Jam and Spoon DJ dies at age 39
Spoon was part of the 'Jam & Spoon' DJ team responsible for the Manuela and (I think) Andrea mixes of Blue Monday-95 and a big name on the German dance scene.
I never really thought that much of their BM-95 mixes but they did a great remix of Pet Shop Boy's "Young Offender". I think PSB liked it so much they adopted it as their live version; quality mix.
Sad, 39's no age at all.
OMG! This is shocking. I have never heard of BM-95, but I did hear Jam&Spoon's "Find me." How sad.

they, he, was responsible for the most seminal trance track ever produced, released... age of love (watch out for stella mix) by age of love. and thier other tracks "follow me", "right in the night" , "stella" and "odyssey to anyoona" are classic tunes as well, very ahead of their time.

maybe its a coincidence but i had jam & spoon's remix of psb's "yesterday when i was mad" ringing in my head all week... quality stuff, bar none. they were the originators of the euphoric trance stuff back in 93 with age of love. even danny tenaglia played it at this year's "black and blue" in montreal... timeless.
Yeah, I heard thison trance.nu a few days ago. It's horrible. I grew up in the scene playing the tracks mysilentface mentioned above - Nick Warren (one-half of Way Out West) counts 'Odyssey to Anyoona' among his all-time favorite tracks and has closed many a set with it.
Their rise to fame after their groundbreaking record 'Tripomatic Fairytales 2001' (which should be in every EDM-lovers CD rack) resulted in an assload of commissions for remixes.
I always liked the two Jam & Spoon remixes for 'Blue Monday 95' - the Andrea Mix always reminded me of some slow song by The Police and the Manuela Mix was full-on madness, one of my faves of 1995. Also included in that Best of 1995 is their version of Pet Shop Boys' 'Yesterday When I Was Mad' which wasn't released in the US until 11/94 (discogs.com has the release date wrong) and I played those mixes ALL YEAR.
The consensus from the European community is that Mark was a bit out of shape and was a fervent party-guy. Whether he had a history of heart trouble is unknown but serves as a warning to me, that's for sure.
Mark Spoon as well as the band will be SADLY missed.
oh no... that sucks. I always liked jam & spoon's mixes, particularly their mix of Moby's Go. That sucks.
My God, that's terrible! I loved Right In The Night and their mix of Age Of Love. This seriously sucks. RIP Mark.
Jam & Spoon were quite popular as dance music makers in the mid-90s. I think there was a girl who contributed her vocals to their music, named Plavka, if I'm not mistaken. I was surprised to see that they did a remix for BM. 
You already knew what to expect. Typically Jam & Spoon sequencers, etc... :)

Yeah, it was Plavka. She also worked with The Shamen. Jam & Spoon were big news back in the day. And Age of Love is a bona fide club classic. The Dr. Alban bit was news to me though. We'll forgive him that. RIP
It's almost like loosing someone you know when their music means something to you. For me it wasn't their remixes but their own stuff that was special.
Speaking of Blue Monday, I see there's a sort of official page for BM on this site. It doesn't seem to mention the 808 State "Acid House" mixes that came out in 2005 on 12" for the first time (previoulsy unreleased I beleive). I would think they would count as "official" mixes by now...
If he was the 'larger' of the two, then he did have a reputation as an olympian standard caner. That, combined with his physical state, would have had been the defining factor in his death.
I quite liked them, Stella, Odyssey to Anyoona (lovely, lovely tune), their mix of Age of Love, and the first Storm track were all blinders.

i had read in mixmag years ago that whenever, ifever jam & spoon would commission interviews, they would show up with a bowl of drugs and several bottles of jagger and a supposed entourage of pretty ladies. and that was for starters. although those mags tended to over-exagerate the truth. like MTO said ever so subtlely, his death could be a warning sign. whether his heart failed due to his party favours is probably left better unsaid.

Tragic news... I was a big fan of Jam & Spoon (Storm, etc...) Tripomatic Fairytales 2001 is one of the finest trance albums ever made. :(
