world in motion original promo mixes

Anyone know where anyone who may have the original promo mixes of world in motion. The subbuteo mix & the others were all originally much much longer when promod before being severely edited once officially released.

Would love to have them !!

Erm Dont try ebay,i've been after a copy of the promo fpr the last 6 years. The last one on ebay went for £200+ !

Thanks for that !! I remember the late James Wright at the sadly defunct Record Mirror bemoaning the fact that the mixes had been cut.

how much time was circumsized from the mixes, and does anyone know why?

for such a huge song for new order (albeit one of their lamest, a pure embarassment, and 'yes, i can probably write a better song than that') you would think it would have had a full release. did it have anything to do with the UK chart rules? i know there was/is a 20min maximum on cdsingles in order to chart, but was their ever a time restriction on vinyl singles?

would have loved to hear the caribinieri mix in its entirety, the only listenable version next to the b-side version.

Look for the Canadian CD single. It has these 6 tracks:

I have it, too. I don't think I need much more "extended" versions of these mixes :D

There should have a quirky dub of this instead of the mediocre Subbuteo mix. I was surprised because most of the other Park and Pickering mixes I had heard were awesome. Namely the one they did for Pineapple face.

The original mixes were all 10 mins or longer. They were severely 'edited' !!

were these mixes on the promo 12"? I have a white label of WIM somewhere, can't remember whats on it.

Don't know about any 10min versions? All the catalogued white label 12"s and the Remixes in Motion end well before that length.

Oddly, the regular 12" released in places like Australia had edits that mirrored the UK white label.

i think i can live without those extended mixes. i have enough mixes of that particular song. best ever football song that it may be.

the more i think about it, these mixes (as they stand) would be even more boring if they were longer. usually edits are comprised of all the best bits mashed up and spewn out for commerical use. its hard to believe that those mixes would once have possessed a structure that would maintain someone's interest for 10 minutes (give or take) on a dancefloor, or otherwise.

As far as I know, the longest mixes are all on the Canadian CD single. Don't know of any promo with loger versions.

I know that the Canadian and US CD Singles both have 4:30 and 4:48 versions of 'World In Motion' and 'The B-Side' respectively, while the UK and AU 12"s have 5:32 and 5:51 versions of these two songs.

Are they actually a minute longer on these formats???

I bought the UK 12" about 10 years ago and may have listened to it twice, but it never occurred to me until I looked on Sultan's website this morning after reading this thread.

When I get off work in a couple of hours I'm going home to listen to them.

Can anybody else back me up on this???

Mis-timings. I'd wager either it's remixes on that 12", or it's the regular World In Motion and B-side versions.

I think what is causing this confusion is the existence of a promo CD entitled 'The Unabridged Dance Tracks'. The running times of these are the same as the Canadian CD single, however.

The "No Alla Violenza Mix" exists as 5:19, 5:40, and 4:12 versions, "Subbuteo Dub" as 5:08 and 4:13, and "The B-Side" as 4:48 and 4:14. This is all due to the running time resrictions on 12" and CD singles at the time of the singles release in the UK. All other remixes exist in one version each.

The New Order discography at http://www.niagara.edu/neworder/singles/wim.html has all the correct timings - apart from incorrectly listing the 12" version of 'The B-Side' as 5:51.

Worth remembering that the UK 7" and 12" both featured exactly the same versions of the tracks, 4:27 and 4:48 respectively.

No record of an Australian 12" with longer mixes of the same two tracks, however. I'm sure no such mixes exist.

The point being raised about the Australian 12" was based on timings listed at T's Discography. Having just timed my copy, I can confirm that these listings are incorrect and that the B-Side mix is the same as the UK version. It probably goes for the other international versions listed there also.

Interestingly though, having flipped through my vinyl pressings of WIM I've just discovered an Australian white label promo of the WIM Remixes NOT listed on the discography. It appears to have the four tracks of the commercial UK FAC293R 12" and in the same order, which makes it a unique white label as far as I can see. DMX catalogue number.
