factory into Google, and you should come up with the Factory site, which lists all the various numbers.

The only 'How Does It Feel?' that ever moved me was by the late lamented 'CRASS'

And the best (never used) World Cup theme was by that wonderful band, 'Colourbox' - ever heard the 'Official Colourbox World Cup Theme' (on 4AD Records) Jimmy Hill on the cover

Awesome album man! I remember standing my 2 year old cousin in front of the speakers and putting edit the dragon on. He sort of wobbled a bit (trying to follow the sound) then fell over when the insane panning started, still laugh about it to this day he's 23 now!
