it was oficially released as an Instrumental on the soundtrack for salvation

it was played live a few times with lyrics

Amsterdam 17 OF May'84 comes to mind i think they opened the show with it totally different lyrics than the barcelona gig

They played it at least 4 times (we know of 4 recordings, but there are at least 2 gigs during this period that we have no setlist record of), and each time it had some form of vocals. No consistant lyrics, usually Bernard's potty-mouth coming out with obscene rhymes like a twelve year old who's just heard somebody fart in public. All rather amusing though, as were most of the vocals that emerged on the work-in-progress songs like Face Up and Sooner Than You Think on the 84 dates, and who could forget the M1 ?

I'd like to second that. Bodily functions amuse me to no end. If they can't be produced faithfully, I'm just childish enough to recreate their splendor with wet lips pressed to a flesh. Nothing cuts the seriousness of death in a movie quite like a loud, moist fart at just the right moment of silence.

Or adding a bit of fun to your loving by farting as you dismount :love2:

Yes I agree! The juicier the better! Although I have been trained in the deadly art of SBD farts and enjoying watching peoples faces contort when they get a whiff.

Ah, flatulence - marvellous.

Anyone know where I can get the Salvation soundtrack on CD? I can't find it anywhere.

Cheers, Pash.

No good on eBay, Pash?

To the rest of you who have tried to hijack the thread, fook off. Don't do it. Consequences will be nasty.

3 replies in and veered off topic already? A new record surely.

As for Skullcrusher, you can see why they never developed it further, not exactly a standout track. I have a pretty tinny live MP3 from an unknown gig and Barney's really gunning the vocals in terms of volume but I can't make out alot of the words.

The Salvation! instrumental's pretty dull really. Hooky's bass carries the whole tune, take that away and you're left with fuzzy noise. Knocked out during their lunchtime in the studio methinks; non-essential NO. Same goes for Sputnick and Salvation! theme.

Skullcrusher to me always sounded like it started out as a Nirvana track. I always liked it, after hearing it the first time. It so stuck out as a "different direction" track, that I was entranced by it.

I don't think the Salvation theme is all that bad. Sputnik is a throwaway and Skullcrusher is ok. My 2 year old son likes the Salvation theme...he starts dancing when it comes on in a slow-motion type of way...pretty funny.

To continue the fart conversation...he also says "scuse me" after ripping one. :baby:b

Here's one, a bit pricy though.

Bought mine in a second hand store, and I still hunt for the super rare japanese edition with an exclusive remix of Touched by the Hand of God.. this one goes pretty high on eBay when found.

Does the Canadian CD have the special version of 'Touched By The Hand of God' on it? I have it (with the Saville sleeve) and I seem to remember there is, like, a 5-minute version on there.

Help a brother out. :)

Nope, only the German and the Japanese versions have the full 12" mix of Touched.

That's the video, though, Nic - crap film, btw... :)

I'm also from the "I don't think Skullcrusher is actually much cop" school of opinion.

The instrumental is a bit aimless - and badly mixed for starters.

The title sounds like it could have had the potential to be a really aggressive song with lyrics like those on "Sunrise" - perhaps if they really DID record a song called "Skullcrusher" instead of "Subculture" [which it almost rhymes with funnily enough] for Low Life we might have been onto something.

Maybe the "Salvation! OST" version would have been livened up if Barney really DID let rip a few farts on the recording somewhere (a bit like the way he clears his throat on "Lonesome Tonight") seeing as the other topic of converstaion here seems to be obsessing over unsavoury bodily functions. ;)

They did record it for Low Life, but it wasn't to their liking. They also recorded Let's Go, with different vocals to the one that eventually emerged, but that wasn't up to scratch either. In the end they decided to stick an edited Perfect Kiss on instead.

Interesting that mr Monkey!

I suppose now that you mention it, TPK wasn't intended for the album but as another standalone NO single perhaps? That would have made more sense cos then it would have stood a better bloody chance of charting higher. At that time NO singles taken from albums did spectacularly poorly (TPK, SubCulture and BLT). I wonder what made them go one further and then pull off the even bigger judgemental error of releasing SubCulture as a remixed single as well? That has to be one of the biggest NO farragos in history.

The bass and drum parts for Skullcrusher had some potential. Agree with the consensus that its a bit mediocre on the Salvation soundtrack.

Let's Go on the other hand really should have been on Low-Life. I'm starting to lose hope that the band might go back and polish up the 85 vocal demo and tack it on to their next album. ;)
