PLus the fact he wrote most of those lyrics at the time of Technique, as evidenced by the contents of that Mac won by Jonny Lucas in that competition.

What direction? The song had a distinct Chemical Brothers flavour because it was produced by them. I'm sure you would be pleased had they replaced Steve with the Brothers, aye?

Someone did suggest a while ago that a chemical would have been a better replacement for Gillian than Phil. I think both would have been good. I've grown to like the Phil-in, and he's a good guitarist. Trouble is,Gillian was a machine maiden too, now that's been more or less taken over by playback. I think it would have been doubly good since the Chemicals are quite undoubtedly sons of New Order.

Agreed on HtS being a really quality track. It makes my heart pulse a little bit faster every time I hear it. Still gives me chills, too.
It's always there in interviews how Bernard says his lyrics don't mean much, but I always got the feeling these were pretty personal lyrics.

Chemical Brothers. Top lads and honorary Vikings to boot. I'm still not sure about HTS though. Too generic for me. Was the anthem to one of the first NOOL get-togethers in Dry Bar many a moon ago though (well, nigh on 4 years ago - long enough) with Muffy handing out CDRs chocka-full of HTS mixes.

I remember hearing HTS strike up as the credits rolled at the end of 24HPP in the cinema. WOW! Top tune, great setting.
The Chemicals are their own band though. Their NO collaboration was fruitful - maybe there'll be an occasion where they get together again - who knows?
